I needed this video months ago. I now have 1 Eico and 2 Heathkit RF generators..... But this one sounds like what I needed to begin with. Thanks for the help and useful info Mike

Based on your review, I bought the (same model) Koolertron and really like it. I am in the process of aligning a Hammarlund HQ129X and therefore need the sweep function. The radio manual doesn't give much guidance on setting up the sweep generator, and sweep generators were probably not too common when the 129 was produced. Do you have any thoughts on setting these controls on the Koolertron?
    1. Sweep direction (round-trip, increment or decrement)?
    2. Sweep amplitude (start and stop amplitude)?
    3. Sweep duty cycle and stop duty cycle?

I have forgotten what the IF on that is, but I will assume its 455Khz. a 40 Khz spread would be good. Meaning start at 435 and end at 475. Now the 64 dollar question. What are you monitoring the output of the IF with?

I don't have a spectrum analyzer, so I am monitoring the output with a scope per the method in the manual. And you are correct. The IF is 455kHz

I am monitoring the output with an oscilloscope. I am sure a spectrum analyzer would be better but don't have one. I would be open to purchasing a "poor man's spectrum analyzer". Can you suggest a particular model or app? John

A few things. 1) what model of Hammarlund are you working on? 2) where are you clipping on to monitor output? 3) leave this with me for a bit. I will look at the manual and help you work thru this.

Can you tell me the model number of this generator?

Hi Mike. I don't think my reply got through, so I will reply to your questions again. The radio is a Hammarlund HQ-129 x and I attached my scope to the speaker output terminals. John

      1) Is it possible for you to join our facebook help group? 2) I have the manual now and i am reviewing. 3) it is usual to to clip on to the AVC line with the scope and do a 40 Khz sweep of the IF, BUT you are dealing with the crystal filter alignment correct??

reviewing the poorly written manual, they do not ask you to clip onto audio output for IF alignment. They wish you to clip onto the output of each IF stage as you go. Which makes for sense for the o-scope routine. If you want to clip onto the audio output, use a steady 455 khz signal and an AC volt meter clipped onto the speaker. Tune for peak.

Thank You for the video. I was a looking for a signal generator to work on audio/radio equipment. I would have been nice to have the model number in the Title/comment section I think I found it on Amazon. Thank You again for the video!

I expressly didnt include the model number as I am aware Koolertron just changed the model number. However it appears as the 60 Mhz new model is what you would be after.
