I was the client here; i tihnk most of you missed the point i was trying to make. its not an Ego issue. the point I was trying to make to Neace was simple; some things that you're telling me to do I was already doing it or mentally preparing too...hard pushing a wave to counter a roam, get level 2 before ahri, roam to the backside of yone. Neace had several coaching moments that got me thinking how i am playing the game, not recalling soon enough, getting too greedy, over confident because of lane dominance. At no point was i trying to belittle Neace's knowledge or experience. Since the coaching experience, his voice has resonated is several of my games "ward their blue" " take the recall". It's sad that what I was trying to convey was misinterpreted originally and now being misrepresented. Great Coaching experience though, glad I did it.

@@tennisguru18 I think it's better that i try to discuss what im doing wrong in the game versus just saying " ok Neace, whatever you say is law" i think its better for me to question and discuss (like we did in the clip) so I can get a better understanding.

@@austinmcgill3338 i agree with you man, you're going to learn more if your slam your logic against his and see who's breaks first. 99.99% of the time gold player logic will always break first before neace or any challenger player. I would likely do the EXACT same thing if i got coached even knowing the risks of making neace feel like i think his coaching isn't good. Its just questioning this is how you come to a TRUE understanding which is better then just thinking everything he says is black and white which league is anything but black and white.

This is so apparent in lower elo player gameplay (including my own), where a lack of attention to positioning leads to several small advantages to the enemy team (walking on vision, leading to a gank failure/ gank bait). Watching Neace has helped me identify these issues and reduce variance in plays/ snowball harder

This student does not have a huge ego imo. He was honest, saying out loud what he was thinking and that he was thinking the same sometimes, he was just saying it, cause he felt like he did. And that is a good thing, cause he learned more than the people not saying things like this. He was curious and very open to learn from what I can see. Well played and a good lesson for both I'd say.

It's good he spoke his mind, because that's how you learn, but Neace was 1,000% on the money with his reaction and title.
The dude straight up acted like "nah I totally intended to do those things you were telling me to do, not all of them, but some of them".
Which is just not the case. And the SINGLE biggest lesson this guy can take from this coaching session, is understanding he was right in calling bullshit.
Neace is just calling out his 20/20 hindsight which is sooooooo much of what holds people back. You get told the right thing, and you know it's right, so you convince yourself you were "about" to go do it. But you weren't. You never were.
He needs to look at this game, and look at ALL the advice, not just the stuff he "never thought about". And then realize just how often he's NOT doing the things "I definitely was thinking that".
If he can overcome that, he'll do great. It's a standard psychological weakness most people have. It's a difficult habit to break and even some of the best fall prey to it. But the average person is much much worse about it.

First of all, check the wording of what the person said. They said they were thinking about it ahead of Neace saying it. They didn't say they were about to do it.
Second of all, there definitely will be calls that Neace said and they would have done the same thing. Neace won't have full picture of what the student knows, so he might say some more simple and obvious things just in case.
Thirdly, the way student started to speak about this, was to classify the instructions into 3 different groups to discuss those separately, which is smart. Instructions that he also was thinking about, instructions that he had no clue about and instructions he would have thought differently about.
Neace didn't let him finish that thought though and jumped on the part where he said that he thought of the same instructions before, which should be totally fine and expected.
Neace is not some sort of omniscient god that knows beforehand absolutely everything that the student is thinking of so there's naturally going to be instructions that student also has in his mind already.

    • @Ojja78
      @Ojja78 2 роки тому

Exactly. How can you learn if you don't speak up about what's going on for you? Telling Neace he was already thinking about some of those things is just trying to key Neace into his game knowledge, what he already knows or is aware of, so that Neace can more efficiently teach him. A good coach/teacher will listen to their students and adjust their teaching style or lessons accordingly.

I think the problem here is, Neace coaches for a living, there are many people who pretend they already know x y and z for ego reasons, but it's clearly not evident in their gameplay, nervous or not.
It's insulting to a teacher you are paying $200 for to act like you know already.
You're getting coaching because you're not getting the results you want, and you want to improve, so a productive way of doing that is to not undermine your teacher, and to focus on the things you clearly aren't doing, whether you truly 'thought it' or not.

It has to do with the fact that Teachers respect and encourage teachers to make good decisions, Neace isn't encouraging making good decision making if he's going to say that this guy doesn't know what he's doing, he's going to doubt himself more.
A huge part of league of legends is confidence, and that's being discouraged because Neace feels offended by something that clearly wasn't meant to offend. Of course it's understandable that he was a bit upset that the student would clearly say that they knew some of the things, but it's not professional or constructive to be offended by it, Neace should be encouraging the guy to keep making decisions that fall in line with Neace's own ideas.
He wasn't trying to undermine Neace, he simply wanted to make it clear that he's on his way to understanding, he's got a grasp, just that he's not quite there yet. Hey neace i know you probably dont play syndra but as a high elo syndra main id like to point out there is a lot of mechanical errors in this syndra gameplay which doesnt just come down to aim a lot of it comes down to having the wrong framework and the sequencing of abilities. This player has a tendency to press q e right off the jump and whiff which is common in lower elo and is why i do not recommend syndra to low elo players.
Some examples are at 3:30 he finds eve in a place where she either has to flash to get out or is dead. He should open with autos and q and save the e for w. It should also be mentioned that w->e is something like 40% faster than q->e and should always be used when trying to stun melee champions as it has a lot more consistency. He ends up missing a potential kill because of this
Another example is at 8:20 the play works out anyways but he once again tries to use q on yone and immediately whiffs e. He should be looking to only use e after ult so that he cant miss. I like q->w->q->r->e in this situations but even q->r->e works here. Like i said it works out in this case but the framework is wrong. I feel like the sequencing of abilities is the most important thing on syndra because in higher elo any whiff gets severely punished because of the long cd on this crucial ability

"my friend said you might say im too aggressive, but it feels like you're saying the opposite" - well yes, but no. it isn't about aggression vs passive play. When you have all the indicators, and you know you're ahead and there's an easy pick, by all means flash and secure it, that's good aggression. The main problem the client made was making high variance (relying on team to do x and y) and slightly more risky and UNNECESSARY plays when already ahead, which is where neace said slow down and be incremental and lock in the lead with safety.

I think a more important conversation is that when an individual’s attention is being put somewhere, if you value the source of that data point, you should take care to pay attention.
Something I say a lot in relation to adhd is if most people need to hear something 3 times to internalize it I need to hear it 7 times. Just because I have herd something before doesn’t make it a bad take. I am having my attention guided to a point of high value, I should pay attention
This coming from someone who has played this game for only one week but I’m not really talking about league stuff, I’m talking about skill acquisition 🙏🏽🤙🏽

Never even once thought taking a turret could be a bad thing. But, I can see now how sometimes opening up the map allows for the enemy team to come back. The thing I really like about Neace’s content is he teaches people how to play in THAT team/game. Yes, personal development is important, but he mostly tries to get people to understand the team-sport aspect.

I don't think it was an ego issue either. It sounds good as a clickbait title, but I think for learning purposes, him voicing his opinion was completely fine, because this also gives Neace insights to give better feedback if he knows his opinion.
If the person was like "yeah, yeah" and didn't try to say what he's really thinking then he might not learn at all. At least if you try to question you will be engaged and being engaged will definitely help you learn or adjust your opinions.
Neace during the game told him to do something, but he didn't have time to explain it fully, so it's good the student brought up those scenarios.

    • @jkil32

@@austinmcgill3338 acknowledging and accepting are not the same thing. You acknowledged that he knew things you didn't and also knew things you did. You didn't accept that regardless of if, "you thought a lot of what he was saying", your gameplay is indicative of that not being the truth or at the very least not an accurate statement. I don't think it's the ego holding you back but I don't think the title is wrong either. If you're paying someone to teach you beyond asking, trying to learn more, it's best to be silent. We don't always need to voice our opinions and if you can't do that then maybe ego is an issue. "You don't always have to be the loudest voice in the room". No hate at all, sorry for the wall of text.

    • @enzzz
      @enzzz 2 роки тому +1

@@jkil32 "it's best to be silent"
Hard and complete disagree here. If you are silent Neace won't be able to know what kind of reasoning or strategic errors you might have in your head and he will not be able to calibrate those thoughts.
It's seriously just not about ego. It's also not about being the loudest voice in the room. Yes, Neace can see your gameplay and try to correct that, but far more important are the thoughts or reasoning you have behind the decisions you make to point out any common obstacles from playing optimally.
During this gameplay, Neace could yell out orders and commands, but he didn't have enough time to explain the full reasoning. Him, bringing up these points and what he thought, is what helps Neace address the issues.
Because this student brought up the thoughts he had, the discussion lead to a very interesting topic of making incremental low risk gains after gaining an advantage to complete the game. If the client was quiet and just did what was told, I'm not sure he would have understood that the reason he loses most games is because he takes too risky decisions when ahead, which can cause too many throws.

I wanna say it's kinda like stress testing? Except part of the intent is to beat it into the student that when they keep doing the things that are asked of them, it wins them the game.
It's difficult for some students to comprehend some concepts because some will not even attempt to entertain certain ideas in their gameplay.
A good example of this is the Shyvana player Neace coached on one his videos recently, they were always hesitating when Neace told him to do something he didn't believe would work. And quite frankly, it was really hard to watch. Then the one time he did exactly as Neace told him, he saw how well it worked, then for the rest of the game, he followed Neace's calls, and things went smoothly, they won the game with no problem.
Neace emphasising that he assisted you in winning that one game just enforces those patterns that he is trying to teach.
So really, he's trying to win the game for you IN ORDER to enforce what he is teaching you. (and win or lose, he can still go over things you did badly and how to fix them)
Plus, this style of coaching tries to encourage students to think ahead, and try to entertain (and maintain) these gameplay patterns and concepts before Neace can even tell you to do them, because if you don't listen, or do it too slowly, you get shouted at.
