Did you notice that Princess Leia went to college & became a therapist? 😉 Also, Austin's vibe is from the late '60s baby, not the '70s. '67-'69 specifically. Love your reactions! 😊👍🏻 Btw "an easily escapable situation involving an overly elaborate & exotic death" is a common early James Bond trope. 😅
9:06 This character, Random Task, is a parody of a Bond villain named Odd Job. They both have about the same height and build, but Odd Job did damage by throwing an inconspicuously-fortified _hat._
I was put in a room with a waterbed, when I was a kid in the 80's. I was *so* excited! Why would my cousins grace me with this gift? Going to bed...after an hour of squishing around, bobbing up and down, all positions unsupported...I put all the blankets and pillows on the floor and finally went to sleep next to the waterbed.
I had a hard frame waterbed for years as a kid in the 90's, and I think it was an older style one from like the 70's or 80's as it had no mattress but you slept directly on a waterbed "bladder" which was very wild like you explain, bobbing up and down etc... It would often spring leaks and we'd patch it, if you rolled too far to one side you might push all of the water over and get stuck between it and the frame.... and when my blankets would pull off in the night my skin would stick to the material the bladder was made out of, I don't recall if it was vinyl or rubber, but it wasn't fun. Still.. I had bragging rights for having one in my room😆
Dr. Evil's mannerisms and voice were, in part, based on Myers' old boss at SNL and fellow Canadian, Lorne Michaels. The rest is a mashup of various Bond villains. Bond is the single biggest source of inspiration from movie, but Myers also pulled in a bunch of references and inspiration from other 60s vintage spy thrillers and spy comedies, as well other British culture inspired by his parents (father in particular).
@@shadowcatreacts Oh man so many.. Final Fantasy Tactics also came out the same year. Fallout, Goldeneye, uhh GTA I think. Diablo. Just so many good ones. I don't remember if Xenogears was 97 or 98, but it was around there as well.
Austin was part of the swinging 60s, hence his style and the psychedelic party aesthetics (as opposed to the disco 70s, just to clarify) - much more of the free love and groovy nature in that era. This is as much a spoof of Bond movies as it is of other cool guy 60s flicks like Cool Hand Like and In Like Flint, though Dr Evil is supposed to invoke the look of Ernst Stavros Blofeld, the big bad from a lot of the Bond movies. Random Task, the shoe throwing henchman, was a nod to Odd-job who threw a hat. Mike Myers famously based Dr Evil's speech patterns and voice on Saturday Night Live creator and show runner Lorne Michaels. If you ever hear an interview with him talking, it's spot-on. Edit: I love all the Bond movies but they're all very much a part of their eras, the old ones feel old but there's a charm. If that's not something you think you'd enjoy, or if it's too much of an undertaking (there's over 20 of them) then maybe just start with the modern Daniel Craig era, at Casino Royale. That's sort of a reboot/restart/retelling of a younger Bond getting started as an agent.
Mike seems to enjoy playing multiple characters, and has done it as far back as So I Married An Axe Murderer. And he plays at least 4 or 5 in its spin-off show The Pentavorate.

yeah, for people who haven't seen the movie its basically free advertising. and for people who have seen the movie its hardly as if I would have paid to watch Austin Powers today if I didn't find a reaction for it. So what's the down side?
Same here, but I like to see the movie first. I often watch stuff just so I can watch the reactions. It's usually stuff I would normally avoid or would have not noticed otherwise.

Dr Evil's whole look is largely inspired by classic Bond villain Ernest Blofeld who also comes from that linage of nazi coded villains so that's why he has one too.
Bond movies def are a deep dive and worth the watch. Some of the films are just epic some so so as didn't age very well. But on the whole the Bond series of films are culturally significant to film. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery was set in the 1960s (not the 1970s) and the 1990s. Mini me will appear in the second Austin Powers movie: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Beyonce' will appear in the Third Austin Powers movie: Goldmember (set in the 1970s and 2000s) a spoof/parody of the 3rd James Bond film: Goldfinger.
If you are going to watch the Bond movies Shadow, (and you should!) you should start at the begining (Dr No) and watch them in release order. Glad you enjoyed Austin Powers. 😀
Great reaction. The look of doctor Evil, with cat, is based on the Bon villain (Blofeld). The voice and mannerisms are an imitation of his boss at SNL Lorne Michaels. Fun fact: When George Bush was president he would do Dr. Evil (voice and pinky gesture) at the Whitehouse.
LMAO "why does anybody sit in those chairs?" I'll be honest - I love James Bond movies but they are not all essential viewing. Dr. No, Goldfinger, and Moonraker (probably the silliest one) would give you a good background in regards the Austin Powers movies, and some of the recent ones were quite good, Skyfall in particular. I've seen most of them but generally just listen to the theme songs these days coz who has time for thirty films? All that said the rest of the Austin Powers are funny too and I would love to watch them with you. Thanks as always!
Groovy Baby!!! LOL Hilarious film series. Don't stop each is just as good. Lot's of comedy but also lots of love. Speaking of love... great reaction. You definitely need to watch the Bond series. Just with the first one, Dr. No and go from there. Just watch them in order. Y'all be safe.
The Sean Connery bond movies are good, but that’s the only bond I really watched, all the rest I have no idea about. Heard good things about Daniel Craig bond though, haven’t watched the yet though. Also, I love your name, shadow cat, it holds a special place in my heart and it’s a bit of a story but I’d like to share it one day with you.
I really like Sean and Daniel, and of course Pierce Brosnan who has a special place for me having grown up watching his Bond movies and playing the video games with his Bond. But Timothy Dalton is my favorite actor to portray Bond. I think it's a shame they never made a 3rd Bond film with him. But at least we got the two that we got.
I enjoyed your reaction as much as the movie. Especially the scene starting at 19:42. And after the movie, you learning who played Dr. Evil was also great. You should do a UA-cam short starting at 19:42
The first Austin Powers movie is a beautiful thing I personally don't like Bond much so wouldn't watch reactions, but lots of people do love them. Watch them if you like \o/
Definitely watch some Bond films. The parodies primarily come from the early ones with Sean Connery Bonds and the Roger Moore Bonds, specifically Dr. No, From Russia With Love, Goldfinger, definitely You Only Live Twice and The Spy EmWho Loved Me, but the spoofed scenes relating to those films is sporadic so Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice may be a good place to start. Such a fun reaction too!
This movie is so stupid and silly its brilliant in it's satire and on fire. It's James Bond 007, turned to the comedic Spinal Tap on 11. P.S. Love the Kurt Cobain shirt
3:47 I think you most definitely should watch the Bond movies, Shadowcat. 28:45 I remember doing that with the light switch in middle school when my teacher asked me to turn off the lights in the classroom. The kid I was sitting next to was laughing and told me I made the teacher laugh too. But I didn't notice the teacher. With your sense of humor I think you'd also enjoy the movie Joe Dirt. He's such a unique and likable character. Put Joe Dirt on your list.
Thank, you William 🥲 I really appreciate your thoughtful comments. Is Goldmember the second one? Interestingly that name sounds the most familiar to me out of all the titles
@@shadowcatreacts yes, Goldmember is the 3rd one. The Spy Who Shagged Me is the 2nd one, and that's when Mini Me and Fat Bastard make their appearances. This is really funny but I actually think the second one is even funnier. Mini me is the second movie. Beyoncé is the third movie. Oh, Mike Meyers plays several roles in this movie. Austin Powers obviously. As well as Dr. Evil and Fat Bastard later on. The character Alotta Fagina is a spoof on the character, "Pussy Galore," from the second James Bond movie Goldfinger. So is the guy with the shoe. Only it was a hay in the Bond movie. These movie spoof a lot of early James Bond movies and other spy movies from the 60's. My Aunt had a circular bed and I had a waterbed for many years.
This movie has _two_ sequels. The _first_ one, _Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me_ is _also_ really awesome, and its release actually coincided with three _music_ videos. The _second_ one, though, _Austin Powers in Goldmember,_ left me disappointed, and that's unfortunate. That's the one that has Beyonce.
When he said 'jubleys' he was referring to a frozen ice drink in the shape of a pyramid, popular in the UK in the 60s. To schoolboys this looked like womens breaststroke.
Yea, I miss the mid-tier/budget movies of the late 90's/early 00's. They were perfect for when you wanted to relax to something that wasn't super indie or a huge blockbuster. Parody movies were fun but the genre died when they just started making a ton of really really bad ones. The Scary movie franchise was the last good ones and even their quality suffered near the end.
hello. it would be super cool if you followed up this movie with the OG James bond movie. Goldfinger. there were 2 earlier bond movies but they did not develop the character yet & are not masterpieces like Goldfinger was. It made bond a global celeb like star wars. check it out & some of the jokes in austin powers sequels will make more sense.
yes do the bond movies if you want there great some are better than others however there a lot. some people just do the daniel craig films and thats it but to truly i think its better if you do all including the start because a lot of references from the Daniel craig films are in all the older films and yes even pierce brosnan for. and top people say that they haven't aged well can put a sock it there just deferent because of the times. PS a fan of the bonds waiting for the next new one. however if you don't watch the bonds it doesn't matter the choice is yours. if you do them start with the first one dr.No and don't listen to haters
mommy issues? you seem hung up on the fact that austin had a thing for her mom once. but you seemed like it was hard for you to accept that he liked vanessa now, not her mom.
Either fake react or you're just trying too hard to fake laugh the entire time. I've seen you comment you're way left liberal to the point where you can't take a joke. So I assume this is why you're forcing yourself to fake laugh. It's actually painful to watch
“Are they ill tempered?.” 😭

It’s hard to overstate the influence of Bond so you should definitely watch at least a few of the big ones (Goldfinger, Spy Who Loved Me, etc).
You have the best laugh. I hope you watch the second movie. It's a smash!
If you like this one you'll probably like two and three even more.
Austin Powers (the character) came from the 1960s the Hippie era, not the 70s.
When he said 'jubleys' he was referring to a frozen ice drink in the shape of a pyramid, popular in the UK in the 60s. To schoolboys this looked like womens breaststroke.
20:23 Does this actress look familiar to you, Shadowcat? She doesn't usually play such a _small_ part.
15:00 god i love Tom Arnold 🤣
This parodies a lot of Bond movies 1 through 5, (1962-1967)
Great movie. You would have got more had you seen some James Bond films first
100 Billion Dollars!
Most definitely watch the James bond movies. Impossible to waste time watching them
yes do the bond movies if you want there great some are better than others however there a lot. some people just do the daniel craig films and thats it but to truly i think its better if you do all including the start because a lot of references from the Daniel craig films are in all the older films and yes even pierce brosnan for. and top people say that they haven't aged well can put a sock it there just deferent because of the times. PS a fan of the bonds waiting for the next new one. however if you don't watch the bonds it doesn't matter the choice is yours. if you do them start with the first one dr.No and don't listen to haters
Allot of movies have some themes about celibacy and its benefits.
30:21 😢
Try the movie : History Of The World Part 1
yes watch the second and third movie they are great even though the second one is my least favorite of the franchise.
Hi
This is pure classic James Bond film (type) parody. If you have not seen them, most things here make no sense.
60s, not 70s.
Millennials. *sigh* It was the 60s, not the 70s.
😍
part 2 is way better
The '70s esthetics is nothing like that of the '60s. Also, they mentioned "the '60s" like ten times. 🤣
🤦♂️
there was no 70s nostalgia in the 1990s........................
mommy issues? you seem hung up on the fact that austin had a thing for her mom once. but you seemed like it was hard for you to accept that he liked vanessa now, not her mom.

Cult classic. Too bad the sequels are the definition of cringe.
Either fake react or you're just trying too hard to fake laugh the entire time. I've seen you comment you're way left liberal to the point where you can't take a joke. So I assume this is why you're forcing yourself to fake laugh. It's actually painful to watch
Please watch the movie and stop talking
