Don't let the comments below spoil this for your, if you are watching. This is a great version of the play. Sad the complete absence of education or appreciation. That's what happens when anyone in the world can have and give an "opinion."
My art appreciation teacher who is a play write literally said before you watch this this is the most shit play i will have you watch if you survive it and the review you'll ace my class
Fabulous BBC staging, followed by the even more brilliant Antigone. The symbolism of the costuming and setting and subtlety of the ironies-just superior. The chorus-so formal,so stunning. Thank goodness for the BBC.
@troubles47 if that cape is a blanket for a motel room then it must be from the classiest 5 star motel that caters only to those with immense wealth, like our good king here
what i am saying is that the play needs to be modernized for 21rst century. after all if the king is going to be in a tux he may as well be speaking like a modern man.
@nibblesxsips I know exactly what you mean! I felt that way about Gilgamesh. =/ I'm double majoring in English and Drama. This semester, I'm taking a world lit class and a drama class with emphasis on classic text. A few of the assignments coincide and it's really fun to analyze the text in world lit, then bring it to life in drama.
Did a project on Oedipus, fell asleep while researching...watched this and still fell asleep at this part. I though Oedipus was about a king who murdered his father and married his mother, not a bunch of MODERN-dressed priests shouting poetry for 10 minutes =/
the reason why oedipus is boring is because of the everlasting monologing. If they were to seak in a more efficient less pretentious manner this play would be over in 20 pages not 57
This isn't the best version, honestly. I don't think the chorus would have all spoken at once. In my opinion, the chorus in the actual written play all spoke individually, but were all labeled as Chorus.
the first part has 120k views and this one is 37k looks like a lot of people gave up on the assignment ... lol

aww i was hoping their clothes to be in the same era as the play... :(
i love the oedipus actor!!!!!!
I really feel that their clothes don't fit the time of the tragedy
That suit is suave.
this version is better than original. actors were brilliant!!!
oh the irony. He is but a mere villain in the shape of a hero.
everyone is complaining about the clothes like its a bad thing but i mean come! look at the King's badass cape!
Times like these are when I begin to question why I became an English major.

The thoughts of 400 BC reverberate.
I sure hope I can remember this crap for my test WOW! I'm not at all interested in this SH..........

5:50 I want his voice.
Can someone please explain to me what the ending for this clip was all about? :/ I don't understand what they're shouting about.
Im only here because of school
He looks like a player, his suit reminds me of Michael Jackson in Smooth Criminal. Not in a bad way of course.

Was this written during the suffering of the Peleponisian war in Athens?
Anyone else here for school ?
It was written 2500 years ago. Learn to identify with a foreign culture. Requires imagination.
@uppityox Reading it is so much better...

@tbaby673 my professor lied too.
What is this bullshit, where the fuck is Tiresias?
