@@gordendavis3585 meh..Star Wars tech has sidearms that fire death rays, except the bolts fired from these ray guns are so slow that most people can dodge them easily, even casually. Also, they seem to have an internal program that makes them hit nowhere near where they are aimed. Come on, how advanced can Star Wars tech be if their weapons are less useful than a gun-powder revolver? Also, they build moon-sized, planet destroying space stations, and they they put some kind of weird ignition point right near the surface, where one stray bolt of energy hits it, and..kaboom! the entire death star blows up. Star Trek tech was designed for adult audiences. The science is not real, but always plausible. Star Wars tech was aimed at guys the age of Annakin when we first meet him. Impressive as hell if you're about 6, but stupid to think about as an adult.

The Defiant class wasn't the only warship, just the only warship pre-Dominion War, During and after the Dominion War there were many warships designed and produced. Some examples are: Akira class, Sovereign class, Prometheus Class, and more. The Prometheus class was so powerful that in a Voyager episode (I don't remember which one) the Romulans captured it while it was on a testing cruise. It had a skeleton crew, otherwise they couldn't have captured it, but if the Romulans, who had very powerful warships anyway, wanted it's tech and firepower, then they know it was powerful. In order to capture and escort it back to Romulan space, they sent three D'deridex class warships, which are powerful enough to 1v1 a Galaxy class, and made Picard try and avoid confrontation at all costs with them in Next Generation (mostly). To recapture the Prometheus, Starfleet sent two Defiant class vessels and one Akira. Keep in mind that this is in the middle of the Dominion war, so Starfleet wouldn't send three of their most powerful ships to take it back unless it were important and very dangerous. One thing that made the Prometheus so powerful was that it had state of the art torpedoes, phasers, shielding, and could split itself into 3 pieces that could work together and each had significant firepower on their own. They were each basically a mini deployable warship. Sorry about the rambling, but I'm just trying to prove that Starfleet had more than one kind of warship.

Yeah, for a couple months the Pacific fleet was down to just one carrier, the Enterprise after losing 4 carriers (Lexington, Yorktown, Wasp and Hornet) and the USS Langley (kind of a carrier) in the first 11 months of the war. I think the Essex entered the Pacific in January or February of 1943. So at the beginning of 1943 it was just the Grey Ghost. But by August of 1945 there were 97 carriers in the Pacific fleet if you count the escort and light carriers. And that doesn't include the Brits or the Australians who had a sizable fleet of carriers as well!
20 of the US carriers were fleet carriers and 77 were light or escort carriers. The US had 725 destroyers... Amazing!

David Gorden TOS(and TAS, Enterprise) used the simple 1 interval in 10 times faster like the Richter scale does for power in Earthquakes. At some between then and TNG (possibly the invention of the Transwarp drive), it was changed to 10 in Transwarp Velocity, AKA everywhere at once, which meant they were using faster intervals as well.

So true. I love Star Wars for the lore and whole "galactic civil war" plot, but I loved Star Trek first and will always love it just a bit more. The serie's plot is further explained because it is a show lasting for years, character's development is apparent rather than just mysteriously thrown at you through the new movie (like star wars), and the technology is explainable through present day theory. The only thing that I dont like is the serious lack of realistic violence and how it portrays everything as being jolly when in reality things like the holocaust the Cardassians bring about in DS9 would be very dark and subversive.

Steve Bergman 😁 Some are, but plenty are genuinely very young. I will watch some of the SW films but they appeal more to my inner child too! Trek appeals to me more as an adult. There are aspects of both which annoy me, but for characterisation, plot & concept Trek wins hands down. Except DS9, but let's not talk about DS9.

seeing as space opera which star wars falls under is a sub genra of scifi and all scifi falls under fantasy the whole its not real scifi thing rings kind of hollow particularly given they kind of asinine bullshit trek passes off as science. sure star wars writers know jack shit about science but they dont pretend to as opposed to trek which is full of nonsensical science sounding buzzwords in technobabble explanations that would make anyone with even a high school science course roll there eyes at the misuse of the terms. which is worse to tell the story you want and not bother with explaining the tech or bogging down the story with a butchered bastardization of science terms tossed in randomly to try and sound smart? star trek is at its best when its a character driven show exploring themes of humanity, philosophy and exploration not when its misusing science words to sound smart. oh and if you want to act superior about liking real scifi try reading some actual hard scifi and not pushing trek as being scientific.

If someone asked me...... Jeffro, what federation ship would you most desire for your own personal craft to visit the stars in? Well...hands down it'd be the 2nd Defiant. You know...the one that was a newer, more powerful and updated version of the Defiant originally named the USS Sao Paulo (NCC-75633), but later renamed Defiant. However I would update the crew quarters and add a holodeck. In the DS9 episode "Defiant", the character Gul Dukat describes the first ship as "one of the most heavily armed warships in the Quadrant", so the second updated version would surely be even more powerful. Classed by Starfleet as a Warship instead of a Starship, it was NOT a Winnebago like the Enterprises, but even tho it isn't as luxurious as the other, it is an extremely well armed and fast weapon that could whip damn near any foe it encounters. According to Wikipedia it has pulsed-phaser cannons and quantum torpedoes, in addition to photon torpedoes, standard phasers and a high-capacity deflector shield system as well as a Romulan cloaking device. Another asset is its ablative armor, enabling the ship to sustain multiple hits from enemy weapons, even with the shields inoperable, with minimal damage. The warp drive was rated for a maximum output of warp factor 9.982 for 12 hours, and it was one of very few Federation ships that had landing gear that enabled it to land on a planet's surface. The ship's size is around 170 meters in length, which makes it roughly the size of a full-sized NFL stadium in length and width. Lastly, the nose section could separate from the main hull and act as a large shuttle craft, and it's unique shields enabled it to easily change it's livery. Yeah, that's my space ship ride of choice.

Ah the memory triggers. 0:42 I was, still am big Sci Fi fan, skipped kindergarten and 2 grades, so I was always the youngest smallest in a small-town school system. Even the girl’s bullied me. I was in the same grade as my older brother by 3 years in high school, which meant he pretty much didn’t want to know me, until one day this kid twice my size punched me in the back of the head for no reason. My brother who was a hockey fan told me to grab his shirt, pull it over his head, and apply the knees. Which I did until he stopped moving, just dangled there sobbing, it took my brother and two of his friends to pull me off. They suspended me; the bully required surgery to rebuild his nose. Funny thing, no one bothered me after that. 😁😁👍👍
