- GoPro9 footage of the electric Dodge Charger driven around the grandstand at The Strip dragstrip, Las Vegas, during Dodge Speed Week on Mar 20, '23. The driver demoed the ICE-ish "revving" sound and it was as lame as you probably expect. I liked the faked "burbling" sound. Since EVs are so quiet, I bet the burbling would help prevent kids from being run down since the electric Charger is not stealthy by a long shot.
Making an EV sound like an ICE is like the vegan that makes "steak" out of vegetables.

@@artillerybuff2000 I would think it would be programmable. I also think there would be aftermarket sound libraries to choose from. Hopefully we will get a better understanding if this car is EV only, ICE, or Hybrid. There is talk of Hybrid with the V6 dual Turbo engine with electric front drive, that may be a nice package. I’m just patiently waiting to see what and when the car is available for purchase. Fingers crossed they release it in B5 blue. Although the car looks great in the metallic red.

@Josh Dahmen I definitely want one, but I am not a muscle car enthusiast, to be honest. So, my perspective may be biased in regards to just appreciating the car. Josh, I'm afraid the final production won't be anything like this. I was happy with the preproduction Ram Rev before they changed it.

Yes. Currently but the centralized nature of power generation is cleaner than many individual engines (that rarely see service if we're honest) AND the world is and can move to cleaner renewable sources.
Add in the fact Electric will be more reliable, MUCH faster (Super cars aren't going electric for climate reasons. Electric is Literally the only way forward if performance is going to continue to grow), and ALREADY provide longer ranges than standard ICE engines.

The design is outstanding. Not a bad line on it, and a spectacular update of the present Charger ( which I own ). If that car had a Hellcat engine Dodge wouldn't know how to keep up to the demand for it. Considering how awful the latest offerings from BMW and others look this car is amazing.

I still think it's silly to contrive an engine sound on an EV to mimic a combustion engine (can you imagine an electric stove being given LED "flames" to resemble a gas one?) but I'd still take this over the infernal "ohhhhhhh" choir piped in on many of today's EVs.

In addition to being safer, better for the environment, and in many places cheaper, electric stoves also far outperform gas ones in most cases. You can hear it from Consumer Reports if you don't believe me. Same applies to electric vs gas cars; it's an objective technological improvement that some people choose to just ignore because nostalgia.

The body is fantastic. But that's it. Hybrid was the next logical step for SRT. Synthetic fuel, etc. Electric is the future - the far future. Infrastructure alone to power all EV vehicles is 30 years, minimum.

@ShawnLamont1997 I hear you. But sadly, even though the Mustang is keeping its V8 longer than Camaro, Charger, Challenger, it's also supposed to lose it soon, from what I read. Its all sad. 1 day they will admit, (they know now that EVs are actually worse for environment), they should have hept the ICE around longer. Vehicles Will be faster, quicker, more powerful, but will have NO SOUL, and the home mechanic will need and engineering degree just to work on them and keep the Flux capacitor within optimal parameters. I will keep my 2004 Jeep WJ for as long as I can. I can fix half of what is on and in it. And I won't electrocute me while working on it.

Imho I think eventually the hellcat we have now will evolve in to a much higher priced machine and they will continue building them in lower quantities, seems to be the route ever other company is going right now.
This can really do good for all the EV enthusiasts. I really like the car and the sound is better then it was before for sure. And there is many reasons why they are getting rid of the hemi. 1. They were selling them for years 2. Stellantis ruined the hemis unfortunately
The Hemi V8s wouldn't pass the emission restrictions that will be put into effect in 2024, I think. Ford on the other hand has the 5.0 V8 and has already passed the emissions for next year. Regardless, I will still be buying the new Charger EV in the future.

Not actually a speaker but an air tube system which sucks and blows air to make that acoustic sound.

I'm not really a Dodge guy, but at least they're trying to do something unique with the sound signature. Most EVs will be humming or silent. I think it's cool that this car has a mechanically produced sound.

The car’s back bumper looks like that of a Lamborghini Estoque and Dodge Charger (2019), the front tries to pay homage to the first iteration of the car. Overall the sound is controversial because some of us think that it is a speaker, but they are at least trying to save the world by lowering their emissions, similar to Beamers, Teslas, Porsche and Ford. Respect my opinion guys.

It sounds more like an artificial car sound generated by a speaker rather than the genuine sound of a powerful engine. In my professional opinion, this sound is not authentic and lacks the desired quality.

I wonder how terrible this car must be that there currently isn't a video of the thing actually driving on a road. Great you can take it for a walk at 3mph. 2024 is a few weeks away and clearly this car isn't ready. There are cameras everywhere and no footage of a Dodge full EV actually driving.

That fake ICE engine noise is one of the most contrived things I think that Dodge has ever produced.
So, how much electrical power does it take to produce that sound? I hope the sound is optional, that it can be turned off. My generation will care about it sounding like a very powerful gasoline engine, later generations will come to expect quiet power. It really is what you are raised to expect.
You missed the money shot by not showing the front of this car. Anyhow if this car had the hemi engine I would be at the dealer when it was being unloaded from the truck to buy it. The lines are beautiful and sleek! But electric power well that doesn't excite me that much.
If indeed the Banshee can whip my Charger Hellcat or the Redeye Jailbreak I put off ordering to wait for the Banshee, then I made the right decision.
