Spent the last 4 months in Silicon Valley at a Electronics Company for a company project. One my dailies was supervising operation of their wastewater system and it used Ignition SCADA. So I got to interact with it for quite a while. The system ran smooth best I’ve observed and was really easy to use. It wasn’t a complicated HMI either, so was easy to figure out. But this wasn’t the design environment of the software so that I haven’t seen. However, a few vids of the design environment would be cool. About 2 years ago we were testing Ignition at our offices. We used the demo. However we also contacted the company and they also gave us a temporary extended demo license for 30 days so we could have a longer testing period. They figured we could end up buying the software so they were willing to extend the free testing period.
Yes, I'm struggling to understand the syntax myself but I can see where it adds a lot of capabilities to Ignition. Let me see if I can get the basics down.
The scripting is Python 2.7 based I believe. Then the "system." commands will open up interaction with the Ignition environment. Learning some Python basics really opened it up for me.
Greeting Mr.Tim, I have a problem with the Ignition Designer launcher, after adding the designer and clicking on open designer it doesn't launch. so I can't get into the UI of the launcher. Do you have any suggestions?
I have to admit, normally I say any old PC will work with PLC software and while it will work Ignition, you'll have to be patient. It is much more memory and graphically intensive. I don't know exactly a good recommendation would be

We are working with it in our training class this week.
Love Ignition! Good stuff! The ability to write Python scripts in the project makes it pretty powerful.
It really is!
Are you going to include any scripting down the road in your videos?

I might have to sign up for a Python class then.

If you go to the start menu, does it show up? Sounds like a botched install or the link is broke.
More ignition videos, please 🙏

Thank you sir 🙏 I'm a new subscriber
That's great!
I am only doing this for learning purposes. What are you all running this software on? Just a standard Windows PC?
