I'm dutch and 180cm (5'11), but sometimes when i walk on the street i feel short. Especially dutch students are tall for some reason. It's like every generation adds another 10cm.
I'm 178(5'10) and I'm average in my country. But when I visited the Netherlands.... I felt like a hobbit lol Many many people with +190cm and I even found a few of 2 meters tall! It was insane. Here is very rare to find someone +195cm. But really, it seemed like in another world. The world of giants. But I don't regret it tho. I'll surely come back again. Great country.

Of course, it depends on the country you live in, I'm 1.63m (5'4") and I've been told that I'm short by foreign people when in my country (France) I'm average, or even considered as tall by some.

It all depends on the generation a lot as well, i remember studying at uni and an old lady who was working there told her workmate something like "hey, look at these guys! The new generation is tall" She looked like a 150 something, so typically the newer the generation the taller the people

Typically, yes. Although that difference can and does diminish over time. People are simply reaching their full genetic potential with better nutrition and lifestyle, not necessarily evolving to be 'taller'. So it's phenotypical not genetic. Future generations are unlikely to be taller in developed countries

Every time I look at statistics related to average height, I realize that it is simply a difference in latitude, regardless of racial superiority or inferiority.
I remember travelling to Philippines. Despite being typical height of 6'0" / 183cm, I found myself often being the tallest person around. I was even at a party surrounded by male models, and I was like the giant in the room. Then I went to the Netherlands, and it was the complete reverse. Practically everyone towered over me. I even had to stand on tip toes to be able to use the urinal. I swear the real average height there must be at least 6'4". It was like Gulliver's Travels for real.
As an indonesian, this is hit right in the core because I am above average, most of the people here are around 167cm to 171cm and the last time I check my height a couple of years ago is around 178.5 and maybe I am already taller than that right now. But being a tall person here is almost a pain in the ass, because If you have a height that is above average then you need to be ready for some pain in almost your everyday life, like almost bumping your head to almost anything, small size clothes everywhere and you need to pay more for custom made shoes that are fit for your size, every meal feels like a snack, tiny seat every time you take public transportation because your size taking up a lot of space, and most of the time people will seeing you as older than you are which can be a pain sometimes, damn I wish I was shorter.

So at 6'1", you'd be taller than like 99% of them 😭 Even to men, you're still 2 inches taller than average, you should still feel "sort of tall" or depending on insecurities, feel average or below (even though you are simply not). Even a 3 inch difference is something. Think about the average man and women in North America, it is a 5 inch difference and it feels quite big right? I mean most countries have that same gap between men and women, some even more (or less) so we should all know the difference. So anwyay, even half that would still feel something, which is 2.5 inches. So even a 3 inch difference is kind of a bit. You can definitely feel a 3+ inch difference. So a 7 inch difference between the women of Serbia is quite a bit 🤷♂️

I remember, I was a student in junior high school and I was no taller than 5'4.9 ft (1.65 cm). Suddenly in a summer vacation, I spent a few months in a soccer camp somewhere in a mountain area and when I came back even my mother couldn't believe it: I was 5'10 Ft (1.78 cm) and had become the third tallest among the boys in the class.However, I remained the same height even today when I am 48 years old. Former colleagues who seemed dwarfs, many of them exceed 6'2, 6'3 and it seems that I'm again the shortest among them.

That's what I like about being 181cm tall (5 foot 11.3 inches), I'm only super tall in the Philippines and at the very least in the range of average everywhere else! Plus minimal back issues to worry about when I'm older... unlike very tall people. I don't know why anybody would want to be much taller than say 6 foot 2, knowing what the future holds!

I’m of Mexican heritage and I’m 5-10. I feel just average to short in the USA, but when I go to Mexico I feel tall , especially around females there. They are getting taller in Mexico. 30 years ago, it was rare for a male Mexican to be taller than me. Now, it isn’t uncommon to be around 6 ft or taller in Mexican men.

The places where i’ve felt just average/ perfect height were most of European countries. Places where i have felt short was Russia, Netherland, Belgium & Germany.

I remember in 6th grade I was around 163 cm (5'4) that time and I was the tallest girl in my classroom : 0 and I remember when a bunch of highschoolers came to me and said "you're so tall" but like I'm 5'4 😂 Yes. 5'6 here in PH is already considered very tall for a person especially if you're a woman. Right now I'm 9th grade turning 10th... The last time I checked my height was in 2019 8th grade (165 cm) and that time I was one of the tallest "girls" in my batch... Maybe I'm 168-170 cm as of now haha I've always hated my height because they always say I'm so tall and it makes my anxiety so high especially in public. Average height of entire China is about 171~173cm. Beijing is part of northern region called Huabei. Northern regions of China such as Huabei and Dongbei have similar or higher average height compared to South Korea. I am from Serbia and I am 196cm tall. My wife is 176cm so do my daughters. When I was in Netherland, Germany etc I could rarary see short persons but very rarely tall persons of my height which is very common case in the Ex Yu coutries. Almost all of my friends are above 185cm tall and their wives are in the range of 174-178 cm.

I'm 186cm and live in the Netherlands, but I would say that foreign immigrant children have probably lowered the average (I'm half Dutch half immigrant), because most full blood ethnic Dutch are way taller than me. My guess would be at least 193cm for men, if we only count full ethnic Dutch. Also on a side note: I find it interesting that the country called the lowlands also has the tallest people.

I remember travelling to Philippines. Despite being typical height of 6'0" / 183cm, I found myself often being the tallest person around. I was even at a party surrounded by male models, and I was like the giant in the room.
Then I went to the Netherlands, and it was the complete reverse. Practically everyone towered over me. I even had to stand on tip toes to be able to use the urinal. I swear the real average height there must be at least 6'4".

As an indonesian, this is hit right in the core because I am above average, most of the people here are around 167cm to 171cm and the last time I check my height a couple of years ago is around 178.5 and maybe I am already taller than that right now. But being a tall person here is almost a pain in the ass, because If you have a height that is above average then you need to be ready for some pain in almost your everyday life, like almost bumping your head to almost anything, small size clothes everywhere and you need to pay more for custom made shoes that are fit for your size, every meal feels like a snack, tiny seat every time you take public transportation because your size taking up a lot of space, and most of the time people will seeing you as older than you are which can be a pain sometimes, damn I wish I was shorter.

That's what I like about being 181cm tall (5 foot 11.3 inches), I'm only super tall in the Philippines and at the very least in the range of average everywhere else! Right now I'm 9th grade turning 10th... The last time I checked my height was in 2019 8th grade (165 cm) and that time I was one of the tallest "girls" in my batch... Maybe I'm 168-170 cm as of now haha
I've always hated my height because they always say I'm so tall and it makes my anxiety so high especially in public. Because of it I got used to NOT standing straight in order to look smaller around people which is why I have scoliosis right now and my posture is bad (I'm trying to improve it now btw)
But then this year my sister told me that I'm not really tall because I'll look less taller if I go to western countries rather than asian ones... So I realized that I'm just in the wrong country 😂
Months passed by and I'm starting to embrace my height more ! mainly because I realized it's an advantage for me here so criminals won't go attack me cause they may think I'm strong because of my height. Also, it's part of who I am as an individual.
I heard the phrase "you're so tall" being said to me a million times already. Like in school and most especially in family gatherings hahaha. Right now, I don't feel so anxious anymore when somebody tells me I'm tall unlike back then although I'm still shy and still gets nervous around people, I'm still happy that I'm starting to accept my biggest insecurity: my height.
Instead of seeing it as a bad trait, I'm now taking it as a compliment. P.s I still feel awkward and embarrassed when they say something about my height but gladly not as worse as before mYGOSHHH 😂😂
(I still wish that I won't grow taller anymore though. I just wanna stay 5'6 or 5'7 forever)

update February 10, 2022: Few months ago I've already completely accepted and loved being "tall". I actually wanna grow to 177 cm now and just wanna be around 5'9-5'10. When I was in Netherland, Germany etc I could rarary see short persons but very rarely tall persons of my height which is very common case in the Ex Yu coutries. I'm 186cm and live in the Netherlands, but I would say that foreign immigrant children have probably lowered the average (I'm half Dutch half immigrant), because most full blood ethnic Dutch are way taller than me. My guess would be at least 193cm for men, if we only count full ethnic Dutch.
Also on a side note: I find it interesting that the country called the lowlands also has the tallest people.
