I really like how all your supplies are in drawers and cabinets and not on display. Thread, fabric yarn all go bad in the air. Thx for showing.
Great video! Sewing comfortably is so important! My only suggestion to make crafting easier, would be to sort your space into zones, like sewing, wrapping, crafting, etc., and put all things for each hobby in it's zone. That way you don't have to search for sewing things mixed in with art supplies. It works wonders on your productivity🤗. Cheers and happy crafting.
I love the cabinet for the fabric. It is awesome to be able to see what you have
What an exquisite Studio!! The white walls make it bright, clean looking, and and cheery!! Namaste ✌️🥰🐞🤗
You have a wonderful craft room, and now even better, it is alot like mine with the big 60" cutting mat on table in center. It just so happens that I've been organizing my sewing room since the end of August, its so much better but may need another month to hopefully finnish so I can sew again. I dont know how it gets so messy that I can't even sew. Gonna really try to stay on it and do things different from now on. I have so much beautiful fabric that I feel a little (a lot) guilty for buying, but it's not so bad when I have all I need and rarely need to run to the store for something, and I think the stuff I have is a better quality that what is out there now and much more affordable too.
Can I get a whitness! 😄😎
I hear you girl. I love fabric and used to feel guilty having so much, but sometimes it does payoff. Last winter making face masks and when you couldn't get fabric, I did have my stash to rely on. :). I got this from my grandmother who loved fabric too. Have fun organizing and sewing!
I just love these small spaces tours. It gives me inspirational ideas to do with my small space of happiness.
Thank you for your video. 😊
I love your space. I am in a one bedroom townhouse and try so hard to get organized. I have been influenced to try harder to get some space and organize. I look forward to getting my crocheting patterns, hooks yarn, drawing supplies and sewing stuff organized. Right now I have bits and pieces all over the place. I am looking forward to something new. Thanks for the ideas.
You are so welcome! It's always nice to get things organized and change things out a bit. Good luck and have fun with your organizing endeavor!
Looks so marvelous!!! I absolutely love working in a clutter free organized space. :)
The white paint made such a difference! Love the way it is looking now. Well done because I know it takes a lot of thought energy and physical energy to do this. I love the ruler storage idea and I have the peg boards and love them. 💕
I started organizing g my sewing g space last winter and it made such an improvement. Next is painting the walls. And then building a cutting a cutting table using our old kitchen cabinets. Going thru drawers and boxes took time but I was also able to throw out or donate what I knew I didn't or wouldn't use. Thank you for your inspiration
I bought the Ikea Malm desk for my sewing machine and serger. I love how I can turn from sewing and run a project through my serger.
Hi Jan, I love the changes you made to your sewing and craft room. I'm excited for you! I, like you have a lot of stuff....it really helps to be organized and makes creating a lot more fun! Thanks for sharing!!!
I love your sewing room. It looks awesome. I finally solved my storage issue in my small sewing space ( I use the smallest of the bedrooms in our house as my sewing room). I went with the Ivar system from IKEA, and instead of spending extra on doors or drawers, I'm keeping it simple and will use bins on the shelving, and eventually will close it off with some nice handmade curtains. I'm so excited to reorganize my space, and to get my fabric organized. I hope I can find your video on how to organize fabric.
That's a great idea. Here is the link to the fabric organization video ua-cam.com/video/IgS4hOOIqMQ/v-deo.htmlsi=44uEEmJp-lkF-2uu
I like the curtain idea. It sounds nice! I am working on my sewing room, too, and it is fun!
I love the white walls!! Your space looks amazing! It takes quite a while to organize but it so worth it!!
Thanks Jan I really enjoyed everything the tour and ikea one of my favorite places to shop.☺️💃.
Thank you for your reply. I need a sturdy table similar to yours at that height. Difficult to find!
Keep your eyes peeled at thrift stores and ikea always has some nice tables
Your convenient, organized studio is awesome! Hopefully you've upgraded your chair since you filmed it. I LOVE my spinny office chair for sewing! My ironing station is the same height behind me, so i sew spin press spin sew!
Instead of throwing all that in the trash, you should donate it. I'm all for keeping things out of the landfill if possible. Either donate or sell.😊❤
Awesome area for crafting. Fantastic ideas, my room is a quarter of this so storage is tight. Oh i am in England and we don't have basements
Excellent video - love how you store the bias tapes in that clear divided bin - tfs - I subbed!
Thank you. Very nice sewing craft room. I liked your vibe and I subscribed. Btw, your haircut is adorable. I'm Vickie from NY. Wife , mom and grandma ....secondarily Artist/sewer/crafter and more apparently like you. Good job. Your room is gorgeous.
Oh thank you! So nice you followed Vickie, hope you can find some things here that you enjoy!
Thanks so much for showing your sewing room’s project makeover. It’s so excited that I want to change mine too.
The lower table’s really making sense. I would like to know what’s the name of black table you bought at IKEA, did you buy the table’s legs separately and how long are they ?
Thankyou,
Tina Nguyen
Hi Tina, the table I got from Ikea has been discontinued. That's why I bought it a couple of years ago because they had it marked down.
It's a good basic table and the legs came with it. It has a leaf so you can extend it. I have a bigger table similar in my dining room, but it's bigger. I don't think they carry it anymore either. You'll have to take a look at their website. They have a pretty good selection, better yet, check online for used ikea tables.
Hey, Jan. I really like your letter "J" on the wall. Did you make that? If you did, would love a tutorial. Along the same lines, it would be nice to make some letter pillows for kids.
Thanks. I did not make the letter J. It's a cardboard form covered with fabric. You can get them at craft and fabric stores.
Also, I can NOT get hubby convinced to pull out the 1984 carpet and just do tile or linoleum, anything! It is a basement, he is concerned it will be cold, plus $$$$ but man i hate carpet when in sewing area!
In the middle of watching but I had to stop and ask where did you get the round bobbin holders?. Also ima new subscriber. Thanks to UA-cam for suggesting you to me.
Is there a link to the Cutting Mat? Your updates are very nice. I LOVE IKEA!
Hi Lori, here is the link to the cutting mat. I'm getting ready to do a tutorial on mats and cutters here in the near future, so watch for that.

I’ve been looking for the perfect sewing/cutting table! I love yours! Where is it from? Do u have a link?
I got it at Ikea. They discontinued it :(. You may try looking online for used ikea furniture.
Very helpful video. Heading to IKEA soon. Where did you get your ribbon holder?
What type of patterns are you putting in the manilla envelopes? I like that look!. I lack cabinets with drawers. I have a hodgepodge of gifted old furniture, grateful, but i need to get organized too.
So many heavy totes of material that are stacked and so hard to move around all the time. Only been in this home (my first ever home) since Nov. 2019 and it has been SO hard to get it organized!!
I need someone like you to come in and do a "keep, donate or trash" organization and REORGANIZE so i can be successful!
Hello Annajean, I store my patterns in manilla envelopes. Most of them are digital patterns that I have printed out. I do have a video tutorial with some suggestions here. ua-cam.com/video/zPn3eGlygKA/v-deo.html
As far as your crafting/sewing space, start with one area at a time. Do it in chunks so you don't get overwhelmed.
We have an older home and have remodeled the whole thing a little at a time. NOTHING WOULD HAVE EVER GOTTEN DONE, if I waited for my husband to be on board with it. That's the first thing I did was start ripping out carpets. He would come home from work and find a roll of carpet in the driveway, or a hole knocked in the wall. I'm not saying go against your husbands wishes, however, sometimes that's what has to be done to get things done. Life is too short to live in space that doesn't' feel good. Do what you can and work with your husband. Maybe he doesn't know how important it is to you. A little at a time my friend. You may be interested in some of the content on my blog. youmakeitsimple.com/ Enjoy your day and keep smiling.
Hi Jan… you have a beautiful sewing room… ??? Where did you get those cases that house your bobbins. Thanks
Hi Jan, would you mind sharing the black table information, please? I have an IKEA 15 minutes away and would like that table, yoo!
What size is your sewing/craft room? We are planning to build a room onto our house for my sewing and a futon for our grandkids when they visit. I've been looking at Ikea for storage and shelving ideas. Love your videos and look forward to how you store fabric.
My sewing room measures 15 1/2 x 12 ft. If I were building a new house, it would be even bigger. LOL. I would like to have a space to do my watercolor and leave it out as well. (TOO MANY INTERESTS). :)
@@JanHowell thanks for your reply. I enjoy many hobbies also but it would be too large of a room. I've enjoyed your tutorials a lot.
What is the table you put in for lower sewing height? Your two sewing machines are on it? Is it Ikea?
Yes it’s an ikea table. However I don’t think they stock that one anymore
Could you please share the link for your cutting mat?
You can find the link in this tutorial ua-cam.com/video/tMz0wfoKRKU/v-deo.html
Where did you purchase your white cutting mat?
I got it on Etsy.
Here is a link to the blog post where I give some more details about mats and cutters.

Curious what you use the jute thread for?
I use it to gather fabric, tie project pieces together to make piping as well. Between sewing and gardening I use up alot. I like that huge spool!
Great video. Just two comments. I noticed an electrical bar right behind your sink faucet. Please at least raise it up several inches to hang on wall. That is an electrical disaster waiting to happen. Second thing, I think of you as the recycle queen and was disappointed to see you throw out a trash can full of things you took from the drawers of big cabinet. Tell me it was not usable to a donate center? Otherwise it was fun to see where you create so many great items.
Thanks for the comment and suggestions. Yes, I did donate and gave a bunch of stuff away to the thrift store. The stuff that went in the trash was not useable or damaged. Thanks for your concern :)
😮 you should have gave to your local thrift store, than throw away in your trash can!
I take a ton of stuff to the thrift store, but some things are too far gone for the thrift store.
That was a well-done makeover and it looks great. Love your channel.
Thanks. You are so kind!
