Is this something I should expect to happen in a near future right after receiving my new piano? Should I be scared here? Appreciate your thoughts on this please. Cheers from the Netherlands

Thanks for the suggestion! We will do our best to tackle those comparisons for you. With that said, we have done individual review videos of all of those models, so, if you jump between the videos, hopefully, you'll get a good impression of the specific tonal differences between them. :)
@@MerriamPianos Thanks! I've been switching between videos but to hear a comparison (via Line-outs) of both side by side would definitely be worthwhile. I haven't come across anyone else that's done that. Whilst you would expect the FP-10 to sound the same as the older FP-30, I have a feeling it won't as it was released much later. As also mentioned in a previous comment, the user service manual for the FP-10 appears to indicate a BMC chip. ☺️
The jack size is irrelevant in terms of signal. All you need a cable or adapter to go from 1/8” TRS to 1/4” TRS. Or some computers come with an 1/8” input which you can probably record directly into. Alternatively, you can use the bluetooth record function. From there, you can probably export the MIDI or even record the audio playback in a number of ways. Just spend some time trying different things. There’s probably a number of videos about it.
Hi there! While there are no line outs, you could use the headphone out as a line out. So, from that perspective, you could technically connect external speakers. :)
Hi. Surprisingly, I can connect my FP10 to the Piano Designer app. I wonder myself this: when I save an edition from the app directly to the piano, on which FP10 preset is stored? Piano 1,2,3 or 4? Could you help me clearing this, please? Thanks a lot
I have got this piano (fp10) for 7 months now and I can tell you that is fantastic... no problem at all and super real action and feel. I dont think you can find something better than this at this price. Really recomended over the casio.
From everything ive heard you really cant beat the fp10 at it's price. I just ordered it and its gunna be my first piano! Wish you all the luck on your new journey my dude.
I got the FP-10 after comparing to the PX160. The Casio is great and has more features... BUT... in my opinion, the piano is tinny and decays way too quickly. Plus, the action gets clickety-clackety (by this I mean loud... Google to see people's complaints) If you're using this instrument as a piano primarily, I can't recommend the FP-10 enough.
@@yesikurniasih9059 I think this piano is a good beginner piano. I like how it sounds and how it feels. The sounds are a bit low in the headset with different touch sensitivity. The built-in speakers are under the piano which is a bit annoying if you gonna put the piano over the table. It has the function like string resistance and the Half-Pedaling which is a good function that comes with roland- Roland dp-10 which I highly recommend buying with the piano, because the pedal that comes with the piano itself sucks. Over all it is a good piano "highly recommend" 9/10 :D
My FP 10 arrived today. My first impression is that the sounds of the pianos are mildly disappointing: ok-ish for a secondary keyboard, but they do not have the clarity of an acoustic piano. Of the four piano sounds, I think I prefer the fourth one. I liked the harpsichord though. The action is pretty good, if a little heavy. The standard pedal is not so great. Roland^s SP 10 pedal (more that twice the price of alternative sustain pedals) is supposed to give half pedal functionality, but I understand that the FP 10 only supports a literal 50% pedal effect rather than a graded response. At some point I shall want a better pedal so would be interested in what others have used.
Hi! Brent here! I'm sorry to hear you were a bit disappointed with the FP10's piano sound. While the speakers aren't particularly powerful, I have found the headphone experience and direct lineout sound to be quite impressive. You can always try running the piano through an amplifier to enhance the sonic experience. Also, the upgraded DP10 pedal is a very worthwhile investment for anyone that does a lot of nuanced pedal work. Thanks for sharing your insights and all the best!
@@MerriamPianos Thank you for your prompt reply and your suggestions. I am hoping to tweak and brighten up the sound a bit from the apps, once I have installed them. I doubt even the best electronic pianos can really mimic the acoustic experience. I did warm to the first harpsichord: I played a few of Bach's Goldberg variations and liked the sound it produced. I expect I shall have to get the DP 10 pedal - I am doubtful there is an alternative.
The FP10 is a bit more a streamlined model, but it has a wonderful touch and tone. If you're looking for a great digital instrument without a ton of bells and whistles, it is an excellent choice. :)
Besides the fp 10 what other option is there for getting the best action for the dollar? I really dont care about any feature rather than a good acoustic piano sound, great action and the sustained pedal. Thanks!!
To be entirely honest, from an action standpoint, the FP10 is very difficult to compete with at this price point. It truly is one of, if not, the best actions in this price category.
Hi there! The FP10 is still an excellent buy and our top selling digital piano under $1000. Personally, I would prefer it over the P145 and many other models at this price point because the FP10's PHA4 action provides an excellent, authentic-feeling touch. :)
Many aspiring piano players make the jump to a higher-end piano right off the hop. It is not a bad idea at all if budget permits. A more rewarding musical experience will often provide greater inspiration! :)
Hey, I have a question about using it for a midi controller. How do you connect it to your pc? Is it with a usb cable or totally wireless? And also, is the cable included when you buy the piano or do you need a seperate one?
@@elthpiano Absolutely. You can connect to the computer via MIDI USB cable and then play VSTi's either standalone or in a DAW to record the MIDI performance.
I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the Bluetooth. It is important to note that the FP10 is only able to transmit MIDI information via Bluetooth. Bluetooth audio or Bluetooth headphones are not possible with the FP10.
How many songs can be recorded in piano partner? Pls answer. I am considering to buy this piano vs kawai es110. Does es110 has feature to record song in Android? Thanks Stu
The FP10 does not have Bluetooth connectivity. You can plug it into a device with a USB connector and use it as a MIDI controller that way. Thanks for the question! :)
Hello and thank you for your answer On the homepage of roland, it says that it has bluetooth. It also says that on the dealer pages. This seems to depend on the region. Here in Switzerland, the FP-10 is currently available for CHF 360 (approx. USD 325)

Hmmm that is strange. You FP10 should still be covered under warranty, so I'm sure the dealer you purchased from will help get things resolved for you. Best of luck!
no. bluetooth headphones doesnt work with any piano on the market rightnow.doesnt matter how much you pay. even 20.000 dollar pianos doesnt have that. reason is latency
No, the Bluetooth is MIDI only, not Audio-over-Bluetooth. You'd have to use a physical cable to attach an external speaker. Thanks for the question! -stu
is the DP 10 continuous with the FP-10 .Im reading its only continuous with FP-30 and above and that its not sending continuous midi values to garritan or pianoteq and is only sending 3 midi values for the pedal :(
I cannot find the Roland FP-10 anywhere for sale. it has been replaced by the somewhat cheaper Roland go:88 which isn't as good from what I can tell. any suggestions? I wanted to get into playing the piano and the Roland fp-10 was perfect for me.
@Mitsi Grabblerberg yep I do know what's a MIDI, just curious as I've never seen people using a digital piano to create beats etc. I was thinking to get the FP-10 because I'm a piano player and wanted a hammer action board to do pretty much everything for me, but I get another piano in the end last month.
@Thinh Tran i have a casio previa 350 bk. it has excellent piano sound quality like an acoustic piano (or closer). i love the weighted keys and the ivory simulated finished. also it has a powerful speakers. it rocks the piano at full volume. CONS: the keys has a bit louder mechanical sound when press strongly. sadly now, the C2, C2 sharp was damaged. it has a weird pulsating sound when press. i was very dismayed and i put a tape on it so that its not press. i bring it at a local shop for repairs. the technician told showed me the defective IC. unfortunately he promised to fixed it, but just promises. its in the shop for more than a year until i recover it back. the power adapter was destroyed and the free pedal was lost. buy a piano brand that has good customer service and keep the receipt as long as you owned the piano. im opting for this device. i have a roland RS-5 (2001 model). its ok up to now until it was wet due to rain. try the casio ctx models it has the best sound in its category, but the keys are not weighted. i owned a casio ctx700.
Roland FP10 or Kawai ES110? FP30 is not an option since it costs a lot more than the FP10 here in the Philippines. FP10 and ES110 have the same price here. Here, the FP10 and ES110 cost ₽35,000 and the FP30 costs ₽43,000 so the difference is around 157 USD. One important factor for me is overall durability (hardware quality). I know the ES110 has twice the max polyphony but I'm wondering if this is a big issue. I'm not a piano pro and I'll be using the DP mostly for giving voice lessons.
For voice lessons, if you had a stereo or an amplifier, I would say that it's down to your own preference of touch and tone. Both have great actions! But if you were hoping to use it on its own just with internal speakers, the ES110 is going to give you a bigger, deeper sound. I also personally find the ES110 piano tone to be a bit more authentic and warm.
I'm in the same situation. I will go with the FP-10 mainly because of the textured keys and the key action in general. It's on a another level. I just hope they have fixed the "clicky keys" issue by now.
Hi Stu! Some people keep spamming about clicky keys. Isnt this 'clicky' problem comes with a new one when u buy it? Or they always uses to lubricate the keys before sending it?
I own a fp-10 and if you're talking about the recording in app, you connect your phone to your piano via app, create an account, and everything you do you can replay on the app, whether it's a key press etc. As soon as you press a key it records it and a few seconds later the audio is available. The recording isnt recorded via microphone, its recorded via what the app knows you pressed, so the sound quality is perfect and like if you were hearing it yourself for the first time, without any background noise as the app itself creates the sound based on what you played.
@@love-nsky I honestly believe the fp-10 is worth it, the keys have a nice ivory feel, according to what others have explained it's the best in class for the price in terms of future switching to an acoustic piano. It sounds great in my opinion, isnt as portable as you might think It is (though it is definitely portable). Its just not like carry it around portable, I dont know if that matters but I'd just like to let you know that there is definitely some weight to it. The app while useful and it does include some songs, you cant add songs you want to learn and the ones on there are fairly complex for beginners, the app can train you to know your keys in note form , and spit out the sound of the key and you click on the note, also record your music through it, and change a lot of piano sounds and settings on there, but that's about it. Basically if you're looking for a piano, though this might be a bit expensive compared to the other cheaper options, it does pack a lot of things and I still do firmly believe that I picked the right piano two months ago.
@@gamez4glory799 would you recommend it over p125 keeping in mind the fact that p125 has same action as that of p45 along with some extra onboard functionality. I'm a beginner and I've heard that Yamaha's action is shit ,what I'm worried about is the build quality of fp 10 is it solid?
@@pranjalkumar272 The keys do definitely feel solid, and the general build quality is good. Its made out of hard dense plastic that isn't meant to chip off or feel hallow. Its definitely got some weight to it, though i wouldn't worry about it falling apart as mine still looks like new after keeping it clean and stationary. The build quality of the keys are great, the plastic itself will not fall apart and doesn't get fingerprints on it too much due to its finish. Its definitely not made out of metals, though it works and doesnt feel like its cheap

I haven't come across anyone else that's done that. Whilst you would expect the FP-10 to sound the same as the older FP-30, I have a feeling it won't as it was released much later. As also mentioned in a previous comment, the user service manual for the FP-10 appears to indicate a BMC chip. ☺️
You are awesome! Thank you for your great reviews
Price is now 899? I'm in Hamilton and I like to buy it, can I pay online and pick it up in the store? Thank you
how do i record audio if the only output is audio jack for headphone
The jack size is irrelevant in terms of signal. All you need a cable or adapter to go from 1/8” TRS to 1/4” TRS. Or some computers come with an 1/8” input which you can probably record directly into. Alternatively, you can use the bluetooth record function. From there, you can probably export the MIDI or even record the audio playback in a number of ways. Just spend some time trying different things. There’s probably a number of videos about it.
I'm sure that if this keyboard had pitch bend and modulation wheels, thousands of home studio owners would be buying it.
I think that is a very fair assumption! ;)
Great piano, Great explanation!
Unfortunately the Bluetooth Connection does not work at all with my android phone so i have to use the usb port

Would love to get this over my P45

How do you record the piano?
Can i load Songs from the Internet and then let the FP-10 play it? Over Bluetooth?
Ahhhhh my dream piano :
I am going to look for you for some jazz piano lessons... Lovely and expressive playing there...
Beautiful review and performance. Great job!
does the FP10 have line outputs? can you connect external speakers?
Just bought mine today. Great review and I love your playing

Very good review! Thanks...
I'm looking for my first piano as a beginner... I've been looking at the Casio px 160 ... would you choose the Roland fp 10 over the Casio ????
@@MrVara411 The PHA-4 action is no different in the clicking I find. How is yours doing?
My first Piano :)
sorry i want to ask, is this piano good and quality? sorry if it disturbs
@@Jin0069 Thank you, so Roland FP10 piano is highly recommended, thanks for the answer
@Thi Vo Truong
For me it is quite normal
It must be a brand new Grand Piano with a lot of features and sounds 😊
The FP10 is a bit more a streamlined model, but it has a wonderful touch and tone. If you're looking for a great digital instrument without a ton of bells and whistles, it is an excellent choice. :)
Besides the fp 10 what other option is there for getting the best action for the dollar? I really dont care about any feature rather than a good acoustic piano sound, great action and the sustained pedal. Thanks!!
To be entirely honest, from an action standpoint, the FP10 is very difficult to compete with at this price point. It truly is one of, if not, the best actions in this price category.
@@MerriamPianos Thanks a lot Stu!
What’s the current best action for vst under $1000 ?
Can you adjust the individual volumes of the layered sounds? Real time?
I don't believe you can adjust the volumes of the layered sounds onboard the piano in real time unfortunately.
Is fp10 still a great one to buy in 2023? Could anyone give me a comparison with yamaha p145 that just came out. Thanks
I’ve tried both and definitely I would prefer Roland FP-10 over the Yamaha P-145. Mainly because of the key response and tone
Hi there! The FP10 is still an excellent buy and our top selling digital piano under $1000. Personally, I would prefer it over the P145 and many other models at this price point because the FP10's PHA4 action provides an excellent, authentic-feeling touch. :)
As a beginner I’m going straight in at a FP 90x or a RD 2000
Many aspiring piano players make the jump to a higher-end piano right off the hop. It is not a bad idea at all if budget permits. A more rewarding musical experience will often provide greater inspiration! :)
I’ve got the FP-10. Best action and feel of the keys of any similarly priced model I tried and I use it primarily as a MIDI controller. Perfect.
Some people say that black keys are a bit too clicky on release. It is true?
Hey, I have a question about using it for a midi controller. How do you connect it to your pc? Is it with a usb cable or totally wireless? And also, is the cable included when you buy the piano or do you need a seperate one?
Can you record midi when the piano is connected to the computer? (with the right software)
@@elthpiano Absolutely. You can connect to the computer via MIDI USB cable and then play VSTi's either standalone or in a DAW to record the MIDI performance.
Guess that decides it! fp10 won me over from korg b2.
there appears to be some clicking noise issue with the fp10, you can look it up online
I'm on my 5th FP10. Has yours started clicking yet?
@@Pe6ek Excuse me, you mean you've returned it four times because of the clicking?
I have an "FP-10 ACR" and ive been trying to get bluetooth to work for like the past 30 minutes but no sign of anything
I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the Bluetooth. It is important to note that the FP10 is only able to transmit MIDI information via Bluetooth. Bluetooth audio or Bluetooth headphones are not possible with the FP10.
Can you do a review for a KORG B series...?
How many songs can be recorded in piano partner? Pls answer. I am considering to buy this piano vs kawai es110.
Does es110 has feature to record song in Android?
Thanks Stu
How about Bluetooth connectivity? Is it possible to stream some midi-sound from iPad to the FB-10 and accompany with piano-sound?
The FP10 does not have Bluetooth connectivity. You can plug it into a device with a USB connector and use it as a MIDI controller that way. Thanks for the question! :)
Hello and thank you for your answer
On the homepage of roland, it says that it has bluetooth. It also says that on the dealer pages.
This seems to depend on the region.
Here in Switzerland, the FP-10 is currently available for CHF 360 (approx. USD 325)
i need help i just bought fp10 and was playing no problem and i pressed something and now hammer action doesnt work meaning, that its not sensitive to touch when i press key its max sound doesnt matter how hward i press
Hmmm that is strange. You FP10 should still be covered under warranty, so I'm sure the dealer you purchased from will help get things resolved for you. Best of luck!
Great review.
Could i use it for live performances as a church for instance?
not with the internal speakers, they arent very powerful
I want to get into hiding a DAW, as well as learning to play piano "properly". Would this hook up to a Mac running logic or a similar daw?
Hi there! Yup! The FP10 has a USB connection, which allows you to use it as a MIDI controller and in conjunction with DAWs.

can you tell me to which speakers the fp10 is connected because the sound is much better than through my headphones sennheiser hd400s

but the sound must have been recorded by a source that produces the sound, these must be speakers, I want to know which speakers@@MerriamPianos
I just purchased this for my daughters. Can this be connected to a Bluetooth headphone?
no. bluetooth headphones doesnt work with any piano on the market rightnow.doesnt matter how much you pay. even 20.000 dollar pianos doesnt have that. reason is latency
Can you play the keyboard thru Bluetooth speakers
2 months late but yes
Can this bluetooth conection be used with external speakers?
No, the Bluetooth is MIDI only, not Audio-over-Bluetooth. You'd have to use a physical cable to attach an external speaker. Thanks for the question! -stu
is the DP 10 continuous with the FP-10 .Im reading its only continuous with FP-30 and above and that its not sending continuous midi values to garritan or pianoteq and is only sending 3 midi values for the pedal :(
Hi there! According to Roland's website, the DP10 is capable of half-pedal support when being used in conjunction with the FP10.
@@MerriamPianos Excellent ! Thank you
I cannot find the Roland FP-10 anywhere for sale. it has been replaced by the somewhat cheaper Roland go:88 which isn't as good from what I can tell. any suggestions? I wanted to get into playing the piano and the Roland fp-10 was perfect for me.

It costs 899 in canada now. Hefty jump. Is it still the best at that price point?
I think you will still be very hard pressed to find a better piano action for under $1000. It really as an incredibly touch given its price point. :)
Does the FP10 have a sixties organ a la The Doors? This is very important for me
The FP10 does have some additional sounds, including organ and electric piano. :)
@@MerriamPianos thanks but is it the real sixties sound?
Do the black keys also have a texture like the white keys?
No, the PHA-4 features a simulated ivory texture on the white keys, but not on the black keys. Thanks and all the best! :)
@@MerriamPianos Thanks. Those are the worst culprits for me.
Please, can you write the name of the first app?
Since it supports MIDI function, I guess I could make drum beats and basses with this piano right?
@Mitsi Grabblerberg yep I do know what's a MIDI, just curious as I've never seen people using a digital piano to create beats etc. I was thinking to get the FP-10 because I'm a piano player and wanted a hammer action board to do pretty much everything for me, but I get another piano in the end last month.
I cant them online. Anyone got a link to where i can buy?
how do you tranpose on this?
Transposition can be achieved by holding the "Function" button and pressing the key that is labelled above the keyboard as "+1/-1 Transpose."
So, Bluetooth Audio??
what i care about is the piano sound quality and the key action. nothing more nothing less.

Hi, is the recording of the music in app good and clear enough?? And is it in mp4 format or other??
I own a fp-10 and if you're talking about the recording in app, you connect your phone to your piano via app, create an account, and everything you do you can replay on the app, whether it's a key press etc. As soon as you press a key it records it and a few seconds later the audio is available. The recording isnt recorded via microphone, its recorded via what the app knows you pressed, so the sound quality is perfect and like if you were hearing it yourself for the first time, without any background noise as the app itself creates the sound based on what you played.
@@gamez4glory799 would you advice me the Roland fp10 than yamaha p45?
