    do you need to make a ceramic mold from this clay mold and if not how many times can the clay mold be used ?

      I make the mold from a regular clay body and fire it to bisque. If you keep the mold coated with a release agent it should last a long time.

    Can you make a whoppdo with a kitchen oven clay? Or would it not be strong enough, asking bc I used to do ceramic and stained glass never fused. Just getting into it. Lol

      Melissa, the clay used to make a mold will have to stand at least cone 06 temps. Glass starts to melt at around 1200 degrees F.

      Capt Mike so I guess that is a no ,on making me one, do you know where I can buy clay. ? Seems I have two ceramic shops here but they don’t fire anything, they buy their bisque from , oh they don’t really have a place. Crazy right. Like how are they in. Business?

      @@mellisasouza908 it's not that I wound't make you one, but they are so hard to box and ship. Usually the shipping runs more that the cost of the mold. You can buy clay online. Just start here: www.amazon.com/Pottery-Clay-White-Rocky-Mountain/dp/B06WGQ3GJJ/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=clay&qid=1583966762&sr=8-6

    Hi Captain Mike, first off, thank you for your videos. They have taught me a lot! I would like to purchase one of your Whoop De Do molds, but I do not have a facebook account (and do not want one). Is there a way to get one without having to have facebook? Is there an email I can contact you at?

    • @CaptMike
      @CaptMike  3 роки тому

      I would rather you to make one yourself as the postage usually ends up more than the cost of the mold. Do you have access to a clay body? If so I can walk you through making one. If not, You can contact me on facebook messanger without havuing to be a member, Try this address facebook.com/michael.d.blackston

      @@CaptMike I used to do pottery in college and so I am familiar with stoneware and porcelain clay. I just don't know how I would fire the clay properly with just a 120v glass kiln. Is there a different kind of clay to use that would fire right in a glass kiln?

    • @CaptMike
      @CaptMike  3 роки тому

      @@winterwhitechocolate The difference is in the clay ultimate maturity rare, All clays bisque to about cone 4 That alows the clay to transfform in to a solid unperiable state, but still be porous enough to accept he glazes. No since the clay is a mid to high fire glaze, the clay body can withstand the exrtra temps necessarty to bring thr mid to high fire clay to msturity, Now the question seems ro be can you fire mid to high fire glazes in a glass kiln, My glass kiln will only reach 1700 f with out a little tweeking. 1700F will work fine for most of of the low fire glazes and Duncan crystasly glazes seem to work perfrct. All I can say is test, test, test. You might be supprised, Let me know how it works out for you,

    Hi Capt Mike! Do you sell your molds? I would like to buy one, my kiln shelf is 13 “ round. Skutt. Maybe 8 x 10 ? Thank you, Patricia Peterson 12/10/20

    • @CaptMike
      @CaptMike  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Patricia, most of my molds are 16" long & 6" wide. I have one that I might could make fit. If your kiln shelf is round, could you tell me what the diameter is? The one I could cut down would be 12 inches x 6inches wide. It would have about 4 humps in it.
