My Iron Lung might just be one of my top Radiohead song, purely because of the line "This is our new song, just like the last one, a total waste of time, my iron lung" Like Thom just takes away all the metaphor and symbolism and said right to our face that he hates creep
@@Krysiss It's pretentious to hate Creep. If you are a songwriter you can appreciate the songwriting genius of that song. Although the climax of the song is mainly lifted from the verse in the "Air That I Breath" by the Hollies (in Creep "She's running out again..") "Creep" still has its own life. Even though the chord structure are almost the same as the Hollies song and like priorly mentioned the middle 8 vocals in Creep has almost the same melody as in "the Air that I Breath" But the verse and the Chorus in Creep" is completely original, and masterfully written - Thom didn't hate the song because of the songwriting. He hated it because of what it brought, and how the label was pressuring them to come up with another Creep. Just like "Smells Like Teen Spirit" with Nirvana. Kurt didn't hate the song before the fame, then he wouldn't had put the song on the album. the same applies with "Creep"
i swear everything single track on the bends is just., (haha) from planet telex, the bends, high & dry, fake plastic trees (best song), bones, (nice dream), just, my iron lung, bullet proof… i wish i was, black star, sulk, and street spirit (fade out)…
wow... I've listen to the bends album many times and still get mind-blown when learning more about the songs lyrical meanings and messages. Super entertaining and informative!
I really love High and Dry specifically because of how simple it sounds but the meaning hits very close to home for me. I'm in some serious burnout because I've pushed so damn hard and I did lose it
I thought that bones was about an old man talking about aging and the pain of being old. I interpreted the line where he talks about how he used to be peter pan as a metaphor of how he used to be so young and energetic. I also connected it to peter pan being a symbol of youth.
The song The Bends was written back before Pablo Honey came out. It was originally called The Benz. Knowing this, we can't really say it was written about life after skyrocketing fame. I do love this album. I listen to it when I need that "90's" sound. I love how young Thom's voice is.
@Krysiss and they may have some. I feel like I read they had even played it live before they released Pablo Honey. I'm sure some RH fan knows more about it than I do.
Kudos for the subtitles. I personally don’t have any trouble understanding you at all- but I’m a native speaker of English. I have lots of friends who are ESL speakers though and they often complain they have trouble understanding even perfect English sometimes depending on if it’s in a foreign accent though, so they’d super appreciate the extra time you took to transcribe the script for this video
I hate when people compare Radiohead albums for no reason because they have completely different messages and sounds. That's why I wanna make this a series so there's a bigger discussion than just "this album good, this album bad"
Perhaps it's a trivial thing to comment about, but I really enjoyed the way you read that comment during your explanation of Black Star. I laughed really hard when I heard that.
I always thought interpreting My iron lung as being just about Creep quite limiting. For me it's about modern life in general and about how we all go about our day despite feeling something is way off about the world around us
i love sulk, it’s my favorite off the album. i don’t think the bends gets enough attention- it’s not my favorite radiohead album but it’s got some of my all time favorite songs on it.
This is the best video I’ve watch on the bends I think so many people gloss over it because they want to get to ok computer,kid-A in rainbows ect. But this is arguably a top 3 in there discography and Its truly a alt rock utopia album
Street Spirit live in japan is the greatest performance by Radiohead ever in my opinion and song of all time. My goodness that noise is 10x better than the album version. Awesome video I really enjoyed watching my favorite albums breakdown.

I'll be taking a quick break from UA-cam because I'll be moving countries soon but when I'm back I'll definitely talk more about Radiohead because I love them.
I don’t care what anyone says, as a radiohead fan whom has listened to most of their albums, High and Dry is one of their best songs and the Bends is their best album, just a little bit above in rainbows and okc. The more guitar driven and emotional vibes of okc and the Bends is really missing in their later albums aside from in rainbows
Really interesting take on "Just" I've always assumed the ending was meant to represent how depression keeps you down; when telling other they become sad as well Great video and a new sub from me!
Agree Mr Krysis. I love Radiohead and The Bends is a historic piece of work. However, Pablo Honey is a very hard listen. After that the only way was up. Until Kid A...

If you're going to interpret what ThM's song expresses, I suggest you use a more time-accurate footage, preferably near the time the song/album was released. The footage from the 2000s Planet Telex concert while the song is made around a decade ago would be less applicable as proof of your interpretation. However, the whole album tracks interpretation is good.
