What u call strain sometimes on Rihanna is literally done on purpose. I don’t know how qualified u are to critique vocals (not being sarcastic, just honestly don’t know) but sometimes it’s just vocal fry/distortion. Especially on an intentional voice break, Rihanna does that a lot
Yeah, it feels like Rihanna’s range changed as she got older. I’m guessing smoking and stuff had a lot to do with it. Also she changed her style of singing. And when she did that, her abilities seemed to change as well.

Riri is a mix, sometimes it's raw emotional vocal, but mostly the attitudes that she always brings. Also she likes to layer her vocal like Ariana and Beyonce.
Taylor IS pushing her limits. In her newer albums like folklore and evermore, she hits some really low notes which you may not notice at first, but they're hard to hit (look at her exile performance at the Long Pond Studio Sessions and her notes in her song Champagne Problems for reference). Also, her vocals during her Reputation era/tour were a HUGE improvement from her previous eras. Also, in a performance of her song change (back in maybe 210 or 2011) she holds a note for 15 seconds which is NOT easy.
