I always laugh when I see the "Launching Steam VR" thing as it was annoying for my first few projects in Unreal, then I realized it's literally a single check box in the setting that you can turn off before packaging the game.
I am going to take the guess as to why the game sucked up all the power of your hardware is the fact that every map, asset, trigger, notes, and effects are all loaded at once. So while playing, the computer has to process the ending area when you first start and when you get to the end area, your computer is still processing the beginning area. Just a guess.
The game seems pretty amateurish in general (not trying to drag the developer, everyone starts somewhere), so I would be surprised if that's the only example of poor optimization happening.
It's the same reason New World melted GPUs. Many engines, Unity is the worst for it, will draw an insane amount of frames when paused in menu, unless you put in a frame limiter. Percentage used just shows that ONE part of the GPU is capped out - even though most of the silicon is sitting idle. However, that render pipeline is trying to go as fast as it can, drawing more and more power, at this stage you'd have heard really bad coil whine as the MOSFETs slam on and off at an insane frequency, making the magnetic fields in the coils collapse and build up at resonance. It catches out experience Devs too - Surviving the Abyss murdered cards in the early builds.
If you have enough RAM, loading things isn't a problem. But if you don't stop processing on invisible AI agents, that can eat some CPU time easily. I also wonder if there isn't some optimization work to be done on the graphics too.

Thank you for this spooky content heading into the awkward, post-Halloween-pre-Thanksgiving era. It fills the void
It's stuff like the pool puzzles that make me think that this game was in the works for a very, very long time, it gets better as it goes on since the developer got more familiar with the basics of game design, it's actually pretty interesting.
Your deadpan live commentary is so funny. [something absurd happens] "Okay. Yeah...oh. Whoa. Okay. Wow."
It looks like the dev was playing with a lot of different design elements, and kudos to them, everyone has to start somewhere.
To be fair to this game, it actually creates some completely effective moments of suspense, creepiness, the stuff you want in a horror game.
26:32 lmao that ghost girl model is the exact same one from the game Pacify just reskinned slightly
"I've gotta go out the room now, and it leads to something scary" and I get an ad for Ireland
I've watched a few of your videos and enjoyed them. It's great that titles can get attention which usually get drowned out by the sea of games now. Even if they are mostly bad, most games manage to do one or two things right. Sometimes you can find some really inventive mechanics or story ideas.
this might be a parody of a game called "layers of fear", the wine bottles and scene with the piano and floating objects really sold that for me
that Nuke reference at 10:17 got me giggling
Despite this games many flaws, I think it does have some potentially cool moments.
Do you like Jessie Gender?
“Seduction!” It always cracks me up.
it's the first time I ever heard a british man say sinuca, and that's amazing... also, damn, this game might be one of the funniest things I've ever seen, why the heck does most people give it bad reviews, your channel keep making me wanna spend money, damn
That closeup of the dad speaking, just screams Oblivion to me.
It looks like some objects are borrowed from "What Remains of Edith Finch", the owl totem, the burnt house, the photo camera, probably some furniture.
Watching this again a year later the whole baby thing was so funny.
2:20 2 minutes in and I think Wicked's favorite part of the game was the POV 😅
23:50 _"Fish everywhere?"_
1:25 reminded me of what i do with car doors in the long drive lol
26:32 lol they lifted audio from World of Warcraft. In order is the sound of a Ghoul/Wight dying, female gnome getting hit, the third I don't recognize but final is the Harpy Death.
That opening mechanic really makes me think the game might've been VR but the VR handling wasn't implemented correctly.
The Nukes Top 5 bit was pretty funny!
*Jumpscare*
>Looks down
*What is it with this game and exploding things*
>Looks down
*A lot of juices around here*
>Looks down
I'm extremely easily startled so I keep bracing myself for the jumpscares and they have all been incredibly funny.
When you said you only had 10k subs I spit my drink out and said "ONLY 10K?"
Seriously, you deserve more. Your quality is on tier with multi-million sub channels.
I am now subscribed.
His main channel is WickedWiz.
Thats not a gnome
Thats a dwarf from snowwhite
When you got an axe, you gain axe-cess to new area.
I greatly enjoyed your 'Worst Game On Steam?' episodes and have just subscribed. I hope you enjoy making them as much as we enjoy watching them and I look forward to more. Thanks.
Seduction!! Funny stuff. Love what you do buddy, great videos. Keep killing it.
Bro, I almost chocked my food when you mentioned Nuke's top 5 10:17 😂
“Seduction!”
Boi, this is one of those channels that's gonna blow up suddenly! 👌✨
24:55 I didn't know "courgette" was anything but a font face,
but this vegetable is also known as zucchini in the US, and in Norway we call it a squash.
3:35 Alright now, as someone who watches so many bad horror games I gotta say, far from the worst 2D PNG Jumpscare! I mean hell they even animated it a little to bloop around. Also, didn't have an obnoxiously loud and overused sound effect.
As a Nukes Top 5 subscriber, I very much enjoyed that little sight gag 👌
More 10 games like these and he will be the next big indie horror game developer. Experience shapes progress. I see potential, aside the exposition in the notes (wich i hate) and awkward pacing, the ideas and creativity are good. Also, great asset use.
it's funny to see how in this vid 10 months ago you were celebrating 10k subs and at the time of writing it's 111k. keep up the good work, mate. Your channel has exploded, now it's up to you to keep the momentum. much love
I've turned myself into a courgette, Morty. I'm Courgette Rick!
That Gnome looks like one of the Dwarves out of disneys snow white actually
Honestly the part with the levitating objects was kinda cool, especially with the music
3:36 Aww hell naw, not the GMod PNG Jumpscare.
3:32 I genuinely thought that guy just edited that into the video, but no, that's actually a jump scare in the game.
It would be truly diabolical if they used the crappy jumpscares to lull you into a false sense of security and then hit you with a legitimately "good" one
Multitasking can cause one brain to overload and experiencing panic. This game provide us with that experience where most of indie horroe would only rely on cheap audio tactic.
Manboobz player character, blue baby enemies, chinesse story, robo translated chinglish, cheezy horror. This really is a rollercoaster, just anything but good.
