even though the dead grew into the duo on drums it always amazes me how bill is just right on top of the music when he’s playing alone - truly outstanding
@Grateful Varmints YEP - I couldn't agree more. That thick, in-your-face Lesh tone is the first thing I associate '71 with - it's a feature. The outta-tune guitars are a bug.
@Grateful Varmints That's the thing about the Dead -there are always some negatives along with the positives. They were a fascinating and innovative band. I love the Dead, but, man, I just wish they had (a) rehearsed more often, (b) written some more original songs in their final years and (c) not chosen Vince to replace Brent (that's a decision I will never understand).
@@andrewptob Weir's playing the first solo here, as always (just like on, for example, China Cat/Rider). Plus, as a Berklee-trained guitarist and Deadhead of forty-plus years, there's zero mystery to me in what Jerry did - but still quite a bit to what Weir did.
@@andrewptob Yeah, which often happens in such footage (evidently, many cameramen aren't musicians or particularly music-savvy). But what I'M saying is that I find Weir's playing more interesting (never mind that I think Jerry was better on acoustic, pedal steel, and banjo than electric guitar).
There is nothing cooler than 71-74 Grateful Dead...😏
I think fall '79 is the coolest.
Oh yes there is....More GD😂😂😎😎🏄♂️🏄♂️GD4Ever
'77 for me
You'd have to include 1968-70. Pigpen!
‘69 Dead

It's hard to find a band with so many continuous years of excellence...from 69 to 78 everything is pure gold
Thanks for all your hard work, Voodoo. A day without the Dead is like a day without sunshine!
That was 🔥🔥🔥 The greatest band to have ever existed, imo! Love me some Dead! 💖😍 I miss them. 😢☹
Merci beaucoup, Monsignor Voodoo! Read about this performance countless times but never seen it. What an amazing gift!! C’est super chouette! ❤️💀⚡️🥀✌🏼
What a bassist Phil Lesh was! That sound! Its just wonderful!
I'd bet Pigpen would have a few choice words to say about the state of affairs with the "band" now.
Billy! Owsley makes some good shit don’t he? ! You’re a joy of a drummer!
Garcia at his coolest.
thx a lot Voodoo! - love Pigpen's yodeling "Bay-Eeh-Bay here I am..."
Thank you, excellent quality as always. Pigpen!
Thank you so much for uploading
Great footage!

懐古趣味ではない、今も彼らのステージ分素敵だ。
何時も彼らの演奏と共に。

Hard To Handle is hard to handle without jERRY JAM
Classic. Thanks.
Great video!
Thanks voodoo I am also a big fan of the Wake of The Flood Crow logo
The man had soul..
Your stuff is awesome.I look for your tag because the audio quality is almost always better.
precious
The Dead only needed one drummer ever and it’s Bill
Agreed. One drummer has a better sound.
Yup, he's got a jazzier sound and more space for rest of em
@@sammack1564 yup really cooks with just Bill I wonder if he really wanted another drummer?
How dare you disrespect Mikey like that?
@@JaggedRecordsVa Dead better with one drummer and Bill is the man
thank u so much for those 6 minutes
MFn Pigpen lays it down hard. Great video. Hey now!

Bill Gates on Bass!
That's Bill Gates smarter brother.
Wasn't this during Europe 72 tour?
June 71. They flew over to play a festival that fell through. So it wasn't a total wash, set up at the promoter's chateau for a private party.
Preferable to the original song IMO.
Wow - I tend to associate '71 with sloppy playing and out of tune guitars but none of that is on display here.

Yeah, let's focus on the rhythm section when Jerry is laying down a sweet solo. Sigh...
I'd rather see what Weir's doing, since he always played the coolest guitar licks on this tune.
xianshep During a Jerry solo, you prefer to watch Bob’a rhythm playing? To each his own...

xianshep I know who’s playing what; I’m talking about during Jerry’s solo where we can’t see him play. ✌️
