    I am going to take the guess as to why the game sucked up all the power of your hardware is the fact that every map, asset, trigger, notes, and effects are all loaded at once. So while playing, the computer has to process the ending area when you first start and when you get to the end area, your computer is still processing the beginning area. Just a guess.

    • @lucidnonsense942
      @lucidnonsense942 Рік тому +12

      It's the same reason New World melted GPUs. Many engines, Unity is the worst for it, will draw an insane amount of frames when paused in menu, unless you put in a frame limiter. Percentage used just shows that ONE part of the GPU is capped out - even though most of the silicon is sitting idle. However, that render pipeline is trying to go as fast as it can, drawing more and more power, at this stage you'd have heard really bad coil whine as the MOSFETs slam on and off at an insane frequency, making the magnetic fields in the coils collapse and build up at resonance.
      It catches out experience Devs too - Surviving the Abyss murdered cards in the early builds.

      If you have enough RAM, loading things isn't a problem. But if you don't stop processing on invisible AI agents, that can eat some CPU time easily. I also wonder if there isn't some optimization work to be done on the graphics too.

    Im just guessing here, but i think the blue babies chasing you is the womans regret at drowning her own babies, as evidenced by the blue baby coming out of the bath. the fish in that room probably also symbolizes the horrible smell of death, as in she kept the dead baby long enough for it to start smelling bad, turning blue beforehand, because it was decomposing.
    then the whole father thing, as someone else here mentioned, was likely because in their culture getting pregnant before marriage is VERY shameful.
    she left her home and family when she got pregnant out of wedlock, and that is a very inhuman way to treat family when they have something like that happen to them.
    then the thing coming from the void to defend here was showing that she had a bigger role to play in society, and even though she had "messed up" in the families eyes, it isn't actually a screw up and helped to progress her maturity.
    then that girl that chases you around is likely a daughter she had that she didn't kill, but the fact that she has that daughter still is killing her in other ways.
    at the credits, she THOUGHT she found a way out, but that way didn't turn out the way she wanted.
    the axe and saw being needed to get through doorways probably symbolized the fact that she had to work to get to the next chapters of her life, so while not huge obstacles compared to the other stuff, it was still work that she needed to do.
    the horror of the game comes from so many directions.
    i think the translation issues makes it really hard to understand the story thats going on. which is unfortuante if ANY of what i saw in that was even remotely close to what it was actually trying to talk about/say.
    theres a lot more of course, as there was a LOT in that game to unpack, but i will leave it at that. maybe someone who knows more than i do can figure out more about this one.

    It's surprising how many indie games, especially indie horror games, are actually interesting (though not necessarily good) games when they don't copy other major franchises, a la all the awful PT clones that spawned after the demo had been released. This obviously takes a lot of inspiration from Chinese mythology and I feel if we knew a bit more about the mythology and the game itself was translated better, the story would be a lot more cohesive. As a mandarin speaker myself, I feel like the main problem about the story of the game is the translation, I think maybe as a person who speaks the language and understand Chinese culture can better understand and immerse in the story? I personally didn't play this game, but I think it is a problem with indie horror games like this.
    Although I live in Taiwan, but honestly I don't see the story of this game have anything to do with traditional Chinese culture, so maybe this is a Chinese thing idk.

    • @linksbetweendrinks7032
      @linksbetweendrinks7032 Рік тому +18

      Chinese culture has really danced around the idea of women being endowed with personhood for centuries. Some women held immense power at times, such as Lady Wu. Some fathers doted on their daughters, teaching them to read and write. On the other hand, that was generally an offense that said father could be executed for.
      The strange dichotomy of it is; women in China for most of history had to be extremely clever, but not outwardly so, to navigate brutal standards of just existing. Many, many men with little wit or capability wielded power with little to no effort.
      That applies mostly to the noble class, the dynamic has differences in the peasant class! Ancient Chin is a fascinating, and often depressing, culture to study.
