This is probably one of my favorite Evanescence songs. Normally when someone covers it I'm always worried "Oh, this is going to get pretty high, I'm not sure they can do it." When I saw Halocene covering this... I thought "Oh, Addie is probably going to go even higher". Yep, amazing job.
Love how they never disappoint. Sometimes they do in a direction I don’t expect, but even then, it’s a surprise, not a disappointment. They always deliver.

Again, one of my favorite songs I've listened to hundreds if not thousands of times... and I'm just amazed at not only how good Addie is, but I can understand EVERY SINGLE WORD so crystal clear. I'm amazed at how many covers she has done that I go "Oh, so that's what the lyrics actually are".

Addie has that clean "kinda operatic" color of her Voice. That kind of songs suit her better than something with grit which she's done e.g with Lauren Babic. For more harsch songs her vocal just don't sounds good.

Been waiting for this. Absolutely killed it and gave me goosebumps.
Can’t believe I didn’t see this until today (my birthday!). Since my newly minted husband is sleeping next to me, leaving after birthday breakfast for six weeks in France for work, some of the lines felt different; context I guess. “Don’t make me sleep alone; anything is better than to be alone.” I’ve also really struggled with my mental health lately, so I’m worried about not having my buddy to support me as I continue to try to claw my way back from immobility from chronic pain. The physical therapy is hard and without opiates to help me on bad days… it can get really rough. Finding this cover of this song today, it’s interesting timing.
And again as always Addie and the boys rock it. You never disappoint! The “Let me go,” was especially heart-wrenching, perhaps even moreso than Amy’s (not comparing to put her down; Amy’s amazing, but the intensity difference signals a different emotion, maybe desperation and frustration and anger than desperation and pleading or resignation, to me making it stronger).
Also the instrumentals around 2:13 are really really satisfying. As awesome as the vocals are (throughout!), they really shone there and made me listen to the song more closely. While this does showcase Addie a bit more than it being an even 33% split on the “Holy Crap that blows me away,” track than usual, you guys showed UP! She can blow us away with the vocals that much more for having her amazing friend and hubby playing with her and rocking out!
Final random thought; never thought I’d find a hair color that rivaled that deep blue from a few years ago (although the grey phase was snazzy) but this color just accentuates how strong but delicate Addie’s features are, and her skin is just so porcelain and perfect. She’s delicate and she’s powerful, and she’s a friggin queen in music!!!
I love you guys; keep rocking, keep making music that makes you happy, because it really makes us happy. And for some of us, these videos and singles and stuff really add up and make a difference in our lives. After my Mom died, some of the MCR and BMTH covers got me through hard days, and one of the first times I actually found myself smiling to myself was hearing Sugar, We’re Going Down Swinging (the notch in your bedpost, but you’re just a line in a song always sends me, AND actually understanding all the lyrics made it more fun).
I hope you guys do more Linkin Park; Brad’s screams are some of the most similar to Chester’s I’ve ever heard, so the desperation really hits, and we’ve seen Addie show some rap chops. I’d also be interested to see I’m Not a Vampire (Revamped) by Falling in Reverse; it could become almost a duet, and the screaming is fun. Or The Drug in Me is You (Reimagined); Addie flipping into falsetto and showcasing some of that crystal clear bright head-voice would be chef’s kiss.
Or seeing something from Within Temptation or Nightwish would be amazing. I’d love a hard version or belted version of Sleeping Sun.
For more Evanescence, an often overlooked song, but one you could MASTER is Whisper from Fallen; there’s a high operatic part after the bridge that could be transformed into a series of screams, or done an octave lower and belted with some real anguish there. Hearing Brad’s whispered vocals layered underneath a doubled Addie, maybe her singing one level an octave lower, it would be amazing, and the bridge can really put a spotlight on Joe and Brad’s playing. The drums rock the whole way through, but at the bridge they and especially the guitar just go nuts and it’s apparently a really fun riff to play.
A collab with Lauren Babic on it would be fun and add to it, but isn’t necessary for it to be an amazing addition to the repertoire, something Evanescence fans might not be expecting, but those who adore this song (not alone when I say it’s my favorite on the album) will be OVER THE MOON and spread it to like-minded friends. Amy was held back by the record company in how hard to go for that album… I’d love to see what you guys could do with that song. So many ways to make it your own.
This is now a book, apologies to anyone who got this far. But I love this group and since my wedding in April I’ve not been able to really have time to catch up and bask, and to find THIS SONG, at this juncture… I’m psyched. It’s a group I’m actively GRATEFUL to for them existing. They’ve actively helped and influenced my life positively, make my day better, and their music gives me some much needed serotonin and dopamine. I’ve loved them through so many triumphs and disasters, and they are rock steady. Rock on!’!! 🙌🏻
