I’m doing a session each day and we’ve progressed to putting a paw on the board when I say scratch and then I treat. My Kelpie also favours the left paw but I’m working on the right one. The problem is that she doesn’t actually scratch more than once. Mostly she just places her paw on the board. Any suggestions?

This video was filmed later than the video you watched. You will see me holding a spoon with a treat under the spoon. Nicky can see the treat under the spoon and she is more motivated to continue scratching the board. Nicky needs to see know the treat is coming if she keeps scratching.
Hope this helps to keep your Kelpie to keep scratching. Start slow; 1 scratch say “Yes” and then over spoon and give your dog the treat. Here is the video.
Check a few shorts on my channel for more clips of Nicky scratching the board and me turning over the spoon and eating the treat

I have Kelpie whose nails are ridiculously long. But she totally refuses to let me clip or drammel them. I have bought a scratch board with three sliding door for treats but will just try your method . She is just starting to understand the need to scratch for her reward.

I hope you are successful and your dog likes to file her nails on the scratch board. Nicky just used her scratch board tonight It is great to see the relief when she shortens her nails on the scratch board both from her and me. I have never had a dog who panics as much as Nicky to do her nails. she has dew claws , so I need to use grinder on those 2 nails. Lots of chicken as I am using grinder. it takes just a few seconds, but I can see the panic in her eyes. i hope the video helps your dog. Joyce and Nicky
