Michele Etienne Porphyria's lover is a poem by Robert Browning, it is a dramatic monologue from the viewpoint of the man, he remains anonymous. You can draw various conclusions from the poem on what it is about because a lot is left vague so it is up for your own interpretation. The man is a psychopath which explains why he kills her, and the view I take on the poem is that Porphyria had ties elsewhere, perhaps to a man, as I perceive her clothing as a sign of being upper class and the fact she has traveled through the bad weather from a "gay feast" suggests engagements elsewhere. The man is clearly possessive and controlling and doesn't like this. He knows that she loves him as the poem says when he is saying she is all his. He feels by killing her she is then freed from these other engagements forever and he has given her what she really wants; to be with him (he doesn't see the fact she is dead as a bad thing because he is a psychopath). The ending could suggest that he feels what he has done is justified as God hasn't punished him or that he believes himself to be more powerful than God.
This is just a brief overview of my interpretations of the poem :)

excellent adaptation though. A powerful contemporary slant on Brownings classic tale of abnormal psychology. 5 Stars.

@Chelle22208 It could be a few things. One is the disease making a man hallucinate.
Here's the second. Browning wrote about the dark parts of humanity (like Poe) so it could be that the persona jealously wanted porphyria so after she confessed her love to him(reluctantly) he killed her so she would never say she loved another and so he would have her forever

Well, i didn't get that feeling what i got after reading it from books. U made it without any sense. And remember that it is a dramatic monologue not ur soliloquy

Awful reading in my opinion. Over theatrical and with a nasty supercilious flavour. Anyway, the poem gains nothing from being acted out, and they cannot even spell it correctly on the title card.
