if by "out-of-tune" you refer to performances at A=432 or lower, I am able to enjoy them, probably because I don't have perfect pitch. Some period instruments set my teeth on edge, but some I really like - especially the baroque oboe, with its trumpet-like clarity. I am glad to live in a time when both period instruments and modern instruments are being recorded in the hands of masters.
