I was always a classic+ advocate but SoD really pushed me over to the "they're just too incompetent and will fuck it up" camp. So the next best thing is TBC Fresh with permanent era for me.
For sure, they absolutely dropped the ball in SoM, and then for SoD they did a great job for p1, and then proceeded to turn the game into an absolute shitter from there. They didn't work on OG vanilla and are nothing like the devs that worked on the game back then. They should just release fresh servers and realise that noone wants them to keep fucking up the game. People wanted #nochanges for a reason and hopefully this season shows people, once again, that blizzard has no idea how to make a good MMO in this day and age.
I would love a fresh restart again! I would come back immediately. A few changes this time around would be nice with it. No gdkp like in SOD, no aoe boost farming like they had in SOM. Implement the gold buying detection, etc.
I'd like to try fresh TBC! I want to be able to try the expansion without having to chose between starting with a disadvantage or having to play through all of classic
I think the best possible move would be to drop progressive classic after Cataclysm (at that point I don't think anyone would consider it "classic") and focus on a slightly accelerated fresh realms of the original trilogy. Make each phase last 4-6 weeks instead of the original 2-3 months, then after Wrath, restart the realms. They could even give different tabards to show progression from the previous "season". And I think "Fresh Hardcore" would actually be great! I would love to see another "Road to Ragnaros" style event, as well as other achievements like scarab lord on hardcore! And having an original trilogy hardcore server progress along with the fresh servers wouldn't take up any additional space in the launcher, it would just be an extra tab in game like it is now with Classic era.
Yeah SoD has long lost any claim to being Classic. It started as a way to explore possibilities of what could be added into eventual Classic+, but it quickly turned into Blizzard's own fun server with massive feature creep they couldn't maintain.
Fresh classic is the perfect tool for buying the classic team time to work on a persistent Classic+. If I were lead of Classic WoW planning and development this would be my plan: 1. Take Cata Classic and all future Classic Expansions and give them to the teams that handle Plunderstorm and MoP remix. 2. Let Aggrend and team finish out SoD. Give them a nice long break, then begin the debrief and retrospective. 3. Build a plan for a persistent Classic+. Do not focus on adding player power or catchup mechanics. Focus on adding literally hundreds of new quests for everything from gear to endgame spells to recipes to summoning new dungeon and raid bosses. 4. A few months after SoD concludes, announce fresh classic. 5. Use all of the time that fresh classic runs (12 to 18 months) as essentially free time to work on developing and testing classic+. 6. A few months after Naxx drops, announce Classic+. Set the PTR date a few weeks out. Give no launch date. 7. Very limited, highly focused PTR testing. Encrypt all game files so that data mining is impossible. 8. Release with phases that are shorter but more numerous. Specifically and explicitly do not cater to the top 5% or the bottom 10% of players. Focus entirely on cultivating a community. Controvercially ban several addons, including weak auras. 9. Enter the platinum era of wow. Redefine what it means to be a "modern" mmorpg. Upend the entire modern gaming industry, demonstrating that good fundamental game design will always have a place despite what MBA bean counters might say about micro transaction revenue. Be the front page of time magazine. Global conflict cools for several years as everyone is too busy enjoying WoW.
This is almost exactly what I was saying too. Classic + if done right can absolutely reignite the hype we saw in 2019. They really need to spend at least a year or two developing it though. It needs to be extremely well thought out and tested, as the rushed development cycle of SoD I think has hurt it in the long run.
Honestly, they could basically copy about 85% of what Turtle WoW does, put some AAA polish on it, and that would be a great Classic+. The team over there is already doing most of what people want.
Funny that private servers are now doing a Fresh progression servers of the first three expansions and those servers are population capped. There IS a market for this and people want it. I know I would drop everything now to play Vanilla again just to have a chance of getting to TBC.
Classic for me is more than just a game. It's a portal back to a time when the world was just simpler. Wow has changed in a lot of ways in the past 20 years, and I felt myself growing more distant as microtransactions, character boosts, and all those bloody toy things arrived. With the launch of classic (2000's launch), we were so amazed by this game, and so it's not surprising that we would want more. How could we know we were moving away from such a great thing! More fuelled more, money become a priority, and we got what we got. Each to their own, but I'm just grateful Classic is still a thing.
Thinking about starting WOW never played before but have always wanted to try it out and by the sounds of it classics is a much better MMO experience then Retail.
If TBC servers had been kept I’d be doing fresh TBC on repeat. Loved it way more than any of the other classic experiences. I’m really hoping SoD goes into TBC for another chance to play it through 🤞🏻
The beauty of running through the world with tons of other players is my main draw. I love the chaos, social aspect, shared experience, and parallel progression It's unique, especially classic WoW compared to modern retail/other MMOs where everything is shared and passive. There was nothing like creating a new character, watching the intro and seeing all these players run around where you start at. It's disheartening to want to level through a dead world/server, and less likely to stick with it. Classic is one of those few gaming experiences that really captures that MMO feel during a fresh release. It's still on of the best/favorite gaming experiences that only ever happens through a fresh release, or a new MMO launch, and I always have great memories from each one. 1-60 Classic is a good RPG game with other people and there will always be a want for that now and then.
Their should be a rotation to WoW's Classic progression servers: Step 0. Vanilla "museum" servers already exist Step 1. Release Vanilla Refresh 1 Step 2a. Give players option to copy/duplicate/transfer characters to Museum Vanilla or continue to TBC Step 2b. Release Warlords of Draenor Remix on Retail Step 3. Release TBC Refresh 1 Step 4. Release Legion Remix on Retail Step 5. Release Wrath Fresh 1 Step 6a. Give players option to copy/duplicate/transfer characters to Museum Wrath or continue to Cata Step 6b. Release Battle for Azeroth Remix on Retail Step 7. Release Cata Refresh 1 Step 7. Release Vanilla Refresh 2 etc. Maybe a 2.5-3 year cycle. That's a money maker for at least two or three more cycles.
I honestly believe the best way to do a fresh release is to implement a staggered level cap. It would start at level 30 for the first week of release, then 45, then 55, then 60. This is the way to stop people rushing to 60 and raid, and give them more time to enjoy leveling and make friends. It would give people time to prepare for raiding, but there's a lot for a raid that you need to do at level 60. Plus, it's only a week each phase, so there wouldn't be that much time to be a overprepare anyway.
At 9:40 you may get hit by a nostalgic desire to roll Tauren on Classic Then you watch how 3x wrath drains all your mana and leaves a 25% mob for you to smash with your staff I'm good....
You guys are coming back? I never left. We are not the same. Edit: One note on battlegrounds. They do pop outside of Holiday weekends. I have been ranking to R14, and you can do WSG throughout the day with only 10 minute ques roughly. So they are fairly active
Fun Fact: EverQuest hit its 25 year anniversary earlier this year. They're still releasing expansions for EQ1. Another fun fact: EverQuest started releasing their progression servers in June, 2006. They released two more this year, in 2024. l WoW releasing Classic/Progression servers into the 2030s shouldn't be unexpected.
All i wish for is a real Classic +, with balance and new content BUT not SoD bs thing.. Just classic with new things out and not farming the same damn thing with the exact same blocked comp of dps etc
I would like to play the Vanilla to Wrath loop again, try alliance this time around. Maybe if blizzard sees the interest in a fresh classic like 2019 they could announce something on the 20th anniversary in November. Probably wishful thinking though, it would need to come out after SoD is over.
Can you make a video talking about the concept of 3 era servers (vanilla, bc, wotlk) and the ability to progress into the next expansion on your own terms?
@@seagullphilosopher2173 I've joined their community discord server, barely had 300 people on it with less than 50 online. Imo TBC was perfect WoW iteration. Everything that was planned for original vanilla was later implemented in TBC so there we have full, perfect vision of what World of Warcraft should be.
Frankly, I was done with Season of Discovery after the very first season. I really enjoyed it, it was novel, very easy to level up alts (managed to get all classes to max) and there were lots of opportunities to socialize and take it easy. It really felt a lot like mid-late Vanilla back in 2006, with people asking for help or advice, quite a bit of chat going on etc. However, the following seasons mostly added stuff we already had in expansions and they further made the game feel more like modern. Too much convenience, too many unnecessary features, etc, the "Seasonal" non-permanent feeling really started setting in. I would much rather play proper Vanilla Classic at this point.
phase 1 was an absolute blast I never tried phase 2 something different I would enjoy now is a season where all mobs are elite, that would be an interesting experience
I know not many will be able to jave this experience. But from 05 till 2 weeks ago ive only ever played a horde. I made an ally one time and leveled to like 10 maybe. But that was it. Now im on a fresh server fresh everything. And its packed with players and its honestly as close to going back to 05 as it can get for me. As these starting levels as a nightelf are all totaly new and strange to me. And the lore behind it is awesome. Im actually enjoying this quite a bit!!!
Classic plus, classic plus, classic plus. People have been saying it before it was a thing, people were saying it during classic "durr hurr we don't even know if they'll even do TBC hurr" now we're in cataclysm. Season of discovery was not it.
After playing SoD with the QoL changes, going back to Classic does not sound appealing at all - Especially as a hunter FINALLY being able to trap in combat again.
I have the opposite, SoD was fun but now I find myself playing era and realizing the old jank is a lot better than the retail-lite jank. Feral without the extra runes feels a lot better than its current state of being a totem in SoD.
There is a lot of people, counting myself and nearly my entire guild on sod, who don't go back to era because its a p6 server. Fresh would bring in so many people considering many played sod because it was fresh.
@@keelhld94 Nonetheless, if you find a fresh guild (of which there are many), it is somewhat close. There are leveling guilds and early MC guilds on era right now.
TBC seems to be the weakest of the OG 3 when it comes to popularity. If they ever want to include content from TBC and/or Wrath to classic, they should do what other mmorpgs did. Create small time event within the original world. A good example of this is the zombie plagued event from Woltk. For TBC, you could do a Fel invasion event where a randome city starts getting invaded by demons from the dark portal
@@tarron3237 Bro TBC was popping wdym. So much that Blizz came out begging on the forums for people to transfer to smaller realms before Wrath launched. Now look at that same "momentum" that wrath brought into Cata launch.. It's not even remotely comparable lol. It literally follows the original subscriber graph again, Vanilla and TBC doing all the legwork, Wrath tearing it all down, and Cata putting the nail in the coffin. EDIT: It's also a funny coincidence that classic era & SoM were ultra dead during TBC. Then Wrath drops and suddenly they get a resurgence. If you cannot see that Wrath was the overrated one by now, no amount of evidence can convince you.
I have just started playing WoW for the first time and am enjoying my quiet, solo RP server, but I may have to try Deviate Delights due to the positive comments! Great video 😊
@narhwallord6985 I played alliance so I missed it too but there were alot of people who rerolled alliance because they were tired of all the bullshit lol
TBH i feel like cata is a more complete and fair version of wotlk's design. ive had a blast going between cata raidlogging and lvling on DD. shit is dope
there a super easy fix to this. Do what Remix did but for Classic. (half year for 1 era each then swap to next era when half year is over.) Level a hero from Level X to Level Y (minumal requirement to level cap of the time) and then you get a choice to go into next expantion with rewards for chaining the eras. Let say you started in BC then when even over you can go to Wrath of Lichking or be send to catalysem or stay in classic but not allowed have that character rejoin the event and have make a new one.
The problem with new fresh servers is the population will decline each time a new one opens. Sure, lots of people levelling at first - but good luck finding 39 people to raid with. Once every few years? Sure. So long as there's not too many options at once to divide the player base. The issue currently is we've got so many versions of WoW and its such a time consumer that playing more then one is a daunting task to anyone with any sort of time restrictions. So do you pick Era, Hardcore, Seasonal or Progression? Its a tough one to solve that makes everyone happy. Would I play a fresh Vanilla server? Maybe. Though probably not for long, since I have other things I want to do and I'm currently enjoying Cataclysm well enough (and like the people I play with). The notion of having less time to do other things and meeting new people is a bit much for me right now - so if I did it would be super casual.
Blizzard is feeding on the fomo/collection fantasy again in cata without actually adding anything good. If you enjoy cata, you'd enjoy retail too. They need to let us have our actual classic servers back before the sub count drops again. (I already canceled mine in hopes "voting with my wallet" will eventually make an impact for era/tbc servers.)
@@andromidius I didn't say that it was, what I said was, "if you enjoy cata, you'd enjoy retail too." It has the same themes. Cata is go from achievement to achievement, mount to mount. While the gameplay might not feel completely the same, it might as well have the same sentiment behind it from this expansion forward.
I've always enjoyed the leveling process of the original world, never been much of a raider due to time and life commitments. The one thing that bothers me in the current state of classic is that there is not an option for people that want to level in the original vanilla world, but also progress their character through the expansions on classic. If I want to level a new character through Cata, I don't have the option to do so unless I level in the Cata version of the game. I'm sure there are technical hurdles Blizzard would need to get past, but maintaining a version of the game that would allow me to level in the vanilla version of the game, then essentially transfer to a BC version of the game, Wrath, and then Cata would be so great for people like me or anyone who wants to level a character to a specific version of the game and then stop. As always, great video.
I think if they did three servers that had a constant rotation, that'd be perfect. Each server would rotate from Classic to TBC to WOTLK. Anyone could play any version of the game they desired (or even if we only had 1 server that rotated that'd be fine too, then you can just join in when it's your year or so to go again) Could be just a set it and forget it kind of thing with blizzard monitoring for bots taking over and your character would just get moved somewhere else when the trilogy came to an end.
Not for me. I have levelled every class to 60 (some twice), mastered every raid and dungeon, achieved Rank 14 on multiple characters, and conquered solo-self-found hardcore. There really isn't anything left for me to do. I dabbled a bit in Wrath but stopped when they introduced the WoW Token. I don't care for Cataclysm. TBC would be cool to play again.
It's true imo. Way less toxic. I resubbed to catch up after skipping p3. The first thing I did was try to find an incursion to do. I didn't know how loops worked and started clearing each quest on our first go around. I was bitched at constantly in the only group I could find because I didn't know the optimal way to run the content. This hasn't happened to me on TWoW. On the contrary, people are always helpful when asking questions about the custom content. Turned me off entirely.
@jmcke802 the whole world is just toxic. Give it a week people will break your spirit on turtle aswell. You also explained a scenario you were weeks behind with Incursions, if I seen someone killing while we all ran by we would all go what you doing mate? Join a new raid on turtle and see how the community handles you not knowing mechanics, I'd bet it's the same.
The Deviat Delight fresh just seems VERY streamer forced. These streamers have proven to just fall off the map and go to a different game the minute something new is out so I just cannot trust it given the time investment needed. Though, as a Cataclysm player, if Blizz released actual Fresh Classic servers with minimal changes (only QoL changes like chrono) then I would be very very interested. I might even drop Cataclysm to focus on leveling.
I had a feeling it was exactly this. There is plenty of raid logging already in cata p1 and sod p4 soonish so there is kind of a lull in content.. So whats better to drum up views then F R E S H. Would be cool to be wrong but gut tells me once SoD p4 is out and then cata p2 this fresh project will be dead.
Era is filled with nothing but LOW POPULATION realms other than the PvP which are medium. It's time for Blizzard to do a full relaunch of Era realms. Wipe them clean and fix any gold farming exploits!!!!
I want to play classic again. Not only fresh but at my DnD table. Currently adapting the open world feel for my group. It's a lot of fun thinking about the human story and how to reveal it at table. About half my players know the plot.

But yes, please give us true fresh realms - where everyone start from lvl 1, so you can level together

i do wish they'd give us a fresh TBC server which has lv 60 limit for like 1 to 2 months for people to lvl up, gear up, and prepeare for tbc and then unlock outlands.
That would be one way to go. It would be a vanilla-light for the first two months where people would still gather naxx gear in prep for TBC.
Friendly reminder that seasonal servers aren't classic plus, they are retail minus.
Exactly ive been telling them this since sod announcement
I was always a classic+ advocate but SoD really pushed me over to the "they're just too incompetent and will fuck it up" camp.
So the next best thing is TBC Fresh with permanent era for me.
turtle wow showed me how classic plus should look like
For sure, they absolutely dropped the ball in SoM, and then for SoD they did a great job for p1, and then proceeded to turn the game into an absolute shitter from there.
@@pjrotsaert2832 you quite literally summed up my exact feelings. The SoD devs are wasting time tbh.

Same. I’m hoping SoD goes into TBC. I want to rerun it.
Why does Hardcore need fresh at all? With the cyclical nature of new runs always happening it should constantly be active.
True, it is
hardcore is not relevant to this conversation
I want TBC and WOTLK back
If you want fresh TBC check out Crusader-Storm private server. Just launched last week and looking nice, they use TBC Classic client (2.5.3)
I love the leveling aspect and the pre raid bis phase but once we hit the world buff circus im done...
Yeah SoD has long lost any claim to being Classic. It started as a way to explore possibilities of what could be added into eventual Classic+, but it quickly turned into Blizzard's own fun server with massive feature creep they couldn't maintain.
It turned into retail.

Fresh classic is the perfect tool for buying the classic team time to work on a persistent Classic+. If I were lead of Classic WoW planning and development this would be my plan:
I am praying to any God that wants to hear me, please let this be the exact plan.
the rare, well thought out youtube comment.
The team over there is already doing most of what people want.
and also, they should experiment with minor changes, not big changes like on sod
Funny that private servers are now doing a Fresh progression servers of the first three expansions and those servers are population capped. There IS a market for this and people want it. I know I would drop everything now to play Vanilla again just to have a chance of getting to TBC.
I want a real fresh so bad
Classic for me is more than just a game. It's a portal back to a time when the world was just simpler. Wow has changed in a lot of ways in the past 20 years, and I felt myself growing more distant as microtransactions, character boosts, and all those bloody toy things arrived. With the launch of classic (2000's launch), we were so amazed by this game, and so it's not surprising that we would want more. How could we know we were moving away from such a great thing! More fuelled more, money become a priority, and we got what we got. Each to their own, but I'm just grateful Classic is still a thing.
You said "stimulating" twice when I think you meant "simulating"?

Thinking about starting WOW never played before but have always wanted to try it out and by the sounds of it classics is a much better MMO experience then Retail.
If TBC servers had been kept I’d be doing fresh TBC on repeat. Loved it way more than any of the other classic experiences. I’m really hoping SoD goes into TBC for another chance to play it through 🤞🏻
same here!
They should drop a fresh classic on the 20th anniversary.
Their should be a rotation to WoW's Classic progression servers:
Step 0. Vanilla "museum" servers already exist
Step 1. Release Vanilla Refresh 1
Step 2a. Give players option to copy/duplicate/transfer characters to Museum Vanilla or continue to TBC
Step 2b. Release Warlords of Draenor Remix on Retail
Step 3. Release TBC Refresh 1
Step 4. Release Legion Remix on Retail
Step 5. Release Wrath Fresh 1
Step 6a. Give players option to copy/duplicate/transfer characters to Museum Wrath or continue to Cata
Step 6b. Release Battle for Azeroth Remix on Retail
Step 7. Release Cata Refresh 1
Step 7. Release Vanilla Refresh 2
etc.
Maybe a 2.5-3 year cycle. That's a money maker for at least two or three more cycles.
EU Zandalar Tribe. Fresh movement . Join us!
Hell yea
The movement is real!❤
That server is very low populated
I honestly believe the best way to do a fresh release is to implement a staggered level cap. It would start at level 30 for the first week of release, then 45, then 55, then 60. This is the way to stop people rushing to 60 and raid, and give them more time to enjoy leveling and make friends. It would give people time to prepare for raiding, but there's a lot for a raid that you need to do at level 60. Plus, it's only a week each phase, so there wouldn't be that much time to be a overprepare anyway.
At 9:40 you may get hit by a nostalgic desire to roll Tauren on Classic
Then you watch how 3x wrath drains all your mana and leaves a 25% mob for you to smash with your staff

Classic WoW Moment

That’s my issue. Hunter warrior and paladin feel so good in SoD the thought of playing them in classic doesn’t seem appealing anymore
I have the opposite, SoD was fun but now I find myself playing era and realizing the old jank is a lot better than the retail-lite jank. Feral without the extra runes feels a lot better than its current state of being a totem in SoD.

We need TBC fresh, but blizzard somehow hates TBC
TBC seems to be the weakest of the OG 3 when it comes to popularity.
If they ever want to include content from TBC and/or Wrath to classic, they should do what other mmorpgs did. Create small time event within the original world.
A good example of this is the zombie plagued event from Woltk. For TBC, you could do a Fel invasion event where a randome city starts getting invaded by demons from the dark portal
That's what everyone said. Then TBC classic dropped and it kinda went not so well
@@tarron3237 Bro TBC was popping wdym.

Given the amount of people playing on the "fresh" server deviate, I think it's time for official fresh 😅
Redoing the classic trilogy again is probably the best option for blizzard
there a super easy fix to this. Do what Remix did but for Classic. (half year for 1 era each then swap to next era when half year is over.)
Level a hero from Level X to Level Y (minumal requirement to level cap of the time) and then you get a choice to go into next expantion with rewards for chaining the eras.
@@Oolong_Bagged Cata isn't much like Retail at all though.
I casually play Vanilla Classic HC and i only play it because there is no TBC server around and Vanilla Classic is it's closest thing.
its over...
Just play on Turtle WoW guys

no
It is fresh? No.
I think if they did three servers that had a constant rotation, that'd be perfect.
Each server would rotate from Classic to TBC to WOTLK. Anyone could play any version of the game they desired (or even if we only had 1 server that rotated that'd be fine too, then you can just join in when it's your year or so to go again)
Could be just a set it and forget it kind of thing with blizzard monitoring for bots taking over and your character would just get moved somewhere else when the trilogy came to an end.
I think a fresh with all content available at launch would be interesting.

The Deviat Delight fresh just seems VERY streamer forced.
