Problems with JK Inverter BMS and SunSynk (Deye) Inverter | Request Force Charge

  • A bug in firmware V15.17 on the JK Inverter BMS can cause your battery to be Force Charged if the 'wrong' CAN protocol us set. I say 'wrong' protocol, but there is a Deye CAN protocol, however if you use this for communication to a ‪@sunsynk‬ (Deye) Inverter, this 'Force Charge' will happen.
    If the 001: Deye Low Voltage Hybrid Inverter CAN Protocol is selected in the BMS, this will enable the Request Force Charge function on the Inverter, and your battery will be charged from the grid (if no solar power is available) and won't be allowed to discharge under normal conditions. If grid failure occurs, battery power will be used as normal.
    It seems like for everything to function as normal, the 002: PYLON-Low-voltage-V1.2 CAN protocol needs to be selected.
    Make sure you do all of your own testing when making changes as not all functions have been checked / tested using Firmware 15.17.
    I am using Hardware Version 15 of the JK Inverter BMS.
    Firmware Version 15.11 did not have this 'Force Charge' problem, but it seemed to have an issue when multiple batteries (BMS's) are used in parallel, the SOC would not be aggregated and reported to the Inverter correctly.

    Thank you for your videos. I have just received firmware V15.23 from JK support. The Deye protocol issue is solved in this version. I have just updated the master with this version. It seems to be working fine now. If all ok tomorrow iw wil upgrade the slave batteries and report on results here if you want. The newest BMS i had was on Version V15.19 this version was working but Deye protocol was not fixed yet.

    5:29 i have used grid import limit to completely eradicate grid usgae. I set import limiter on my sunsynk to 0watts. It worked, it stopped all grid import. But it messed with the mppts, i found it forced the mppt outputs to randomly drop to zero watts when the sun is shining and take 30-60seconds to recover. This bug might be specific to the 8kw sunsynk and using microinverter option for input from other inverters.
    Also using sunsynk batteries so no JK bms issues for me.
    7:46 Sunsynk have an "activate" option in battery settings for deeply discharged batteries. That might initiate the force charge.

    I didn't think you could make the Sunsynk only charge batteries from solar?

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  4 місяці тому

      You can… in Settings > System Mode > System 2 > make sure the check box for ‘Priority Load’ is ticked . Also make sure in System 1 settings, none of the ‘Grid’ check boxes are ticked… this way it will only charge using excess solar power and won’t be allowed to charge from the grid at all (unless the Force Charge Request is active). It will use all the solar power available to cover the load, and if there is excess solar available, it uses this to charge the battery.
      If you want Solar power to first charge the battery, and only use excess solar to cover loads, then make sure the ‘Priority Load’ check box is not ticket.
      Also, in the Battery > Batt Charge menu, make sure the Grid Charge box is not ticked, like I showed at 02:32 and it won’t charge from the grid.
      Hope this helps.

      @@GrantBurton hello sir, can you please help me 🙏
      That request force charge issue has been solved now,
      New issue is,
      In battery mode set to lithium, battery goes to 100% SoC (sometimes even Stops before 100 or 90) With Solar and grid available,
      Then it starts draining, by evening it comes down to around 85% SoC, although I have Extra solar production , which fullfills the loads requirements and then exported to the grid..
      And when it's on "percentage mode"
      Battery goes till 100% and stays there throughout the day, but the SoC difference in deye and bms app is very huge.
      Please help 🙏
      Thanks in advance

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  4 місяці тому +1

      @@adityabaradia3675 Are you meaning AGM% mode? When using Lithium batteries, SOC when using 'percentage mode' on the Inverter probably won't be accurate (neither will SOC using the 'voltage' setting be accurate)... It might be accurate when the battery is fully charged, but unlikely to be accurate as the battery discharges.
      To get the most accurate SOC over the range of the battery, you'll need to use the 'Lithium' battery type setting on the Inverter, and the battery communication needs to be working (possibly using CAN) so the BMS can report SOC to the Inverter.
      What hardware version do you have and what firmware version are you running on the BMS?
      What CAN protocol do you have set in the BMS?
      Do you have batteries (BMS's) connected in Parallel?

    Lets say I like to use the battery from 10% to 100%. Should be possible, 2.7v to 3.50v for example. Is this even possible with can-pylon protocol? Or better switch to Vbatt mode? Any negative sides to using Vbatt mode instead of lithium in the Deye?

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  3 місяці тому +1

      Hi Philippe, voltage is not a good way to measure / monitor state of charge of a lithium battery so it would be better to have the battery communicating with the inverter so that the BMS can report the battery state of charge to the Inverter, with the Inverter setup to allow the battery to drain down to whatever SOC you would like to set.

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  4 місяці тому +1

      @@adon8672 Previously using V15.11 it seemed like it was only reporting the Master BMS SOC to the Inverter, and not taking into account the SOC of any other batteries in parallel. With V15.17, when using two batteries (BMS's) in parallel, it's now reporting to the inverter the average SOC taking into account both Master and Slave battery packs.
      Other than the CAN protocol 001:Deye Force Charge issue when plugged into a SunSynk / Deye inverter, it seem to be running fine. I haven't done extensive testing of every single function and feature using V15.17, but nothing else has jumped out as being problematic.

    • @GrantBurton
      @GrantBurton  4 місяці тому +1

      Hi, the Request Force Charge problem will happen if there is a single battery being used, or if multiple batteries are connected in parallel. It appears to be the Master BMS sending the Force Charge request to the Inverter.
      Yes, to get around the Force Charge request, you need to select the CAN protocol 002:PYLON-Low-voltage-V1.2 as this seems to be working. I have not tested all of the functions extensively but many people are reporting that the PYLON protocol is working.
      I have heard from another viewer that a later version of the firmware is available but it has not been released on the JK website yet (or at least not that I could find).
