Thanks so much for this. I couldn't work out why I couldn't replace the sidecover on my 435 after cleaning but realised it was because of the brake being on. Seeing this viseo showed me how to release the brake. It saved me a lot of heartache.... thanks a lot.

Thank you. I couldn't get my cover back on because of the brake. I didn't know about releasing it the way you did. You saved me so much time and aggravation. What a great video!

I watched this video a couple of days too late. I didn’t need to replace my Husqvarna 440’s brake band, but rather the plastic brake cover and triangular wear protection piece. In ignorant bliss, I removed the screws with the brake un-engaged. While I felt the spring tension while removing the screws, I was ill-prepared for the impressive (and dangerous) 40-foot rocket launch of the spring well into my front yard. I now know how to perform this simple task properly and safely.
    Great Video!

After a bar-fry issue, performend the same thing. Tore into the break to try and figure out how to unlock it. Wouldn't turn. Disassembled for cleaning. After 40 minutes of fiddling, I couldn't get the spring back in my little HV 120. Now that I know it's "the only way" will try it against the wall in the morning.

Excellent video-thank you so much. I had issues and my local husky dealer told me it was the ratcheting cam bit... I ordered then started looking and my spring was broken lol. Got all the parts last week and now needed to put it together without losing an eye-thanks for the SIMPLE and clear instructions!

Worked the first time, why didn't I think to slide the cover against something that didn't move? But once I saw it, no problem. Thank you for a great video.

Great video. And that's also the upgraded part. Husqvarna like the 455 and others had a recall on the band from 2015-19. Issue was that the band would split or stretch or snap because of a inferior material issue and also it was too narrow. Also on the clutch housing where the break engages if there is anodized blue that also meant the band was too thin. The video luckily has the upgraded brake band part number. Beware of Ebay buys or Amazon buys. If the part number is missing the first 2 digits then you have the defective band before the upgrade came out to replace the recalls. Sometime in April of 2019 ,they did the upgrade.

My brake keeps engaging when I try to cut. I have to hold it back (disengaged) to cut. Is this caused by too weak or too strong spring? I have an older 288XP Lite. Thanks!

I ordered a new brake band and everything seemed to fit except when I ran the chainsaw it seemed to lock up like the brake was being engaged. Everything seems to fit only one way. Any chance that I got the wrong brake band for the 455 Rancher?
