My parents told me about St Bernadette when I was younger . She gives me strength . Diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer over two years ago and not expected to live . Had my thumb amputated . I work as much as I am able and try to muffle my screams from a detached hip .St Bernadette is my Inspiration . Far from going through the trials she has . Prayer for me St Bernadette .
A true saint this movie shows first time I saw in 70s the tears still flow at 54 ,45 yrs later still proves humility is unsung hero and under rated trait in a real leader we don't have today in this world.
A most wonderful film, always has me quietly in tears. As an avowed agnostic, I don't know how to reconcile my dismissal of a compassionate God with the fact that I felt compelled to visit Lourdes over 30 years ago, and intend visiting again before I eventually discover the reality of my dilemma
Very moving, that scene of Sr. Marie Therese' when Bernadette shows her her affliction. This was that nun's epiphany and helped her learn true humility. Very beautiful.
The director choose to show us the horror of Bernadette's affliction in the face and eyes of the doubting nun...much more powerful than showing it imo.
There's only two scenes in old movies that have ever made me cry. One is this scene, where the old bitter nun has her epiphany, realizing Bernadette is a true saint, and that she, the old nun, has been a trifling bitch. The other scene is in "Going My Way" where Father O'Malley (played by Bing Crosby) brings about a surprise visit for his priest friend, secretly shipping his friend's ninety-year-old mother from Ireland over to America for a visit, mother & son not having been together for ages.
This is the most powerful scene in the whole movie IMO. It’s up there with the scene in Ben Hur when Jesus gives Ben Hur water and stares down the centurion.
Blessed are those who have not seen, yet have believed. And Faith is belief not by sight. That's in Corinthians. Perhaps read some Paul, Sister. The nun who persecuted Bernadette. Bernadette could have been Sister Paula, because she like Paul, was persecuted.

A classic film
I cry every time I see that scene with the nun carrying sick Bernadette. So powerful!

Indeed. The bitter and hateful old woman becomes beautiful and loving because she finally lets God into her heart.
Jennifer Jones and Gladys Cooper were both nominated for Oscars for these performances, and deservedly so. Jennifer Jones won.
a very powerful message in this scene
God bless you. I wish you well on your spiritual journey and may we all walk with Christ!
Saint Bernadette is an inspiration to the world.
I can relate to "the spring is not for me" in the midst of depression it comes to me. The spring is not for me. The spring is not for me.
all time favorite! thanks for posting.

In the book the tumor on her knee was 'large as a baby's head'.

Very true and touching me alot ...mama mary pls forgive me for my sin .
The spring is not for me, because the lady told me that I can not promise you the happinest in this world only the next

Yes it is......but this one is real not fiction like Ben Hur
"The spring is not for me." Sure can relate to that line
Un cast di attori stupefacenti...ma il viso di Gladys Cooper...e' qualcosa che ti fa stare male...recitazione sublimata all'ennesima potenza

3:16
Insanity
Jealousy is a horrible sin as shown by this psychotic nun
No wonder why so many leave Catholic Church
We are love because god is love
