@@mrdabrow idk, I'm just saying it's something I've noticed because I've been having a hard time finding his old music, could only find it through reuploads
Old vid but I still disagree with NXP himself. Does he not remember literally 3-4 years before this, he was called "school shooter", making tribute songs to mass shooters, and every other song was about bitter incel themes. so why would he be confused that the scene got known as incelcore? there's a lot of stuff that can be considered bedroom punk, incelcore can be considered a more specific subgenre of bedroom punk then. cuz again, not every soundcloud guy recording edgy songs in their room, is making songs about elliot rodger, nikolas cruz, seung hui cho, etc. that was the whole theme and what got you started, making songs about the feeling of being an outcasted loser with no friends, gets no girls, hates everything. it was very unique at the time and there wasn't much like it.
At the time it was very unique but throughout the history of punk I don’t think it’s that uncommon to sing about being bitter about a girl, or even about rioting or being skinheads. It’s not exactly the same but school shootings weren’t as common in the 80s but the LA riots had just happened so they included those themes. To me it really seems like punk got rebranded into a safe package and I feel NXP is more punk than most bands calling themselves punk nowadays because he actually cuts against the grain, rather than just following a visual and auditory aesthetic. It’s no longer really counter culture to wear black and have tattoos and do drugs. It’s pretty much just a style choice now.
@@garrcarro2063 Of course punk has those themes, and SS music was always a type of punk. Incelcore is just a more specific type to me. It's not just about being bitter about women, that's a very broad topic and lots of music in every genre could be said to be about that as well. But more specifically it's about being an outcast loser, unable to connect with people, nobody takes them seriously, treated like they are mentally ill. Now that is a very different thing considering that generally, you had to have a charismatic presence to even be a rockstar back in the day. So before internet era IMO this kind of theme didn't really exist. People weren't really writing punk songs about being a loser incel with no hopes or friends or energy, they were more writing about being a loser, but a loser who was still loved and knew who their people were and wanted to rebel against what they considered wrong. That's how I see this, but correct me if I'm wrong since I wasn't exactly around for punk beforehand. Also despite how NXP seems to regret it, his music seemed really influenced by incel communities back then. Like do you really think old punk would have celebrated Elliot Rodger, who in the end was a creep who couldn't get any bitches and went on a murder spree. They wouldn't, but certain online communities sympathized with elliot's plight, and started to revere him instead. Like I don't see how there can be 0 connection between that and the School Shooter project I think, punk can still exist without the incelcore theme, and actually "go against the grain", which is why incelcore is a necessary distinction as a subgenre. Most people who would be into more normal punk would definitely be weirded out about celebrating the people that SS did songs about.
@@ravenoushydra7948 I think certain sub-groups of punk certainly would have. Some of the most popular punk songs of the 2000s are specifically about being losers, outcasts, and freaks. Now I wasn’t around back in the 80s either I just love a lot of older punk and ska. Violent Femmes are awesome lol. But for example the way the leads in Jesus of Suburbia are presented isn’t very favorably. They would have been considered losers back then, and Jimmy and his ex-girlfriend in the music video aren’t really good people. He hits her, she cheats on him, they both are day drinking dropouts. In spite of that they are presented in a sympathetic light. Now I don’t dispute it appeals to incels specifically but I think a lot of punk that we don’t consider “incelcore” does as well. I feel some people are using it as a way to invalidate the artistic validity of his music. Like for example Add It Up by violent femmes has light incel themes. “Why can’t I get just one fuck? I guess it’s got something to do with luck. But I waited my while life for just one… Day after day I get angry and I will say.” I think shooter core would probably be more accurate though I don’t think NXP would like that either. But I don’t think it’s a stretch, when SS Punk was around at one point, to say that it falls into the broader punk culture pretty well. I just think it causes a lot of people to dismiss him outright when otherwise they might just go “oh I like this guy NXP the lyrics are suspicious but the music is so good I don’t care. Like how I am with Crush Em by G.B.H or Los Angeles by X Also to the last point it’s true to a certain extent but Nowadays most of what normal punk is, is socially accepted. Most people won’t assume you are a drunken loser because you have piercings and tattoos anymore. Except maybe 70+ year olds. NXP is making music he knows most of society will look down on him for but he makes it anyway because it’s a statement of who he is. Exactly like the punks of old who got treated as mentally ill losers because they didn’t fit into societal molds at the time.

I find this pretty ironic considering he's said multiple times in the past that he despises the term punk, and he doesn't feel that he shares any expression with that genre. Very odd that he wishes to bring that label on now. Hard to tell with NXP, he has some pretty dry and deadpan humor.
