It was so good to see Rosalind Plowright triumph as Fricka. Many of us loved her singing in her soprano years too, but as a Mezzo she has deservedly obtained her place as one of the world's finest singing actresses. A Damehood would be merited.
Wish someone would post the whole of this performance of the opera! Also if someones got Horowitz’s return performance in Moscow that would be nice too.
Who needs crazy directors with sets and costumes from outer space?! THIS was a monumental performance with the greatest artists. They brought the story to life with their voices and souls.
La Belle Dame Sans Merci, Rosalind Plowright's recital disc with Philip Mountford, piano. Rosalind's new recital disc is available on the 6th May 2014, see this short clip for an idea on content and purchase.
I can't understand why Plowright has never been invited to sing Fricka at the Bayreuth Festival. She is streets ahead of many of the screaming shouting singers of today who dare to call themselves Wagnerian singers. And she can act too, by God she can act!

Agreed, all fabulous.........Plowright was a sensation.
Great stuff
Would love to have heard Plowright at the MET as Fricka!
She tempers imperiousness with seductiveness. She looks and sounds remarkable!
They did a GREAT job... but Plowright WOW!!!!
Powerful stuff !!

She has a rich, strong voice and is outstanding as a Wagnerian mezzo here.
Great Terfel, but Plowright as Fricka is stunning: what a wonderful voice.
