My god no other book utterly captivated me the way the Song of Achilles did! I’ve reread it multiple times & still it doesn’t cease to pain & overwhelm me 💔. The raven cycle series is my sister’s favorite books ever.
The Starless Sea is also my #1 favorite book ever. It’s so beautiful and lyrical. I also only read it once but it gripped me and I still think about it daily. I also got the tattoos for this book. It’s such a special book and I plan to do a reread of this in the winter. ❤
In my opinion, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous has some of the most beautiful writing I’ve ever read. Ocean Vuong writes like he invented English. And his voice is just beautiful 👩🍳😘🤌
i love your shoutout to the raven cycle series! you described my exact feelings for it in such a beautiful way :') i need to do a re-read this fall/winter
I don't even know how to explain the plot of The Starless Sea but I still remember how I felt reading it. So I always say it's my favorite book! I have the UK special edition one in dark blue thanks to mercari. But before that because I couldn't find the SE, I had someone on etsy spray the edges black of the regular UK one and made the exact stamps in white to make it inverted. I treasure both.
Ocean Vuong has stolen my literary heart! I read ON EARTH WE'RE BREIFLY GORGEOUS recently. Instant 5 outta 5 star read I've been able to consume all year! I had to hug that book it did so many things to me emotionally. I had to read his poetry collection right after that! If he writes another novel, that's an instant cart/run to the nearest bookstore to buy and consume immediately action for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!😭💖 And write that book! I'd read a book written by you Ellias!💗💗💗
Ahh the way The Raven Cycle made me feel known remains unmatched to this day. 💙 Friendship? Favorite 🤧 Prose? Damn beautiful Magic? So palpable (more ley lines and magical forests pls) Ahh I need to get that TRC tat soon~
I've read all of these and they're my all time favorites as well 😂 just further proof why you're my favorite booktuber. (You already read most of the books I'd recommend but I think you might enjoy: The Greenbone Saga by Fonda Lee, These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever & The Radiant Emperor duology by Shelley Parker Chan)
I really enjoyed this, tysm for sharing your thoughts and reflections. Some of my favorite books aren’t technically great, but they are evocative and unique, and sometimes I wonder if that is more important. I’m so tempted to try out the Raven Boys now 😅
Ocean Vuong is on another level of top tier for me. His writing is so raw and emotional. The beauty in his writing is unlike anything else I have ever read ❤️📚
I read the raven cycle years ago cause of you and Kayla :) and now I hate y’all cause I’m obsessed and then I’ve spent so much money on the Fairyloot set! 😭😭😭
I read Piranesi last year at your recommendation, and I loved it. It was so mysterious and unexpected. I loved reading a book where I had no idea where it was going, that does bring me back to reading in ny childhood. 💙🩵
listen, freshmen in college me ate up the all for the game series. but adult me? aftg fanfiction still has me entranced. how dare this hecking fandom create such good content? the audacity!
We share a lot of the same favorites, so here's some of my all time favorites that weren't on your list. Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel, Things You Save in a Fire by Katherine Center, Migrations by Charlotte McConaghy, Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley, Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, In Memoriam by Alice Winn, and You & Me by Tal Bauer.
We have very overlapping favorites! Some more of mine are: handmaid's tale, giovanni's room, lie with me, the age of innocence, the tenant of wildfell hall, the gift of rain.
We have quite a few overlaps in our lists, but surprisingly, I haven’t read the Raven cycle. I do have a guilty pleasure on my list though, Stardust, is forever a favorite.
Loved so many of these, especially Summer Sons and AFTG! You should check out The Half Life of Valery K by Natasha Pulley and Warchild by Karin Lowachee, I think they both would hit that vibe similar to a lot of these other books and I loved them both so much!
I also think that thriller books are your brand. 📚 Your cat is sooooo adorable! 😻 Is the audio recorded? It's like you used your phone as a lapel microphone. 🎤📱
i had to use my phone recording bc the camera mic sucked and my mic was busted so while im waiting for the one to come in the mail i used my phone instead!
I was about to DNF it around 100 pages in, I was like why would I want to read about these dumb dude-bros, and where is the queer content I was promised? but I powered through and I ended up loving it. I kinda wanted to give it five stars, but I felt like I couldn’t since I almost didn’t finish it 😅 but I love those dumb dude-bros now and gave it a four.
@@niyuktijain5990 I dunno 😬 I can understand why it wouldn’t jive with everyone. But it is very slow burn that I think pays off fairly well. Sorry, I’m not very helpful!
I’ve never read The Raven Cycle cause I’ve heard mixed things 😂🙈. Might have to just give it a try though! Also have been thinking about rereading A Little Life but I’m still traumatized from the first time I read it 5 years ago lol but I did love it 😭
I was going to listen to your video, but when I discovered you were talking to a stick… I lost all interest in what you were saying and spent all my time wondering “why is this guy talking to a stick?“ Finally I got bored of the stick mystery and found a different video to watch.
the raven cycle & all for the game series defined my high school era 😭😭 still reread them at least once a year
every year!!
reading the raven cycle at age 14 irrevocably altered my brain chemistry
it was my canon event post high school
My god no other book utterly captivated me the way the Song of Achilles did! I’ve reread it multiple times & still it doesn’t cease to pain & overwhelm me 💔. The raven cycle series is my sister’s favorite books ever.

I think that’s so powerful that Ocean Vuong’s poetry made you want to write. You should do it! ❤❤❤

Oh my! What an amazing list!! I'm also a Piranesi lover. One of my super favorites would be Never let me go (Kazuo Ishiguro). Thank you so much 😊

I really enjoyed this, tysm for sharing your thoughts and reflections. Some of my favorite books aren’t technically great, but they are evocative and unique, and sometimes I wonder if that is more important. I’m so tempted to try out the Raven Boys now 😅
PLEASE DO!! definitely fits into the evocative and unique box for sureeee

You and Pira are so amazing! Happy to see both of you love the new couch❤️
None of my friends have ever read The Raven Cycle and it's a crime because it is spectacular. You're making me want to read it for a third time.
they aren't your friends then!!!
ocean vuong should be billed for my therapy. his writing absolutely destroys me.
destroys and cures me in one go: therapy.
that’s it i’m (re)rereading trc. you described it so well!

Any The Song of Archilles appreciation always makes me happy because till today it remains my no.1 favourite book😢

omgggg i think most people will love it but its definitely like a fever dream for sure
The fact that you love the Raven Cycle, makes me love that series even more!
Have you read the dreamer trilogy?
ive read the firsst one but it honestly cannot compare!! need to reread the first book though
@@ellias no it definitely doesn't compare. But the ending was quite satisfying in my opinion! :)
Have you read The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune? One of my all time favorites. 😊
YES THAT ONE IS ALSO A FAVORITE AS WELL!!
I was going to comment on the last video: the imaginary mic is a mood 🤣 10/10.

the raven cycle is how i found your channel. did you read the dreamer trilogy?
omggg really! that's so cool. and ive only read the first book and not the entire trilogy yet, did you finish it?
@@ellias i did finish the trilogy! curious to hear what you think whenever you get around to reading it! :)
the raven cycle changed my life and i still search for a book that has the same feeling and it has been impossible
literally one of a kind. i think its special in that way but really want to find something similar
How did 'vita nostra' not even got into the nomination list ? 😭
haha everything listed before was an honorary mention and some new fav books!
We have so many favourites in common!!
TASTE!!!
Summer sons was dnf for me. I guess because of the writing style
I was about to DNF it around 100 pages in, I was like why would I want to read about these dumb dude-bros, and where is the queer content I was promised? but I powered through and I ended up loving it. I can't believe there were no thrillers in the video.
haha its bc i haven't read any good ones lately!!
im just here waiting for the day when the Jade City trilogy would make the cut
oooh we'll see; that trilogy hyped asf
Based on your fav books, I think you would like The Age of a Lobster by Stephen Mathews.
