Amazing voice...amazing song...Long live the new PRINCESS OF SOUL,MELANIE FIONA!!!WISH YOU ALL THE BEST AND SOON REACH THE TOP!!!Greetings and Love from Greece and also some relatives from Montreal!!!
#57 on US Billboard's R&b charts? What is wrong with people? This girl is the real deal! Just about all of Europe and Canada definitely know great music.
@16carson16 I'm not a Fiona's fan nor a Beyonce's one but an MJ fan for life and I still believe that Fiona is way better than Beyonce and unfortunately waaaay understimated than Beyonce,I don't know for what reason but I believe this is true and sad in the same time.
Still love this song!!! "Where I want it and when I want it, you got to be ready" "But when I get it, i better be satisfied.." "I don't think you understand, how real it is for me to find a man who thinks he can!..." "Give it to me right...or don't give to me at all!" ALL MY FAVORITE PARTS OF THIS SONG!!!!!!!! Men, grab a pen and paper and take notes lol
Whether she sampled the music or whatever. The young lady is definitely giving it to us right. She's pretty, she's got her real hair, she's got clothes on and she can sing.
-Thank You- Finally someone with some sense knows where this songs origins from. I grew up with the zombies cause my dad played it 24/7 and recognize this riff + beat instantly. Still, the producer of Melanie did a great job on this track. Her RnB voice combined with this unique rythmn makes the song sound up-to-date and totally new. I can't deny i like it very much and have to give credits! Big up!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Melanie Fiona's voice...simply beautiful, and so powerful! And she actually sounds like this live (unlike some artists I know). Yeah T.O...represent!
Purely for me and I love it.... she's absolutely divine and I wish her everything greater than anything else in her career...best vocal performance in my eyes 👀.... Sweet......!!!!👍❣️Go Girl....!!👍 Getter tiger rrrraaaahhhh.. LOL
A video of an exceptional singer from 13 years ago, who I only got to know a short time ago. Unfortunately Brazil is very closed to the American style of making music. If I can compose some thing in this segment in Brazil I would be very happy.
the song sounds great so what she used a sample she gave credit and got permisson to use it to me sample is the same as remaking a whole song only difference is your using a track either way sampling has be done for years even in the 1980's the only difference is now you get permission and get it cleared who hasent sampled a song so just because she samples the zombies that doesnt make her a true artist please get real
Semi-literate, I won't dignify that, but let me rebut the BullShit, Inspiration my ass, They flat out RIPPED those guys off, listen here son, let me educate you, American music is BLACK MUSIC, from the Call nd Response era on the plantations, to Gospel, Jazz, Blues, Soul, RocknRoll(rock, metal) RnB,POP, HipHop, we keep creating it nd the power structure keep stealing nd fabricating, nd your right it's my opinion that this is a better song, but I'm sure whole lot of people would also agree.
her voice is good but the direct sample of the zombies music aint cool. is it a lack of creativity or is it just being lazy or what. the zombies melody and singing is way beyond this song!!!
I do want it all the time. . . . . . . You better give it to me right. . . . . . . . And if you don't give it to me I'll just take it. This is for my boyfriend. Cause he know I will;-)
Danced to this at my Ceroc class. What a fantastic track. Want to get up and boogie as soon as it starts. Never heard of this lady till last night. Very impressed.
Well, I don't generally listen to pop/r&b/hip-hop for that very reason. Covering a song is one thing, but liftng the music from a song and changing the lyrics is theft, in my opinion. Speaking as a musician and a writer, I see it as very disrespectful and unoriginal to sample the music from a song that someone else put time and effort into writing, even if the song is 40 years old. Yes, I agree, she has a great voice, but it's tarnished by the blatant ripoff of someone else's music.
It's hard for me to get past the fact that the music is taken from The Zombies 'Time of the Season'. It's one thing to write music that's similar to another song, but to rip the music directly from an old classic shows blatant disrespect to the authors of the original song. It's a bullshit Vanilla Ice technique that just doesn't fly. Great voice, but the lack of originality really kills it for me.
Ok she has a nice voice but.... This is another example of the sad state of the industry of pop music since the early to mid 1990's till today. This song is features an iconic sample from the Zombie's "Time of the Season". In fact the chunk of the song they are using brings same to the word sample. What's next someone sing some sappy love song lyrics over the Beatles' "Come Together" and we call them the next big thing? Oh by the way the song was made several year before I was born.
Melanie Fiona was given permission to use the tune in this song. I am sure Rod was flattered and pleased that someone wanted to use his music. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Melanie is exposing people to the Zombies who have never even heard of them. Your taste in music is questionable. The only artist that we share in taste is Aerosmith. Although, I would never claim that they had great voices. Screaming and screeching over loud music is not singing.
@ddpdmd (what's your name? - Otto?) Hi, I will try to write in German, but it's school-english and 40 years ago: what's up with you? - I'm ok and I don't fussin about this song - only, I think of "Time of the seasen" from The Zombies, I think you wasn't born at this time (?) - sorry - I like this song from Melanie ... verry much! and when I go next time to a Disco, I will dance to this song and I will think of you in English!!! Great wishes, siggi
haha to all of you complaining about the rip-off: it's very common, not only at our present time -> see tina turner e.g. but i think as long as you don't just copy without doin anything different it's ok... and if you guys perhaps listen to hip hop/ rap nearly EVERY track is sampled which leads me to say: sampling can be very creativ and as i said hip hop/rap is born out of sampling! IMAGINE! peace to all artists
do u even know what that word means? obviously not! you need to pull out a dictionary and look up the word. and as far as her ripping off another tune, i am pretty sure she has permission to use the tune otherwise, it wouldnt be on the net, u dummy!!!! shows how much u know!! and besides she has got a beautiful voice and she is famous for it!! who r u and what do u do for a living???
And on that thought DougThug1 we wouldnt have the music we have today if it werent for those with rhythm in there heart and a certain song that they loved playing on the radio. There are several songs threw out music history that has been redone and modified to please the new generations. Rock started with Elvis and Pop with TLC, Britney, The backstreet boys, and many others. Over time music changes and it all starts with people just like Melanie Fiona.
You're really making a fool of yourself with this barrage of idiotic, repetitive statements. Melanie is listed as the writer of the lyrics and only that. She has never claimed to have produced the song, or to have composed the music. She has openly admitted in multiple interviews that she sampled the music of the Zombies for the song because she felt like it fit well. So pretty much all of your post here is moot.
It's sickening to see racism infiltrate every aspect of human culture. Music has no color, it's artistic expression and is influenced by all sorts of things. There are non-black people who make some of the most soulful music you'd ever want to listen to and black people who rock it as hard as Metallica. Stop living as a color and just live. People are people. This woman has sampled the musical track from the Zombies and made it work for her.
This isn't really classified as stealing. If she had taken both the musical production, concept and lyrics of the original, then yes, your charges of "theft" on her part would be justified. However, she is merely singing on a sample or copy of the instrumental to the original song, with a totally new concept. The highlight here is that she CAN sing, and that is her main talent....she's not the one manning the production boards for her songs so give her a break.
let me just say this. It is a rare thing for me to comment on videos, so this must mean something. (even though i'm just some random commenter out of millions of people), but to me it means you have a GREAT VOICE. There is a LOT of power and beauty in the way you sing, and you seem to be very lyrical. I love that. Not to mention the beat ties in AMAZINGLY, (its a beat from one of my favorite songs). I really believe you are gonna go somewhere. DO NOT STOP THE GOOD MUSIC :D.
Popular music is not in a stagnation, the problem is that people only follow mainstream songs and artists. There's plenty of good music out there people just have to learn to look for it because those artists don't get any airtime at all. That's why I those online music stores that have the "if you like this then you'll like... " feature. Lots of them even promote unknown artists with awesome repertoire.
I like both the classic "Time of the season" and the above. She made a good new song based on the Zombies' rythm section, a lot of expression in her voice... Alas, this also illustrates what a stagnation popular music has been in lately. 99% of what comes out these days is utter, bland crap which no one even remembers 5 years after. For musicians in the 60s finding inspiration in the 1920s would be a phenomenal rarity, today looking 40 years back is common, almost "obvious"...
You have a wonderful voice, and will probably be successful in the music industry. That said, I don't know if I should address this to you or to your producer: Have you ever heard of integrity? What? Don't have a single creative thought in your head? Why do you have to steal not only other people's ideas, but the ACTUAL RECORDINGS of their work, and call it your own? You know, they used to hang horse thieves.
This woman is phenomenal. If you look at the vocal talent we have nowadays, I'd say she is def one of the top vocalists. I jus did a snippet cover of this song today, and OF COURSE nobody can sing it like Ms. Melanie Fiona, but I jus love singing this song. Check it out :)
fook duffy ,,no disrispect but were did you think duffy an her gang got thisbeat from ,,,and any one else like the zombies ,,,,know ya music the sister has just touched on her ,,home vibe and ,give you a tune that will be played and played ,so stop hatin ,,,,,,,,do ya thing ,Miss mel ,,,,1
Well I listened now to that Zombies, and apart from the starting them I think that there's not much other common in the song - and definitely I love this one much better. And to be honest, even if it was a re-work, I would love this version much more than the old one, though I can imagine that at that time it was really cool
Learn to read, maybe. I never said she was bad. I never denied her talent as a singer. I do think she chose an impropor baseline for this song which doesn't match her vocals. I suggest you go back, re-read what I posted and if you still can't grasp what I said, then my "lame" comeback still stands accurate.
I sometimes think these comments should be disabled but of course that would destroy free speech. If you don't like the song or you disagree with other peoples comments just get over it and get on with your life, no-one will make you listen to it or buy it. PS, historically, music evolves and let's face it samples are not a new phenomenon, ask Will Smith!
Dougy Thug1 - you are clearly an unformed blogger - please do your homework - it is illegal for an artist or anyone for that matter to use the tracks and/or lyrics for any song without first being granted PERMISSION of the owner of the piece - I do believe that the reputable label Fiona is signed to would have taken care of that . Why such a hater?
Time of the Season is a timeless classic. It was once said Time of the Season was made decades before its time and I believe its still searching for its place long after Zombies first created it. Time of the Season is my favorite some from when I was just a kid but I also love Give It To Me Right. Both Thumbs Up!
Don't worry about the haters on here. I love your voice and style. You are the first female in a while that in my opinion has pure raw talent that catches my ear. I have studied music for over 20 years and I am not a big fan of new school stuff, but you did your thing girl. Keep up the good work and much success on any future endeavors you embark on.
listening to the her interviews, sounds like she appreciates the old stuff and don't want people to forget it, so she's adding a new spin by bridging the gap between generations - I think it's great - cause I love the old stuff too. the song is great. I think her album dropping early summer is called The Bridge. Peace
I love the fact that she sampled The Zombie 'Time Of The Season'. Vocally, she's a force to be reckoned with all.
I love this song. I choreographed a dance to this, JUST NOW!!!! Soon to be uploaded (Soon as I find 4 girls to do it with me lol).
Amazing voice...amazing song...Long live the new PRINCESS OF SOUL,MELANIE FIONA!!!WISH YOU ALL THE BEST AND SOON REACH THE TOP!!!Greetings and Love from Greece and also some relatives from Montreal!!!

@PinkFloydGuitarist OMG NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE INSTRAMENTAL...THE WORDS ARE ORIGINAL...get over yourself!!
@16carson16 I'm not a Fiona's fan nor a Beyonce's one but an MJ fan for life and I still believe that Fiona is way better than Beyonce and unfortunately waaaay understimated than Beyonce,I don't know for what reason but I believe this is true and sad in the same time.

"Give it to me right...or don't give to me at all!"
ALL MY FAVORITE PARTS OF THIS SONG!!!!!!!! Men, grab a pen and paper and take notes lol
figures an old rock n roll beat used by an rnb singer
Love the Time of the Season loop.
A true talent in a sea of wanna-be's. I just hope that she gains the exposure to help her excel the way she deserves.
my song ;)
Whether she sampled the music or whatever. The young lady is definitely giving it to us right. She's pretty, she's got her real hair, she's got clothes on and she can sing.
This song is the truth!
One of the best songs I have heard in years...thanks for bringing some feeling back into music
If you're going to rip off the Zombies ("Time of the Season") rip them off right, or don't rip them off at all :) This ripoff is actually quite good.
-Thank You-
Finally someone with some sense knows where this songs origins from.
This song goes hella hard!!! She has an amazing voice...keep it going girl!! good luck
I love her!! wauw.. that voice
IM A FAN!!!!!!
This is the quintessential feel good song for men over 50 who like contemporary music,
love this song but the music is from "It's the time of the Season"
omg i know right !
Original song by Zombies is beautiful.
Remove Zombies' sample from this track and it will sound dull.
the internet is at least 3 months ahead of radio. You're the only one who knows how cool this song is, for now.
I appreciate her vocally. I like the whole Zombies thing never hurts to hear a good song again done well.
My favorite Song is my heart
First time listening to it and I.... LOVE IT!!!!!
Amazing song. Cheers me up everytime I hear it hehe :D
@BothRoS099 so you really took your time to look up this video and hate on it?
this is the "Stand by me" riddim as we Caribbean people would say, or sampled as Americans would say, so Duffy is guilty too.
here's a real talented woman...btw,who's beyonce???=)))))
I can't believe there isn't a video for this song yet.
Yes she often use beats from other groups hence the songs automatically get popular.
If I can compose some thing in this segment in Brazil I would be very happy.
first I didn't like the song but now I'm addicted to it! she has such a great voice.
that's a beautiful song! I love it so much ;)
She's singing this live right now on pepsi . com :D
LOVE this song! The Bronze brought me here! lol
I just heard it on the radio in Lebanon and was amazed !
Such a powerful voice abd great lyrics !
Thank you !
the song sounds great so what she used a sample she gave credit and got permisson to use it to me sample is the same as remaking a whole song only difference is your using a track either way sampling has be done for years even in the 1980's the only difference is now you get permission and get it cleared who hasent sampled a song so just because she samples the zombies that doesnt make her a true artist please get real

Amazing lyrics and vocals, wouldn't change a single detail :)
her voice is good but the direct sample of the zombies music aint cool. is it a lack of creativity or is it just being lazy or what. the zombies melody and singing is way beyond this song!!!
Saw her Nashville TN at the winery on my birthday couple years ago....really enjoy the show...hope she comes back..
@BuildingEmpire Ok in your opinion B is the diva.To me Melonie Fiona is the diva.I respect others opinion maybe you and the others should do the same.
@twerpgal My thoughts exactly.
I do want it all the time. . . . . . . You better give it to me right. . . . . . . . And if you don't give it to me I'll just take it. This is for my boyfriend. Cause he know I will;-)
This song was sooooo slept on
I LOVE THIS SONG!!
best
It's called sampling... like 'Watcha Say' which was sampled from Imogen Heaps 'Hide & Seek'... so it's not really a rip off
Yeah The Zombies ! Wow i'm really surprised nobody has used this sample before for a huge track. Well now they have.
Danced to this at my Ceroc class. What a fantastic track. Want to get up and boogie as soon as it starts. Never heard of this lady till last night. Very impressed.
Nd if ya'll want to be technical about it u could say the zombies got their ideah from Ben E. King's Stand By Me.
Such a rip to the zombies
@dakotajdunn wtf lol
Damn, I'm so sick of the unoriginality in the music industry...cant this chicken make her own beats?
Being Erica
she ruined Time of the Season... :( it wouldn't be bad if she made her own music with the lyrics.
great sample form the zombies but she sounds HORRIBLE.imo a guy on this song would be alot better
@jeja2612 CARICA!!!!!!!! :DDDD
Good to see people appreciating you Melanie
People are also feeling the Remix you got with ME

I like the song.
