He is too far away from the bank face, the boom is to high, and he is always reaching for the material. He can go through the motions, but he wouldn’t be able to keep a fleet of trucks moving.
Actually, the boom is at the correct angle - if you look carefully, there is a piece of square bar welded to the boom just below the shipper shaft - when that is set horizontal, which it is, then that’s the correct boom angle for normal work. Your comment about being too far away from the bank would be correct, but the bank slips on occasions, and can make it difficult for the operator, when it does . . . . We are only doing it for fun, not for profit, which is why the engine is running just above idle - diesel fuel is rather expensive in the UK !
@@steveallarton98 Hi Steve, the boom angle on a shovel was determined by the highest truck you were loading. The lower the boom the more mechanical advantage you had in the digging part of the cycle.
