Found an issue Magellan GPS in my demob kit 25 years after leaving. Nobody asked for it at stores when handing my kit back in,so I kept it. Still working perfectly. Now everything it does is on my GPS watch.

Brings back memories! I bought a Trimble Transpack which was the civvy version of the "Trimpack" as my first GPS unit to use for hiking in the dense bush of northern Ontario. I think I got it in the late 80's. I bought a better (ie: smaller and simpler to use) Trimble "Scoutmaster" some years later. My present GPS is even smaller than that! Excellent videos, as an ex-pat with a military experience, I really enjoy them!

We still needed to double check with the old folding paper Map. There were less satellites back then and these, as now needed three satellite locks to get a basic position. We now have Iridium as well so can bounce off satellites not in the view of the device. These were amazing for the time but as with all things were quickly superseded by something else. The readout on the GPS is a 10 figure grid that you can find on a map just like a grid ref.
