" - Thats usually with cheap RTR engines; they often come with horrendous carburators that make them a nightmare. Especially the Traxxas 3.3 is known for not holding a tune. A good engine you usually only have to set up once and then only adjust the high end or low end needle by 1/16 - 1/8 turns depending on the weather and it will run like that the entire day.
Looks awesome, but you are correct, not shifting. I love nitro. People shouldn't be intimidated. Get a cheap temp gun and a heat gun to warm the engine before starting. The adjustments are minimal once you get it tuned for your area.
Motor is likely fine. If it idles well, that's a sign that it's in pretty decent shape. Just needs some tuning (and quality fuel/percentage of nitro makes a pretty big diff, too)

that idle is way too high and by listening to the engine while you brake(stop) it seems to be the gas/brake servo end point not fully closing the carb when idling. because when you brake, the engine goes into a lower idle. @ 3:47 mark i can also hear that you've leaned the high speed needle to the leanest it can handle without losing power. so if you don't get 2nd gear maybe check if it even works?

The motor sounds fine. I'll bet 2nd gear shift pawl is stuck or the shift point just needs to be adjusted.

Sounds like it needs a good tuning.. the sputtering is too much fuel.. if it was lean it was be much more high pitch sound.

Have 3 gp10 they are lovely scale
Loosen the two screws on the second gear shoe and it should shift earlier
LOOSE the m3 screws, dont touch the little grub screws

Most hobby shops really. Horizon hobby is a good place to start. They run on methanol+nitromethane fuel, not gasoline.
