*Happy Thursday and Happy Thanksgiving! We're thankful that you decided to take out the time and listen this week! So of course, let us know what you think of any of these stories; a few will definitely rustle some feathers, we're sure!* 😆
I will say many video games since the '80s have been political. Final fantasy, most war video games,Metal gear series, jrpgs, walking simulators, rpgs, every GTA game with its satire and many others. I think Alec does not pay attention to those in the game because neither do I because I don't care. Other people can't just ignore it or just not play a game and keep quiet. Vocal minority yelling again.
When the meta is terrible and the game is dying. But you're just a chill guy who plays decks you enjoy and have fun with. Thats the vibe paul gives now
Anakin: “I’ve brought peace, justice, and security with my new deck.” Obi-wan: “Your new deck?” Anakin: “Don’t make me duel you.” Obi-Wan: “Anakin, my allegiance is to the meta. To Konami!” Anakin: “If you’re not with me, then you’re my opponent.” Obi-Wan: Only a casual deals with absolutes, I will do what I must.” Anakin: “You will try.” DUEL!
"I never thought Call of Duty was political." Yeah, the US raiding half of the World, killing Fidel Castro in Black Ops and having wars all over the World wasn't political at all.
This but non-sarcastically. Politics is about using a platform/opportunity to attempt to convince/persuade/etc someone else. CoD is about using political events for non-political purposes (entertainment.)
Hey Alec, I just wanted to let you know I tried Digimon over the weekend and it was a blast! My LCS just became an official Bandai store and they had free decks and experienced players to teach. I played a purple deck with Arresterdramon Superior Mode as the main boss.
I agree that cards should split effects across multiple cards rather than having 1 card doing it all. This way, it greatly reduces the text on the card, not making it an eyesore. Also, it creates pieces of a puzzle to be discovered and combined together, making the player feel smart. People like feeling smart by discovering something, instead of being spoonfed it all and then creates decks that feel like they play themselves.
Yo, I'm the guy who asked about FF14! Just wanted to say thanks for answering my questions! And I'm right there with ya Alec, I mained DRK from Heavensward to Endwalker when I switched to Reaper. Been playing and enjoying Picto recently. DRK life is rough though, hope we can have a comeback sometime soon!
I was watching the duel between Arkana and Yami. Very bizarre but sad watching Red Dark magician being sacrificed. The animators did a great job with expressions on that episode. They certainly captured agony and distress.
I'm soooo happy the Early Days Collection has Monster Capsule GB. That became my favorite YGO video game by a country mile when I got through its fan translation in my current series run and the fact that it's getting a full official worldwide release on it is HUGE. I hope more people play it and fall in love with it! It's awesome for anyone who loves the YGO manga or season 0 or both, or even just the characters of Duel Monsters in general. Lots of cute interactions and a technically impressive game too!
I do think the pick for the shadow duelist this time around was much more fitting, and even done much better than the last one. In terms of the advertising and any sort of push from Konami, though, I think us fans had already soured on the idea due to the first one. Hopefully when they do the next one, we'll have warmed up to it and there will be a bit more interest.
The conversation about people want their favourite deck to be meta really resonates with me because fire kings have been my favourite seen the first structure deck and even tho I don’t play a lot (only on master duel) I’m still a bit worried that Konami will ban some of the cards (I don’t think they deserve to be banned either) so I couldn’t play them with all the cards. Also I don’t collect yugioh cards in real life just for the art.
Paul: digi-Yugioh > paper Yugioh I got a duel idea, “Forbidden” list vs “Limited” list decks, whenever a significant change in the forbidden list, the purpose, none really except maybe displaying the unchecked power of these cards. Perhaps, a history lesson of the Forbidden list over the years? Revisiting those old lists could be an-alright time. 🤷♂️
Hearing that Pokémon Go story kind of reminds me of this book series I read called Hyperion/ Endymion. TLDR: The primary antagonists is an AI collective called the TechnoCore, and they’ve evolved to have an extremely parasitic dependency on analyzing human brain activity.
Konami released 3 separate Castlevania collections. First of the originals, then a collection of the GBA games and then a collection of the DS games. Since Konami own Yu-Gi-Oh! as well, hopefully they do the same. So if Early days is the old skool collection, we might get a Later days collection with: Duelist of the Roses, Dawn of Destiny, Capsule Monsters Coliseum, the Power of Chaos trilogy, Tag Force Evolution. I know that's only 7 games instead of 14 but since they are console games, they are definitely bigger in scope.
Crossover Breakers are continuing the trend with Valiant Smashers by making one deck completely common and the other two hard to get I see. Memento were all the penny cards with the exception of Bone Party and Witch while Vaalmonica and Centur-Ion were all high rarity and above..
I say 4 ultras per box are still pretty low, especially since CRs come every 3-4 boxes, but it is still an improvement from 3 ultras I guess. Also, I wonder if the Early Days Collection will have promo cards.
Question for the next PoG: If you were in Yugioh nationals, and you made it to the semis, but JUST as you're finna get ready for your match a THICK, BUSTY mommy asks you if you want to meet them in the hotel bathroom and buss it wide open would you risk losing the match for it? your match starts in 15 minutes, the walk to and from the restroom is a combined 7 minutes, so that leaves 8 minutes left to lay down the hammer, realistically 5 or less, but the point stands would you risk it for the biscuit HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING...in a plot twist you can't ask her to link up with you after the game because she's secretly the other semi player's step mom intentionally distracting you, but she saw how fresh your fade was and wanted to smash just that minute, anything else would be considered rejection...your choices are as follows A.) slap them cheeks for 5 minutes in the restroom B.) slap them cheeks in the middle of the tournament lobby for 1-10 minutes depending on how fast security catches you C.) ignore her and go play yugioh D.) tell her that you will meet with her after the game (even though this is already disclosed to be the bad ending) E.) leave the tournament entirely and invite her back to your hotel room An answer is not necessary but appreciated, anyone is free to answer as well, thanks you and god bless.
13:58 I think Paul is right that Konami should reboot the Yu-Gi-Oh tcg. I'm talking a complete overhaul and rebuild of the cards and game mechanics. After 25 years, I believe Konami knows what it takes to make an excellent card game by now, and this is their opportunity to redesign Yu-Gi-Oh as the game they always wanted it to be. They need to be aggressive with this for it to succeed. All cards released prior to QCE (Quarter Century Era) are grandfathered into a separate and distinct "legacy" format sanctioned by Konami. Release brand new sets for a newly formed "meta" format in Konami's new generation of Yu-Gi-Oh. Idk what this looks like exactly, but it should be like a return of classic Yu-Gi-Oh but refined and tuned for more fun, thoughtful gameplay.
Yall complaining about the 25th anniversary is almost as old as printing of 25 anniversary cards isn now. The manga came out in 1996, the card game came out in 1999 in Asia, and 2002 in the west. So it makes sense.
Just commenting about Speed Duel. If they allowed us to use the cards we already owned in Speed Duel people would have played it. The fact that we could only use cards with "SPEED DUEL" on it really hurt its chance of success.
Let me just say Halo was always a beautiful story about the horrors of religious zealotry. Definitely some striking statements were at least trying to be made there
I've noticed in every big community I've lurked in, it inevitably devolves into complaining. League of legends, destiny 2, apex, fortnite, Pokémon, yugioh, etc... Like maybe the happy communities are terraria, stardew and no man's sky? It's def a rarity and even outside of games, whether it's art, TV, music... These fandoms just seem so miserable with the constant infighting since they all wanna one up each other on hot takes and bad faith arguments because why would they owe strangers any honesty? Just devolves into insults and in some cases, doxxing. Would rather save myself the headache and just enjoy things the way I want because they love to tell people how to enjoy things and will insult you if you don't adhere to it.
❤ love your content!! Combined with Ruxin you guys got me back into Yugioh. Mostly collecting now as last time I played was in 2006. I play mostly Magic the Gathering now, Commander specifically, and can definitely see a Secret Lair Universes Beyond drop happening in the future featuring some Yugioh crossover cards 😎 haha anyways keep up the awesome content! 🔥❤️🔥
all media is inherently political, video games are included, they don't indoctrinate but they have biases and reflect the subjectivity of the creators. The act of playing as a female, a black person having a main role, a non binary person not being used as a gag, those are political statements inside a game. And that's good, and that's what elon and the far right are afraid of.
All media is not inherently political--that idea reduces the concept of being political into meaningless mush. Even Digital Foundry were called shills in spite of proving with video footage that in terms of the tech, DA: The Veilguard nailed it. The irony is, DA 2 and Inquisition were quite hated and divisive at release and well over a decade later, they are one of the most revered games in gaming.
@1:06:24 WHAAAA??? You can already play ps5 games on the move with PS remote app on phones and PC(and also the very bad version of it in the PlayStation portal 🤮). All you need for these is internet lmao.
You're missing the point about the woke gaming debate again. That's a meaningless distinction. You throw around some vague ephemeral stuff about old games that have "good diversity" and pretend they're different than newer games with "bad diversity". This bogeyman of games made "just be inclusive" lets you bash minorities and still pretend to not be prejudiced. All diversity is the same. All diversity is "for the sake of the world" because real life is diverse. Either take it all or leave it all.
They understand perfectly. Paul said it, everything is political. Complaining about wokeness is just admitting you live in a bubble that has no minorities.
I feel like 99% of video games aren't this "woke" complaint. It's a really stupid complaint. Dustborn, however... that was clearly its foremost if not only selling point. Hey, i just rechecked and Google's recommended marketing description changed.
Yeah, I think I need to stop watching these videos. Still love your game content, but this Podcast series just feels like two people complaining non stop about the internet. Good luck to you guys, no hate, I just need a break from this. I'll still watch your other content.
"Complaints from nongamers". Whoa there, you're starting to sound like the ignorant game journos and developers. Just because you don't agree with their complaints and refuse to see thing from their perspective does not mean what they are saying isn't true or valid nor that they are not gamers. Please do actual research in what gamers are actually complaining about. I'm begging you. There's plenty of people on youtube, including women and people of color, that express their dislike of modern gaming that you can watch to get a better idea of the real discussion.
*Happy Thursday and Happy Thanksgiving! We're thankful that you decided to take out the time and listen this week! So of course, let us know what you think of any of these stories; a few will definitely rustle some feathers, we're sure!* 😆

I would not be surprised if Xavier Woods played a little bit of Yugioh, considering he's had a gaming channel for years.
Well on Monday if you noticed Kofi Kingston was wearing Goku's outfit and Xavier Woods also had on Goku Blacks outfit since he's going to be a heel
When the meta is terrible and the game is dying.

Wait Xavier Woods? That is amazing😭 I watch wrestling a LOT and i had no idea

Would love to see you open a box of Crossover Breakers each.
Then trade with each other, build 2 of the archetypes and duel with them!
Hydreigon has a new card in the main sets that is actually a great centerpiece for a deck :3
Paul: digi-Yugioh > paper Yugioh

Man I’d buy 2 happy meals just to open packs

A.) slap them cheeks for 5 minutes in the restroom
B.) slap them cheeks in the middle of the tournament lobby for 1-10 minutes depending on how fast security catches you
C.) ignore her and go play yugioh

Happy thanksgiving to team APS ❤
Very upset the marketing wasn't there for xaviers shadow duelist event, and WHY FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DOES EVERY BANLIST HIT FLOO
Also happy Thanksgiving everybody hope every masterduel games flips your way

Stopped reading right there. I'm tired of midwits pushing this stupid idea.
Whoever is Heel on Woods is a Babyface to me as I dislike facing Kash.
I think the next shadow duelist should be an actor. Now hear me out. The person should be able to one that can easily draw there fans to yugioh. So I think Joe Locke should be the next one.
I bet they only sold a little amount of that pizza wine to themselves and are now "sold out" to create artificial hype.
I have an adderall prescription and take my adderall when playing because modern yugioh needs so much attention no lie. Need it more than work
As long as it's a prescription!
Women in games, and gay people in games were never an issue (they've been in games since the early / late 2000's 1990's) the issue is, they were characters *who* were gay or female, now they're gay / female instead of a character it removes parts of the game to do that, that's the issue

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Happy Thanksgiving!
Whenever the Masked Duelist guys are revealed, I have no clue who they are 😅 Didn't know the first one and didn't know this one. No hate but just that it's not very exciting to me.
Charizard is not a dragon though. Charizard is a flying/fire type pokemon

I can tell you guys are not dumb based on how you guys didn’t fall for it.
falsebounnd kingdom tho lol
Interesting podcast
Why are y'all pretending to be ignorant to the obvious DEI in contemporary video games, when y'all grew up playing games the way they were? DEI is bad for video games, the best example of gender politics and DEI BS is Concord. And look at what to that game and it's studio.
Why are you afraid of diversity?
Can you explain this more? I'm actually curious what exactly you mean is so bad
Yes. Online communities especially around gaming is HELL. The latest victim of this is DA: The Veilguard where it is a massive victim of the "crows on a wire", “go where the clicks are” mentality that content creators utilize. The popular thing to do is hate on the game and it's the main reason why people have formed opinions before they even played it.
The game was already doomed due to the endless pre launch hate. Why would you want a game to fail? It’s one thing cheering for a game to fail and another to rightfully pan a game when it releases and it falls flat on its face. SITH WOODS soon
Hes gonna turn to the dark side! 💯💪🏾
@1:06:24 WHAAAA??? You can already play ps5 games on the move with PS remote app on phones and PC(and also the very bad version of it in the PlayStation portal 🤮). All you need for these is internet lmao.
