    Lethal Weapon, Under Siege, Silver Bullet, & The Firm were all great films thanks to Gary. However, he took Point Break to another level. Every time I eat a meatball sandwich I want a lemonade now.

    This guy is very inspiring, he's proof that decades of drugs, massive and repeated head trauma, and severe mental issues are no impediment to success if you just don't give a shite, and that appeals to me for some reason.

    I had the honor of being one of the Point Break skydivers but the most surreal memory was that I taught first jump course to Gary Busey (as well as Patrick Swayze) and the six hours one on one in a classroom and practice gear was incredible. You could not help but love this guy but the defining term was "intense". As an avid motorcycle vagabond I wish now I could take a trip with him but I will always cherish that memory.

    • @ActualGiles
      @ActualGiles Рік тому +9

      That's awesome. I was curious why the producers would send Busey to jump school when his character never leaves the ground in Point Break.. just read an interview with him where he tells how he promised Swayze at the wrap party that he'd try it. He even mentions the 6 hours you worked with him. You know, you're almost certainly a contributing factor in his taking that role in Drop Zone soon after!

    Most people think Busey's "crazy", but he really is a fantastic human being, and no one can say otherwise. He doesn't pretend to be perfect, he's just himself, and that's why people love him. The Celebrity Big Brother season he did is an underrated testament to that. Contestants are voted off of that show by the general public. Gary Busey went to a foreign country with his "craziness" on display, to compete with a bunch of much younger people, and the British public voted him as the best person on the show. He literally won the hearts and minds of the British public, and he's the only American to ever have won in that show.

    Due to my position in the production, I was able to meet and befriend Gary...and I can tell you in all honesty...the 'stories' about him hardly do reality justice.

    It's tragic what's happened to him but his ability to rise above that and continue doing what he loves is really inspirational.

      I agree. But his next great performance isn’t up to him so much as it is the director of the movie he appears in. Gifted actors IRL can be hamstrung by a director who decides to go with the wrong take. Stacey Keach and Jake Busey (ironically), are two who’ve suffered through this. Keach is a acting veteran who you’d think completely immune to such a thing but technical experience is not much of a match against an exacting, instructional director. That’s why Clint Eastwood, when directing, will only ask for his actors to ‘do it a little different’ and will only instruct an actor upon request. It works. I’ve never seen a badly directed movie of his.
