What a beautiful pair of chairs. It appears English George Hepplewhite was a much earlier contemporaneous of French Pierre Pillot, does that mean Pillot's chairs were inspired by Hepplewhite's famous models? Many details make them very similar to the English ones. Is that the case? In any way, Pillot's are truly remarkable, 'Tres Francais', 'Very French'. I would be perfectly happy to have nothing else in a room but these chairs, and an old apple crate for two wine glasses. The patina of the old lacquer, with the wood showing through, is exquisite. Thanks so much for sharing these with us, I think they'll be appearing in my dreams tonight. I'd like to think that beautiful spiders will emerge from those egg sacks!

@@MyersMonroe There is a similar suite of furniture on the Salon des Huet of the Nissim de Camondo Museum in Paris with the shield shaped back design, that even has matching shepherdesses and a canape.
The arm chairs and their video are,as stated thrilling. Though no expert,I would spontaneously call the pop ups on the back finials. Another name used by the French for the carving judiciously placed on the legs are asperges,or asparagi in English! Hearty thanks for your wonderful sharing . I do hope to see more of your work soon.

They have been relacquered. The original finish would have been much more worn away, plus no 18'th century maker would have allowed for such uneven edges on the underside. They are however elegant, and somewhat unusual in detail. Well done on the description. I'm looking forward to more.

Well I like Nogaret as well but have never ended up with any pieces by him! He was one of those few non Parisian makers (although he was born in Paris) whose work sort of rivaled in quality and concept Parisian pieces.
Well I’m sort of tall but yes with these chairs (unlike some of the later, early 19th century ones featured here) we see the smallness of some 18th century chairs. They are really museum pieces or pieces to be displayed at home - not really adapted to modern living and chair use needs at all!
