Making Gill as captain was a wrong move from BCCI. Since Ruturaj and co. won Asian Games under his captaincy in 2023, so BCCI should have been persist on Rutu as captain. Making 7-8 captains in 2021-22 in T20is had an adverse effect on team selection and management itself
This guy, Gill, is always in the starting 11 or in the squad or as a reserve player, now they even made him the captain ahead of Rutu. He is selected because of his relationship with Sachin's daughter, Sara, and the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, who is also from Mumbai. Even Rohit had to drop Ishan for Gill after scoring a 200. Now again, why was Abhi dropped to 3 after scoring a 100 as an opener? This is unacceptable!

Clearly partiality ho raha hai aur woh dikh bhi raha hai. What is the job of openers? I think they are not suppose to save wickets till the end and to accelerate at the end. They are suppose to fire from ball number 1 and utalised the opportunity of only two fielders outside the 30 yard circle during the powerplay. And the position of no.3 is to handle the situation of the middle overs and guide the team throughout that middle phase of the game, playing an anchoring role. Openers are the players who gives you a solid start, let it be 0-1 or 60-0, in the powerplays. Gill and Rituraj are stroke makers and pure batsman's whose strength is to play all that cricketing strokes not trying anything unusual. And they are perfect players for the position of no.3. Let us be very clearly that they both can't be in the same playing XI, and to fit them both in the same playing XI you have to let Gill open and bring Rituraj down. Which will be doing injustice with a genuine T20 format opener. This series is an eye opener for us and i think BCCI and the selectors have done a great job sending all the youngsters not letting any senior player play in these series. And i am sorry to say this but if, in future you make Gill the T20 format captain he will do injustice with a genuine opener, let it be Jaiswal or Abhishek. Because he will also open from the other end. This will destroy a genuine opener, and you just saw the example of it in today's match itself. We don't our team to become like the Pakistani cricket team please. Gill is a perfect opener for the ODI format and no one is denying that fact. But in T20's, you need openers who can fire from both end because there might be one day where one opener might be struggling and at that time the other opener gives him the time to settle down. If you go with a perfect batsman in the opening slot, then you might struggle to score within the whole powerplay if the other opener is struggling from the other end. You might end up with 0 wickets down in the powerplay scoring at the rate of 6/7 runs per over, but if your combination is fire from one end and perfect stroke maker from the other, this will not help you to play the middle overs quietly with freedom for a little time. You will have the pressure of scoring because you missed the chance to score during the powerplay. For me in the T20's Jaiswal and Abhishek are the best openers because they both can fire at the same intensity. And even if one is struggling, the other not make him feel the pressure because he will score at a good rate from the other end. And after a solid start from them, then you can have Gill or Rituraj whoever you want at no.3 so that he can anchor from one end for the whole middle phase and accelerate at the end 4-5 overs after knowing the wicket very well. But remember Gill and Rituraj both can't be on the same team in T20's, only one of them can play. You can have them both for there form in any normal series but not in the WC stages. Sky will be the no.4, Pant/Samson at 5, Hardik 6, Axar 7 and so on. Now you might test other players and bring the best out of them and also make them get experienced. That's okay. 😊
