This man should be called the "reviver" since he almost single handedly cast actors that Hollywood threw away or forgot about, like Mickey Rourke for the Wrestler and now Brendan. I am so happy that Brendan is acting again and getting some recognition. ❤
Hugh Jackman in The Fountain .. Jered Letto in Requiem For A Dream..
Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman in Black Swan..
Tarantino has been doing that also for years to be fair...John Travolta, Robert Forster, Michael Keaton, Daryl Hannah, Pam Grier, David Carradine...
@@srd911 Tarantino is using big names in his movies… just like Scorsese… not Aranovsky… he sees beyond fame…
@Viorica Cosmetics no, I know and realise that...I'm probably even more of a fan of Aranofsky than Tarantino...my point being (and in response to the original comment) is that Tarantino has been resurrecting peoples careers for years.
lets just hope Brendan doesnt get robed like Mickey was...
I’m telling you, Darren Aronofsky looks like Christian Bale playing Steve Jobs
woah.
Totally!!!
I see more of Stanley Tucci
No way 😭🤣🤣🤣🤣
My first thought when I saw the thumbnail without reading the tittle lmao
I honestly can't remember a time when SO MANY PEOPLE got together to love and support a person.
Brendan deserves every good thing that happens to him in the future.
Btw i saw the movie yesterday. I hope they give him 10 oscars. If not, i'll just stop believing in humanity.
What an actor for gods sake
I have heard that Brendan won’t accept the Oscar because of his abuse . I hope Brendan will rock the Hollywood again .
@@bkalkan7493 You're confused, like all of Fraser's fans. That was the Golden Globe. They wasted that nomination on him.
i hope that brendan could see some of this comments
@@nenad-seguljev He can, but he's an oscar awarded actor, he just wont
I really hope Brendan wins this. Austin will get other chances to win he’s young, vigorous and in his prime. Brendan needs this and we as an audience need him to win. I just feel like this is important.
Why you need it?
@@MachineHead783 We
Austin sucks
@MIKES MOVIE CORNER AND RANTS 100%
One played a pedophile the other didn't. They may have an effect.
Brendan holds a place in our hearts because he grew up with us and/or our kids. We've missed him! Thank you so much for bringing him back to us, now if we can just treat him well enough to keep him.
All of you must have terrible googling skills. He doesn't have a single year missing from his IMDb. People who care actually look for people who are (supposedly) missing.
That last line " I need to know that I did one thing right in my life.. " got me all teary and 😢. On another note, the way Darrren Aronofsky laughs and giggles is just so pure and honest, much like his approach to Directoring and casting, lead by Brendan Fraser. Bravo- The Whale is a masterpiece!
I just woke up to this, haven't even finished my coffee yet, and I've rewinded that scene some 5-6 times and cried like it was my first. I need to see this movie ASAP!
Darren is one of those directors who understands the potential in actors. He always takes a chance with his casting choices. Aside from jumpstarting Brendan’s career again, he cast Mickey rourke in the wrestler and that restarted his career too. Hollywood loves a good comeback story and Brendan poured his heart out for this movie, and I think Hollywood should reward him for all the years they ignored him because in the 90s he was a jack of all trades and he proves that he’s still brilliant actor when given the chance.
Aronofsky makes low budget movies. He can't afford good actors. And sane ones don't want to work with him.
@@ifyouonlyknew811 as if Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Connelli, Jared Leto, etc are low budget actors? Pls lmao he’s a legend.
@@atarapister3548
LEGEND. 1. : a story from the past that is believed by many people but cannot be proved to be true.
How many people can say they don't get instantly taken by Brendan's "I need to know one good thing I have done with my life." line. Even if you haven't messed up hard, the damn emotion just hits you. If he doesn't win best Actor I riot lol
Get ready for Colin Farrell to possibly win lol
Austin Butler did good but if he beats out Colin or Brendan...nope
When you understand the context more in depth, that line is devastating.
I thought Brendan had it in the bag. But, I just saw aftersun. Dude, I think that mescal dude is going to get it.
I hope he gets the win but knowing wht the Oscar's are I doubt he will I mean Stallone shouldve won for creed and jim shouldve won for man on the moon and the Truman show but that didnt happen I stopped watching the Oscars a long time ago lost respect for it
Jimmy is actually doing an interview here. It seems like Darren's "This is my first talk show ever" activated his good host skills.
He really knows how to get the beet out of the lead roles... Brendan in the whale, Portman in the black swan, Rourke in the wrestler and my personal favorite Jackman in The Fountain
Beet
Jackman in the fountain is such an underrated movie
Black Swan, Requiem for a dream, The wrestler & The whale that movie was incredible! This man is sooo good!
You gotta watch THE FOUNTAIN, possibly his best 🎉
lol would never have expected Darren Aronofsky on Fallon's show, but here we are. The movie is fantastic btw.
I’m so ready to see this film. I can already tell Brendan is giving an Oscar worthy performance. The film to start my year with.
i’ve seen it three times already and it’s amazing! see it on the biggest screen you can
@jakepena203 same saw it twice might go for 3
It’s a great movie.
Saw it twice it’s epic
Bring tissues
5:57 I thought everyone was exagerrating when they said Brendan killed it with that line....hell no! He pulled it off and I got goosebumbs hearing him say that
It’s not that people ‘loved’ Brendan, we LOVE him. He is a fantastic actor, a humble man, and so much fun to watch in movies.
For anyone wondering which Brazilian film Brendan made is called "12 horas até o amanhecer"
Darren Aronofsky did the same with Mickey Rourke in the Wrestler which is a 10/10 film
I love all of Aronofsky’s films, he is a truly brilliant writer and director in this era of time we are in
*Bong Joon-ho*
*Denis Villeneuve*
*Darren Aronofsky*
So great to see Jimmy getting such great directors on a talk show. It needs to happen more
He had Guillermo Del Toro on the show a few weeks ago too!
Atom Egoyan, James "Jim" Cameron, Sarah Polley, Hirokazu Koreeda...
Uwe Boll
they don’t get the money to make these movies if they don’t do the talk show circuit lol
Agreed. Not box-office hype - but all of them created films incur massive screen burn on the mind with their imagery and story-telling expertise.
This man has made some of the best films ever made and managed to have never been on a talkshow?! Man of many talents...
Maybe he is just not a "celebrity" type director. He has always had a consistent independent spirit since the time he made Pi.
Aronfsky is my alltime favorite. I was hooked to his movies when I first saw Pi. I still think Pi and The Fountain are the best movies ever made.
just that one scene alone is enough to bring tears to your eyes, brendan's porttrayal is breath taking
Let the light of Brendan Fraser shine out! He needs his time in the sun again and I’m here for it!
He sunburns, and then he'll whine about that.
That scene at the end breaks my heart and brings tears every time I see it💔👏👏👏👏👏❤️ Brendan Fraser, You are the best!!!
When you can tell 99% of the audience hasn't seen Pi.
They thought it was "Life of Pi"
Who cares? People can watch, or not watch, whatever they want. Get off your high horse and stop judging.
Maybe they didn't like it.
@@Alex-nk6sy I think it was kind of like beets. People either love them or hate them - no happy medium.
I saw Requim for a Dream. Great film which you cannot watch for the second time.
One of the top directors of our time. Mother!, The Fountain and Pi are masterpieces.
One of my favorite directors. He's the kind of director that always puts out something worth watching. Requiem for a Dream is still my all time favorite of his.
Great director, modest, without any arrogance what so ever.
I'm sending my screenplay to him. Definitely.)
The Whale changed my life! I couldn't be more grateful to this man. He's my favorite director!
Brendan Fraser deserves an Oscar for his outstanding acting ability.
Almost everyone in the comments section is Brendan this, Brendan that, and granted, he's amazing in the movie and I'm glad he's having a comeback... BUUUUT, can we talk about Darren freakin' Aronofsky, director of some of the most profound, shocking and drop-your-jaw-to-the-floor movies ever made?
That was scene was quick in making me cry. I can kind of imagine how good the movie must be.
As much as I enjoy his films, the fact that he references ‘Kings Plaza’ makes this Brooklyn boy real proud.
First late night interview? Holy wowza. I haven't seen the film yet and I can't wait to see it.
Brendan deserves more movies, appreciation, etc. And bless this guy for helping launch back. Brendan.helped propel the Rock, now someone needs to help Fraiser. He was exactly what Hollywood needed. A shot of humanity.
He doesn't deserve the industry's help. He needs to go back to his padded room.
Not enough people realise what for a genius this man is.
I have not clicked on a YT video any faster than this. What a rare talk show appearance from D Aronofsky!
The Whale is a masterpiece in my book, Brendan and Sadie's performances were phenomenal and Aronofsky's direction was excellent as always.
5 Seconds of that movie and I am already nearly crying... Wow
Darren Aronofsky latest film the whale is gonna be good like he did with black swan and the fountain
my god..goosebumps while watching the sneak peak..Brendan is incredible
Jesus Christ. I haven’t seen that clip before. I’m gonna have to watch this movie by myself. 🥺
Brendan is still my favorite. Happy he’s getting the accolades that he deserves. Congrats Brendan!
Really though, yesterday some douche was writing in the comments how Jimmy feigns interest in his guests' projects. It's a thing of beauty to watch Jimmy work. To help Darren out with a summary of the movie without offering a quip at darren's expense, which would without a doubt be Jimmy Kimmel 's response, shows how big a heart Jimmy has. I always love Jimmy Fallon. I can't tell you how comforting it is to see Jimmy's kindness in action, except maybe that it nourishes my soul.
Omg, I really can’t wait until I’m in a better place so that I can watch this movie. Seeing just that one clip makes me know that I’ll bawl my eyes out uncontrollably. I can’t handle it rn
Like many others, I've seen practically all of Brendan Fraser's early work, multiple times: Encino Man, Airheads, George of the Jungle......But the films that are most notable to me on his resume are The Mummy 1 and 2. Those movies tested him physically, all the while demonstrating great acting range. I hear nothing but great things about The Whale. I may watch it. But I'll always feel that his best work can be seen in The Mummy 1 and 2.
My Favorite Director EVER!!! I adore all his movies!!!!
Thank you for casting our 80s 90s favorite!!
Now I don't feel so bad about loosing it at the theater for the Whale. Darren made me cry!
Brendan better wins the Oscar. The movie is not out here yet, but from all the snippets I've seen he acts the heck out of his competition.
Wow, what a powerful scene. Incredibly underrated director.
He’s definitely not underrated. Those who know, know.
@@Abby-ll5yw Exactly. He is not underrated, only really not a mainstream director. He makes movies with a really special atmosphere.
Not at all underrated
HAHA!! Underrated, but with a sold back catalog. Perfect example of a twenty year overnight sensation.
@Liquid by saying he's "not a mainstream director" you're essentially saying he's underrated. The man creates incredible films but most people don't know his name.
The Whale is now one of my all-time favorite movies. I sobbed! And I am not a crier! Bravo to Aronofsky and to Brendan Fraser!
Every new movie Darren does just keeps getting better.
Yesterday, I saw the whale, and I found it a truly masterpiece. Frankly, I couldn't hold back tears while seeing the film, it's arguably Brendan Fraser's return who was disappeared for a long period of time. Besides, if there's anybody who deserves to win the Oscar, it's him. So, thank you Darren for casting him to play the starring role.
He only disappeared if you weren't paying attention, or were living on a deserted island. IMDb!
I never stopped crying when a film moves me. In the theater or at home. I just let it rip.
This is his first Talk Show interview?! Wow. I figured he'd have done something back in 2010 when he struck it big with Black Swan.
As far as my favorite of his work? It's a toss up between The Fountain and The Wrestler.
One the best directors nowadays. Haven’t seen “The Whale”, but I cried my ass off in “Aftersun”. I haven’t done that since “The Notebook”.
Yea this is THE scene that is Oscar worthy alone by itself. When i saw this movie it hit right in the feels. 😔
I love Darren! He's absolutely one of my favorite directors!
The fountain movie and soundtrack are a masterpiece
I've seen that scene so many times, haven't seen the movie yet, and it still brings that tear. I almost don't want to see it, i don't feel like crying for 2 hours lol
But it's cathartic... It's therapy..lol and you will feel better after
I cried.
Current 30 year olds love this man. Hes part of our youth. Bedazzled, George, Mummy..... i dont wanna live without them.
Darrens films are always interesting and this one seems the most human a movie could be.
If Steve Jobs and Saul Goodman had a love child it would be Darren Aronofsky!
Pi had such an impact on my life. Just before seeing it I went out and bought my first IDM CD: Aphex Twin - Druqs. What a day, and what a way to enter the world of experimental.
Brendan was, is and will be always an amazing, humble actor!
He sounds exactly like Ray Romano.
He sounded more like Harold Ramis to me, lol.
he's one of the most interesting directors alive, all his movies are iconic
Just a few seconds of the clip that they showed made me cry...
He seems way more well adjusted than I'd expect from an auter known for depressing his audience. Amazing to see him discuss his history though. Been a huge fan of his for a long time.
Funny how literally everyone trashed Mother! and called it "pretentious" when it came out and how Arronofsky likes to make "controversial" films, and now everybody praises the crew, the actors, and especially the director. Boy how people forget! You either trust a director's vision with every film he makes (Scorsese), or just forget about him. Arronofsky is one of the greats, right up there together with Fincher, Villeneuve and Tarantino.
min 0:32 "Film I wanted to see was sold out...." Only three possible choices for Aug 1986 : 1) Top Gun 2) James Cameron's Aliens 3) Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Whale was the best movie of last year hands down. Fraser's performance in that film was absolutely ELITE!!
Jimmy: "Sad, but funny too."
Scene: *punches through heart*
Brendan Fraser is going to win the Oscar! mark my words...
Yeah, he seems to have it in the bag. No one can rival him.
@@PiCheZvara right? and what a major come back!!
@@santelaneal5374 absolutely. deserved one too, they held him down for too long.
We know 🤣🤷🏻♂️
Lol no shit
"The Whale" will come out in theaters in my country until mid February and I can't wait to see it for 2 main reasons:
1- Brendan is one of the ambassadors of my childhood, and now being aware of the amount of shit he has gone through all these years just pains me. He deserves all the praise he is currently getting.
2- I kinda have the feeling this movie will destroy me like other movies have done in the past (like "The Green Mile", "I am Sam" or even "Edward Scissorhands") so, that brings me both anxiety and expectation.
Can't wait.
That clip already made me wanna cry!
Boy, just that clip got me. Fantastic and inspiring
Darren is Brilliant.
I'm coming from the future to tell you guys Brandan Fraser got the Oscars!
Brendan will will oscar for best actor
Brendan Fraser: in Darren we trust!
The Whale made me cy 3 times. Very rare for a movie specially at the theater.
I love Darren aronofsky’s films. I love requiem for a dream and black swan
Brendan better win that Oscar!
Your vision is unique,tnx♥️🙏
"someone from brooklyn can do something in this world" dude like common you cant say that. Living in one of the cities with most opportunities in the world
Yesssss Darren Aronofsky directed one of my favorite comedies of all time which is Requiem For A Dream, i recommend this film for the family, it's 100 times better than Ace Ventura and Billy Madison
One of the best directors out there. His movies are always fascinating and bring out some of the best and the most memorable performances. Just look at Ellen Burstyn, Mickey Rourke, Natalie Portman and now Brendan Fraser. All career-best (so far) performances in Aronofsky's movies. I think any actors who need a knock-out role should just do a movie with Darren.
"people don't cry anymore"
I certainly didn't get the memo, I cry everytime.
He is such an incredible director I mean Black Swan! thats my personal favorite buy he is great!
Darren is one of the best directors of his generation
He is a very smooth talker, how come it’s his first talk show????
Brendan Fraser was the perfect actor for this role ❤
This world has become so small. To even breathe air AND type about someone else who hasn't paid dues to compete with Brendan. To come here and see the director is a humble Brooklyn kid. Man life is something else.
It is crazy no one talks about how this director looks like Steve Jobs?
Mr Aaronofsky, you made me cry
Oh man even that short clip got me 😢
Love love love his work.
"People don't cry in movies anymore"...
bruh... 😂 Couldn't disagree more.
Goddamn, just that clips they showed of the movie was enough for me to know that I absolutely will cry if I watch it
