  • Power changes hands quite a few times throughout the series. First Let’s talk about the imperial seats of one of the most powerful great houses in the Dune universe House Corrino. Now house Corrino originated on the planet Salusa Secundus which was known for being a hard world.

Is the first book a self contained story? Or does it end on some cliffhanger, where you have to keep going? I'm already intimidated by the first book. I don't think I can commit to all the books without knowing if I even like the first one.

I read the Dune novels as a teenager. My family just moved to the city and I didn't have friends yet. I spent the summer of 1987 absorbed by these books.
I have to say, that I really enjoy these clips you create. You do an excellent job with your narrations. I really like the way you use the tone in your voice to shape the mood of the subject matter.
You have a unique talent putting this all together.
    Keep up the good work!

hey man. been a fan of the channel for a good while. I especially love your long form stuff when its all animated or VO with pictures- really great stuff to just chill out to. some of the time i lose interest in your channel when it's regarding IRL stuff, speculation or news regarding film or tv stuff- since its a contrast from those epic long vids i love. I really like what you have been doing lately- continuously improving your quality of the long form stuff while incorporating some of those elements into the shorter vids and adding in your face/ snazzy-as-hell outfits; HOWEVER it is the very last bit of THIS video that explains to me the essence that draws me back to this channel over and over- that is a fucking rad god damn book and it looks slick as shit and I appreciate how genuinely excited you are about it. thanks again man, looking forward to more.

To be honest I have never read I've never read any of the books involving the machine war.
The Butlerian Jihad was meant to provide explanation as to why all these groups and technologies existed and nothing more.
To drag them out like some comic book or manga villain waiting in the wings for its last panel reveal cheapens the whole and is not really on point with the narrative.
But anyway that of course is just my opinion, but I suspect I may not be alone in it.
By the way did you ever get around to checking out the "Dosadi experiment"?
    It's part of the ConSentiency series(book 2) but it's a standalone story.

One of the most surprising nations to exist in the Dune universe are the Jews. They still live and cling to their Torah scrolls. Their role in the Dune universe may be an interesting episode as they seem to be the only nation to still commemorate the old Earth and they have an episodic role in the later books.

Images from Lynch's Dune... Paul was not Kyle McLaughlin! Paul was barely a teenager in the original novel.
And the non-Herbert novels... ummm - I dunno. Not a hater, but not really a fan either. To my reckoning, there are six Dune novels, then a bunch of fan fiction of varying degrees of quality...
The saga really ends with "Heretics of Dune". IMHO, of course

I really do feel like one of the things that makes Dune work so well, is that there is no sapient alien life. That concept can bog down a sci-fi universe SO fast. Writers want/have to elaborate on alien biology/culture, and before you know it the story becomes like 50% a made up school-book.
Yet, he still has fun with the idea of humans evolving/genetically engineering along different routes. Even the idea of true Eugenics with the Bene Geserit. So you can still have wildly different "beings" but who are still at the core, human.

Two ways to bring back Frank Herbert so he could write the true seventh Dune boik and give the series a proper conclusion:
    1. Turn Brian Herbert into an abomination by force-feeding him a shitton of spice and then letting the Frank Herbert persona to take control and possess Brian Herbert.
    2. Dig Frank Herbert's grave to collect genetic material to make a ghola out of him, then let him read Brian Herbert's work so he could have a traumatic experience, which in turn would trigger him to "remember" his ghola past.

I really like your Dune content, despite knowing most of what you cover. It’s just nice to know that someone else likes this stuff too. Please keep it coming!
As an idea, perhaps you could talk about the physical size of the Dune universe. I’ve never been quite clear as to whether or not humans had spread beyond the Milky Way or not. Many of the systems in Herbert’s stories are centered around stars in our galaxy, but a few times the scope of human civilization was made to feel extra-galactic...
You could do a video about the economy, both planetary and galactic and how spice affects it, demonstrating its value and buying power.
