Fright Night 85 and Fright Night 2 88 are indeed better then both remakes.
Better by far. Have you seen the original Salem's Lot from 1979? I believe it was originally released as a three part television min-series that was later also aired as a single film. The movie was remade with Rutger Hauer playing the big baddie, and even though I usually really like Rutger Hauer, the original '79 Salem's Lot was far superior to the remake. I think Salem's Lot actually got two remakes, if I recall correctly. And both paled in comparison to the original. Salem's Lot was the first vampire movie I had ever seen that I actually found to be scary. The part where the vampire children were floating outside the window at night genuinely gave me the creeps when I was young. lol
Totally agree. The 2011 remake wasn't all that bad but that damn 2013 sequel was just pure trash.
Although I think they missed the mark on any shape shifting into animals or mist etc, I still think the remake was great, even if it felt small. The remake sequel made no sense at all. It just remade the original and did a gender swap. What the hell were they thinking?
The original Fright Night 1 and 2 have a special place with me, because the 80s was the best time of my life. Man, I was so immature and wild, but I'm glad I got over that time.

The new version with Colin Farrell was good. Colin portrayed the vampire his own way and kind of owned it. But as you said the originals were better. They wasted Jaime Murray in the sequel. And i think it was a cashgrab.

Julie Carmen’s Regine makes a strong impression, exuding an air of authority and power from her first appearance-at her “happening” she effortlessly subordinates Charlie, and casually uses a partygoer as a table to sign an autograph.
Always loved the soundtrack/score from FN 2 ('88). Definitely inspired my appreciation for synthwave music today.
I grew up on the 80s with the originals so my pick is the original fright night 2 even tho the new version vampire is very beautiful I still pick Julie Carmen 👍
I like FrightNight and FrightNight part2 1988. I wish Tom Holland would do a FrightNight part3 or even a FrightNight series. It's worked so far for CHUCKY and it's not Horror but it's also worked for the Karate Kid now Cobra Kai.

Fright night 2 is an underrated classic! I actually really enjoyed the second fright night sequel remake as it’s own entity. I think it works better being it own thing and not a copy of either the original or remake.
While I love them both, Carmen is my favorite.

Regine from Fright Night 2 was perfectly cast and made perfect sense.
Gerri with a G and an i instead of a J and a y should have just had a different night (as it clearly was Elizabeth Bathory from the beginning) and it should have been called something else other than Fright Night 2 since we already have a much superior Fright Night 2.

Fright Night Part 2 (1988) wasn't a straight to video film as it had a theatrical release but unfortunately didn't last long on the big screen due to the situation with the Menendez Bros.

Jaime Murray is the daughter of British actor Billy Murray who is famous for playing an corrupted detective sergeant in the cop drama the bill and Jaime mainly known for shows like the hustle and warehouse 13 and almost considered for Wonder Woman years before Gal Gaddot .

The bit that threw me about New Blood was the fact that she's everywhere at every moment, rather than Regine's more stalker-y methods (Getting into his dreams, messing up his head) feels much more sinister and conniving than "I'm here, I'm here as well, I'm here too" While I like Regine as a character, I feel that Julie Carmen tried too hard to be sultry and alluring but came off as a bit stiff and bland, that's just my opinion but to be fair, Julie did have an uphill battle, she's taking after Chris Sarandon's Jerry, who was a charisma machine.

I love the original Fright Night and the original Salem's Lot. The vampires are actually, "scary", in these films. The new films are more action flicks than vampire horror.
I like how he says decades later for the movie From Dusk Till Dawn, when it was only 8 years later

Original sequel was way better. It's also stupid how the new sequel isn't a sequel at all, but just a combination of the two films. Also, I like Jerry's Sister's gang in the sequel. Wish the DVD wasn't hard to get.

There's a big difference on both, which is the original part 2 is the correct order from school days to college days, to original Fright night part 1 also Jerri, herself just perfect vampire and her friends also, plus side am just happy werewolf guy didn't wear Michael Jackson Red college jacket. 2013 version Fright night in Romania had different storylines altogether, which had European university college and with more original vampire origin story as well. Bigger difference this version of Fright night but shouldn't have a number to it different movie altogether. Last thing, the countess vampire queen, herself 50/50% still I had a crush on her.

Oddly enough while I enjoyed the original 1985 Fright Night, the 1988 Fright Night 2 never really did it for me. On the other hand the 2011 Fright Night remake was just so so, while the 2013 remake of Fright Night 2 was not that bad. It could of been better but that is the way these things go someimes.

I would need to rewatch the first fright night to compare it to the remake. I mean the big thing with me and remakes is if you try to film similar stuff to original, sometimes new technology makes it translated poor. I liked remake for what it was but right now I'm not passing judgement if I thought was best. I never saw the old sequel, I saw the 2013 one. Honestly the plot of the old one sounds better. I got nothing against dracula or vampire Elizabeth bathory movies I just they get made so much. But again for what was I thought was ok. I think the 2 old movies should go together and the 2 remakes should
The original Fright Night is a masterpiece, but I was surprised how good it's sequel was! Very fun movie. Didn't like the remakes, they took away too many of the vampires' powers.

The new Salems lot movie coming out next year looks pretty sweet but the original as with Fright Night should never have remakes they are awesome just the way they are...
Original Fright night 1 Jerry next door neighbour vampire to continue with Fright night 2 werewolf, bugman and vampires in best of the 80s style. Then many years after in 2013 solo version of Fright night 2 European university in Romania with lady vampire queen and with all different cast altogether. Then years after Collin farrell version of Fright night came about.
It's kind of hard for me to pick I like them both they were both cute and dangerous in their own way

Long story short:
The original Fright Night is leagues better than all the rest.
obviously the revenge plot is much more fun! Not every Villain Can be Joker spreading chaos because he can. What I'm getting at is revenge plot is better then no plot.
Also I have to say, maybe it's just my 90's raised brain, but I think that we can all agree some times showing less is more, these days I think such a comment would get me called boomer, but I do think that it's better to elude to the lude then show the lude. As for how to show less while showing all, lighting, shadows conceal more then the scary thing ( well technically in this case they would be the scare yet hot things), like the inability of the director to make a decent intimate scene.
Still FN2 2011 not bad when it comes to vampire movies, it's better then Twili, so that's a plus, but I much prefer the 88' version.
The original always be the best even though the new remake isn't all that bad but it could never replace the original

Fright Night 1 and 2 are both really awesome, and the 2011's Fright Night was also awesome but the 2013's Fright Night 2 was pretty bad from what I can remember.
2 originals are so much better because they are so sexy and also funny in places Modern vampire movies are basically action movies - boring.

Fright Night(1985) & Fright Night 2(1988) are definitely the far superior films of this franchise. Fright Night( 2011) is a terrific remake. As for its 2013 sequel, it was kinda pointless installment seeing all it did was retell the first film story and moved it to Europe and made Gerry a female. Just wasn't very much of a sequel as more a 3rd retelling of first Fright Night.

the original was just better in every way. if it aint broke dont fix it. even the original sequel female vampire fatal was hotter then the remakes. they should remake buffy but have joss remake and have the original cast give input or at least make another slayer story with one of the awaken slayers

Julie Carmen's Regina was alluring, more mysterious, and more seductive than Jaime Murray's Gerry. She came off more like a vampire than Gerry. (No offense to Jaime.)
Fright night is my favorite. The second one with the origin Charlie is pretty good but the third one was just barley watchable
The two characters are very different and they are both enjoyable in their own way. But personally I prefer the one from 2013 movie. I don't know, she looks just cooler to me.
Here it is. Gerri was way hotter than Regina and that lesbian scene with the prostitute further added to her seductive sexiness. However, Regina had more of a motivation and motive to doing what she was doing and therefore made scene why she taunted Charlie.

So 2013 movie not as much a sequel to Anton Yelchin movie - more like another remake. Also sequel to original at least reverse some gender roles (now Charlie is the one who needs saving and his girlfriends is the savior) and remake... of remake just repeat some boring unisipired and even harmful trope about "treatoreous bisexual lady vampires", alghouh Jaime Murray is quite good in her role.

Fright night 2 should have been about werewolves instead of vampires which would have made different enough most wouldn't have been thought too much like the original. Which is the biggest problem with this sequel.
