I'm a very honest person.... you are amazing! I peeped your shop and here is what I was a a viewer. PS I wont tell you what you want to hear I will tell you what you need to hear. I think if you work on a collection have consistency in colors and theme. Try to brand yourself out with 2 main fonts. I think your banner and pfp should also brand out to be remembered. As, far as designing in the art aspect, take a 2 days off and do not draw. Let your mind rest it out. When the drawing day comes think about what your main idea is for the new collection, draw one sketch then draw little things that go with it around it. Focus. keep the theme and when you color, save the flat colors. I see you are so bubbly and you go from one thing to the next fast. Maybe trying one theme for each collection might help or keeping the same art style. You are so lucky to have everything you have right now. I know you can do it. Though I like your you videos I see you struggle and I really want to see you rise up. Don't take this in a wrong way please! Just breathe and try this change if you want. You really don't have too! I am a viewer and I like ordering from small shops so these are things I see bigger shops doing. I know you might want to be unique but setting a foundation doesn't sound to bad either. You can do it Abi ! Best of lucks!

I really related to the part where you talked about your mom giving you enough to have a comfortable enough life, but not really having money. You've mentioned it a few times throughout your videos, and honestly I think that's why I've gotten attached to your channel. As an outsider knowing that much, I would never judge you for not driving or moving out. Those kind of cards you were dealt means it might be just that harder to reach that pace you perceive with your peers. We all have our own pace and there's no ahead or behind! I just admire how hard you're working to reach your dreams. Your community sees your efforts, we see you! You are so cool, Abi :) Don't ever forget!! From one artsy girly to another ❤

    Hi Abi,
I just want to let you know that you are not alone. It's really hard not to program our brain into thinking that we have to be successful in our 20's, especially be successful enough to own cars and houses. But I think our 20's is the time to grow as an individual, fostering a good mindset that opens the doors for success. I am also in the same boat with seeing very little progress in my own business and living at home with my mom. So I definitely feel you and understand your thoughts. I'm trying to practice gratitude and live everyday doing my best.

Girl, you are not a failure, you know what you want and you are acting on it! I just want to say, that for one, your hard work will pay off! And second, you are straining yourself too much, don't be afraid to take it back a little bit, your business won't go anywhere, and you have so much time ahead of you to grow it, so try to enjoy this process as much as you can, because you know what? This is probably (even though challenging) much more fun than 'achieving the success' because what then? 😊

Hi Abi. Just wanted to come here and say you are not a failure. You’re pretty young. Just keep at it and change your mindset and you will get there. When you act “small”
You will stay small. Act as if you get 40 orders a day. And prepare your business for it so when it happens, it doesn’t shock you. You expect it to.
    Hope I’m making sense.

It’s okay to feel that way, and it’s great that you are sharing your feelings. My daughter is around your age, and I can recall the countless convos we’ve had with her feeling this same exact way. My advice to her was this. You are where you’re supposed to be, when you’re supposed to be there. But keep at it, don’t give up and you’ll see your dreams come to fruition. Sidenote: she is now in grad school, and living the life she once dreamed of. You will get there luv bug 💜

This is such a great vlog, thanks for sharing how you were feeling. I'm 40 now, finished a degree when I was like 37 and only then opened my own little shop after a couple of decades of what felt like treading water and being complacant. You're doing absolutely amazingly!!

i think society has trained us to feel like we need to get out shyt together by 20 but thats not how it works, especially in this economy... despite having an art degree and starting to work in my industry at 17, i didnt get a steady job until i was about 26. i lived in a small room at my parents place that entire time. i'm 31 now. i finally have my own place, a livable salary, started drawing again in 2020 and opened an etsy shop about 2 years ago. i also still only get a few orders a month 😅 mind you, you put way more work into your shop than i do, but i think that things like this just take time.... just keep at it. if you continue to do your best and stay earnest, more and more people will grow to want to support you. honestly, i only watch your channel because your enthusiasm is something i wish i had. i'm hoping it rubs off 😅 i'm really rooting for you and i think you're going to be just fine. you have such a strong desire to make this work, that i'm sure you will. so good luck! you got this! and remember, you have time! you have many years left to live after all.

I totally agree! I definitely think this mindset is because of the pressure society puts on us to be perfect by 20 years old and a lot of it to do with the Internet ahah! but I'm trying to change and grow my mindset regardless! Thanks so much for your lovely comment! 💙

I've just stubled across your channel. It's so refreshing to see a creator in a similar stage to me. I just think about it this way, surely if you keep going at it, even growing by just one more view a day, every bit of growth is some extra snow to get the ball rolling and eventually success is inevitable.

Hi, I've been watching you for quite a while and I have the feeling that so many very small businesses try to do it all... cups, cards, stickers, washi tape, t shirts, macramee, scrunshies... like everything under the sun. I think people completely overwhelm themselves instead of focusing on 1 or 2 things and trying to figure those products out first. Everyone is always vlogging their successes... you see it everywhere. But that is not normal - that is not how a small business works. Keep on learning, keep on working on your dream - focus less on goals - try to enjoy the day to day tasks. You are so young with so much time to become the person you want to be - same for your business. Sending you alle the good vibes! You got this 🙂

Keep going on girl. It takes a long time to start to see results. It’s not something that you’ll reach in some months or a year. Think about 3-4 years. It’s a marathon, create a community, work on the quality of your products. With time you’ll see results. I’ll start on january working full time too (I’m 45! Your’ee only 23 it’s the ideal age to start a business, the achievements will arrive in the future, but one it that you’ve started a small business on you ownnnnm) and I I know it will be hard and not fast. Patience! Don’t lose your motivation ❤

A young gardener plants everything for a fast growth - they can't wait. An old gardener plants trees that will long outlive him. You are just suffering from your generation's particular impatience. Check with friends your age, they will probably all be feeling similarly. And, for 2 yrs straight everything stopped, this is affecting you too, feeling time was wasted. And lastly, it generally takes 3-5 attempts to sort a successful business. Give yourself goals and deadlines for measurable outcomes on actionable steps and see how you go. Realistic goals and deadlines that is

You're not a failure! I've just opened my first Etsy shop and your videos are a big inspiration for me, by far my favourite small business vlog. Not only are you really likeable as a person but you always show the reality of building a small business, which a lot of others don't. Seeing somebody currently on the same journey as I am (albeit further ahead than I am) is much more motivating than seeing the end product of a totally "finished" business, if that makes sense. Plus you're only 23! I'm 34 and I would've been very impressed if my 23 year old self could've done what you're doing. Keep it up 🖤

Your doing great building a business is not easy and there's so much competition now so many people have started online businesses in the last 3 years and in the last years or so less people are buying online. My main advice for your shop is research how esty search works and do some work on your seo. Lots of people are living with family for much longer now as rents and house prices are so expensive now. Don't only think about what you have not done, remind yourself of the things you have done.

My dear Abby, I just wanted to tell you that your feelings are completely normal, specially at this time of the year when we feel that we had sufficient time to accomplish whatever we set our goals at the start of the year, I myself had a meltdown talking to my husband and to a friend so I totally get you and I'm on my 30's so seeing you worrying about this things all I'm thinking is I wish I would've have started as early as you and that it take me so long to take the decision to follow my heart and give it a try, my advice which is what I'm planning on doing, is to take a step back and first of all make a list of all the things you have done this past year, how they make you feel and if they actually payed back in any form, satisfaction, revenue, growth etc, this will help you see how much progress you have make and will put things in perspective to cast away a little bit of that failed feelings, the second is to be honest and check what didn't work or where you need to double up efforts and then cut off what you think it's not helping you and expand or try the things you did see helped you or could help, but please do it in a realistic way so you don't burn yourself out, make one thing at a time and wait for results, I believe the hardest part for me has been realising that this things will take time and we need to repeat this to ourselves because when you are putting all this efforts and results aren't showing up fast is easy to get discourage, so practicing patience is also important, finally please get some rest, being tired is also a source of feeling stressed or sad, sometimes a good scheduled resting period can help us to keep our moods or spirits in a good place as well our mindsets! Best of luck next year and take care of yourself!

You're very hard on yourself and you really don't deserve it! This is a really difficult time for small businesses of any kind, especially those which sell non-essential items (I mean, I'm a fairly well paid middle aged adult & I've been making my own birthday cards rather than buying cute ones this year as a way to just trim the budget at the edges - my weekly shopping costs have gone up at least 50%... and I imagine things are worse for your target audience!). You've clearly grown so much and learnt so much over the last few years - and many of the small business blogs I watch & people I know with "side hustles" have taken several years to get traction... You can do this! If it takes a bit longer than you hoped, that's a pain, but it's not a disaster and you're not a failure! You are TRYING to make your dreams happen, and that is SO important!

    • @janeb2958
      @janeb2958 7 місяців тому

And if it doesn't work out, then you will still have learnt SO MUCH and acquired SO MANY SKILLS - you will have had loads of experiences and gained so much knowledge.
I totally understand that "aagh all my friends are further ahead" feeling - I stayed in graduate education after 21 and all my friends were in fancy graduate jobs in big cities or travelling or getting married and getting houses and cars and all that stuff, and I was still a student with no money... and I never did get married so had the same thing even once I started working too, when everyone else was getting married and having kids and all that. But being on a slightly different path isn't a bad thing - being true to yourself matters more for happiness - and you will probalby find you have friends who think YOU are the amazing success story - your courage in going your own way for a start! - making them feel like they are missing out!

Hi Abi! First of all I want to say I really enjoy your videos and look forward to them. I have some constructive criticism that I hope you don't take harshly, I am also an artist and I know how much it can hurt when people kind of comment on our art. I think some of your products are very cute and cool, like the boba pins, however I think some of them fall a little short. The small business market is extremely competitive nowadays and there are so many options. For example, your cup with the snowflakes is maybe not interesting enough to catch buyer's eyes. I think you can reevaluate "what will make my art stand out from competitors". I personally hate that (it's why I don't have a small business lmao), but if your intention is to make sales, I think you could benefit from more interesting and unique designs that people will choose over others. Once again, I really hope you don't take this harshly, I am rooting for you and wish you lots of success!

No offence taken at all! I actually totally agree. Since my art tablet has been breaking, it's been hard to do detailed designs, and I've been slacking on art this year, I've barely drawn at all! Next year, one of my goals is to draw every week and work on my art and to do more detailed designs! More designs with text and stuff, too! I'm really going to push my art for my business, ahah! Thanks so much for the feedback!! It really helps! 😊💙

Try a gratitude journal. It’s a great way for you to put how you were feeling when you did accomplish something. And on the days that you feel like you are a failure. You can look back at those days and realize that you’re actually moving forward. It will provide you the sense of excitement that you need and the momentum that you need to keep going.

Hey letting you know the economy is dieing in America. We're dealing with stagnant wages, crazy rent prices, high inflation including food, and student loans started back in Oct after not having them on a nation wide pause since 2020. Things are tight financially. I want to buy ur stuff but it's going to have to wait. 😢 I want to send my besty some stuff but gotta pay my car loan first which is $520. You also have a lot of composition from other influencers doing their drops at the moment and a lot of you viewers are from the same viewer pool as them.
