@heksje69 I'm simply stating that it doesn't have the original Duran Duran sound. It's not in any way organized. Just pure chaos and no rhythm. I love the band, but this was a horrible time for them. I think John realized that, which is why he left. His departure was due partially because of his drug use and his marital situation, but for the most part, John didn't feel that it was sounding like Duran Duran anymore. He even considered leaving after Liberty, but was held back by the success of
@DelayInBlo.ck Why could that be...anything to do with the fact there are no trains? Talk about chaos...gosh. If you dislike the song that's okay (It's John by the way, with Simon in the chorus) to each his own. It's the demo that turned into "Be my Icon" and there is absolutely no chaos here. You don't know Duran Duran as well as you think if this doesn't sound like them to you...just saying
@heksje69 By the way, I'm only 15...Goodness. You'd think Duranies would have some appreciation for younger fans. Obviously you don't. Have a good one.
@heksje69 And, I think John sound's fine in this recording. It just isn't classic Duran. I mean, just look at AYNIN. It's got classic Duran written ALL over it. But, with that modernistic feel to it as well. This is none of that.
Disagree about AYNIN but otherwise I agree. This track is bloody awful. So it's been 5 years...Still a fan? Cool that you were a fan at 15. It takes something special to like music from the past at that age I would imagine.
@DelayInBlock For someone who is just 15 you think you know a hell of a lot about DD...or music in general for that matter. I for one have been a fan for over 30 yrs...that's twice your age. You don't know anything about the world yet honey, nor what the real Duran Duran sound is. Do not presume you know everything there is to know about the reasons of why John left, none of us, besides the man himself knows for sure, rememer not everything is public knowledge.
I have been a fan since 1984/85. I think Delay In Block Productions was correct. This music is terrible. Duran Duran have produced a lot of shit the last 25 years and a few gems, like Salt in the rainbow etc....Astronaut album was tolerable but not very Duran Duran.
John said why he quit DD in his book and in interviews at the times. He said it was due to wanting to be clean and sober and it became a matter of life and death for him. Also, he felt that 5he songs they did together started to be Simon's stories and JT wanted to be able to tell his stories and that's what he did!
I dislike this song................and what it became. Doesn't sound anything like Duran Duran. Just pure chaos. Who is even singing this? Warren? John?
Be My Icon is one of my favs, and I am so happy that I love this too!
The Medazzaland period was extremely under-rated. This is amazing, such power in this!!
I love this track as well as the album version "Be my Icon" on the insanely awesome Medazzaland album.
LOVE the timbre to JTs voice (sO sexy) and as long as he stays in his range, he sounds awesome. The first 3mins of this track are fab!
aweSome. Love John on vocals.
John is clearly singing this, if you have listened to his solo stuff.
Louise Sarah Absolutely it's John singing.
Be my icon,is the original song .... but JT has got this in the bag.
And yes its JT
And yes the original song the music is from Be my Icon
Love this. So raw and full of emotion. It sucks they re-did it without John as this one is way better.
Yup. He quit the band during recording of Medazzaland (which happens to be one of my favourite DD albums).
Without John in DD it's like doing Journey without Steve Perry. It just doesn't work...
@@JOHNNYSGIRL1960🤡
Love to hear this on stage..
WOOOOOW this is best than the final version.
this is the music for "Be my Icon" but different lyrics from Medazzaland
wow j t you sound frigging awesome ,never heard this before ,really different .le bon girl 71 xx
What’s great about DD is the diversity in the sound ... at the same time the guitar sound links back to the beginning “ friends of mine” ...
Wow never heard this before :D

I always preferred the album tracks over the singles and this is like a time machine...especially the Friends of Mine demo
this is so cool they need to rerecord this and add to there new album they are working on
Just Mesmerising.
How come I missed this?

Isnt it Nick. Sounds more like nick well at least on the medazaland.
i thought it was an ai generated version, but saw it was posted in 2009
9 1/2 weeks rejected track?
Nope, different version of "Be My Icon" from Medazzaland

John doing speech, Simon singing.
Duran Duran’s least appealing era...they’re just lost and directionless after Wedding Album until Astronaut.
I would cautiously agree... they were adrift after the misguided Thank You. Medazzaland was kind of the only bright spot post Wedding Album.
To think that (some of) these guys did Lonely in your nightmare, New Religion etc and now create this utter crap !
