1st saw New Grass Revival in mid- late 1970's .... here remembering a show in Johnson City, TN. at an Old theater down town ... by Down Home Pickin Parlor, Ed Snodderly, and I guess "Tank" ... no doubt . Sam has been my favorite musician ever since ...joining the ranks of ...lol ...Duane Allman, and Leon Russell .... and song writer, musician Bob Marley (Sam really drew me into Marley). Duane had already passed when I became a fan as a teenager , Leon? I just always liked Leon ... and was surprised to find that Sam, John Cowan, and the 1st band toured with Leon for 2 years .....anyway, YES, Sam is a National Treasure .... I had not seen him in years( been tied up), but got to see the Sam Bush Band at Rhythm and Roots in Bristol, TN 2019 ...Great show ...so this song, esp breaking into Midnight Rider, triggers a lot of memories in this 62 year young man ...May GOD Bless You Sam, and All of "Yours!"

I have loved hearing Sammy play this medley at Telluride, Merlefest, Old Settler's festivals for many years, but the sound on this recording is so much better than most! Thank you for posting this for us Sam Bush fans!
Mahalo for this amazing video! Attended my first Festy and was not disappointed with the show. Saw Sam Bush for the first time in 2008 at Merlefest in Wilkesboro North Carolina(if you have never heard of Merlefest..look it up...the best music festival on the east coast). This song was so fun to be a part of. My hubby and I were up front in the first row...I think you can see the back of our heads! Love to play this multiple times a month...Aloha! P.S. My hubby bought a Mandolin because of this song!!

If someone would be wondering about what does "interpretation freedom" mean, I will just show him plane version of this tune and then show this version. It is literally like breaking into a new dimension.
If you could hook up Sam Bush's energy to a power grid, you could keep the lights on in most of our major cities! Also, I have a question - the axe Sam plays on Midnight Rider - the one that looks like a Fender Strat that stayed in the dryer too long (and lost two strings) - tenor electric guitar? Electric Mando without the octaves? Inquiring minds want to know...
It's actually a banjo, believe it or not. The organ sound is all through the effects. I saw it up and personal when they came through St. Louis (a couple of times!).
What joy it must be to play at that level...!
We are lucky to have Sam around. No “Americana” without him.
Just saw him do this at Merlefest! Best music I ever heard

Bong hits & banjos got me here...
Now I don't wanna leave!!
Awesome performance!
Sam Bush is a gotdam national treasure!
Sam, loved you for around 49 years now. Learned to play mando from you homespun tapes. Thank you for every thing.

Amazed....the banjo player strapped on a guitar and became allman and sam playing slide mandolin was a treat.
a truly faithful and brilliant arrangement of this "ol' time" classic
That Resonator mandolin and Sam Bush are "too cool."
This band just brought tears to my eyes.
Wow! A jam for the ages!

Wow that was awesome 🙏🏻 thank you
Wonderful
Always lookin' for new iterations of Old Joe Clark.
One of American musics "ur-tunes" .

This givs me chills.
Such an awesome video! Love Sam Bush!!
Music make`s happyiness !
Holy Smokes that baby strat is cool
The electric sunburst mando-strat. He must just really be used to that scale length, he jams on the mandolin no matter what style he's going for
WoW!!
Move over Jimmy let Sam Bush take over!
For Byrd. How about 'Poor Richard's Almanac' on American Heritage Label. Where I heard this movie for the first time!!

The Mando-caster!
Have always loved that slide steel mandolin. Is it a National?
I wonder if it's not a mandolin, since it seems to be tuned to an open chord...like maybe a steel tenor guitar...4 strings...makes sense
Just love the sound of the Resonator Mandolin.... I wonder how heavy it is :D
Heavy in sound !
That's for sure! :)
Not heavy at all -- around 3 pounds or so. I have a 1930 National Triolian, very similar to Sam's. The metal is not that thick. It's tuned in open D.
Is that not something from Jeff Beck's album Blow by Blow that Sam breaks into there at 12:25? I'm sure it is.
Yep, "You know what I mean"
Nice save when he's strap came loose.
👍
Hi-hat's on the wrong side of the stereo image; other than that, awesome video!
happens more that you think...
What the heck is that axe that sounds like a Hammond? I see it has 5 strings?
It's actually a banjo, believe it or not. The organ sound is all through the effects. I saw it up and personal when they came through St. Louis (a couple of times!).
Banjo tune - Where`s the Banjo picker .???
Why does that stringed instrument sound like an organ?
Brad Baxter it is rigged with a guitar synthesizer.
What happened to the old line? "Went to see ole Joe Clark, ole Joe wasn't home? Jumped in bed with ole Joe's wife, broke her curling comb."
Who`s the one on the T-shirt ?
That's Sean Penn's character 'Spicolli' from the classic movie 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'
