I think it should be said that despite her being a death goddess and gruesome in appearance, at least in Gaimans adaptation of the mythology, she was always kind and matronly to the dead. Though cold in manner, she wasnt without care. Because in the grand order of things, Odin tasked her with the souls of the elderly, sick, young and those without battle. It would be Hela's task to also watch over Baldur the beautiful, who became a prince to the dead when he was denied valhalla. All these villains have a natural course to play in the machinations of the Norns and the inevitability of Ragnarok
@@ivantheterrible2594 I have it on my Kindle. I really like that Mr. Gaiman had such a nice blend of sarcastic humor with grim seriousness in his retelling of Norse mythology.
I like that you made Angrboda blue. A lot of people forget that she's a ice giant. While we don't know what she exactly looks like from the eddas but with ice giants being blue, she 9/10 was blue But also the souls of the regular people just go to Hel. It's not some punishing afterlife for being normal. It's a dark place sure. But it's basically what you would have done in life. Seeing your dead ancestors, family, and friends. Eating food. Etc. One thing to note, Ragnarok comes from the prose eddas. Which has a lot of issues. So the ancient norse (not viking, viking is something you did) probably didn't actually believe in it
Ice Giant doesn't mean blue skin, it also doesn't mean that they have ice powers, they are just giants born in icy areas, did you get that from the MCU?? What source does it say that Angrboda or ice giants are blue????
There was no dishonor in going to Hel. In fact, most people went to Hel. Only those who actively died in battle, referred to as the Einherjar, went to Valhǫll.
I've asked this before. We need a vid on Nafi to learn about him. Narfi, or Nari, was a another of Loki's children who was torn apart and whose innards were used to bind Loki to a rock in a cave, as a snake dips venom into his eyes. We all know about Loki's animal kids and his daughter Hel, but not him.
is basically the ancestor of Batman's "double face", they have the same face (the family look is noticeable) 0:29 it would have been nice, to always see them together as a happy "family of monsters".
Can't wait to see Atreus and Angrboda's daughter in God of War. I wonder how will she look like, and what will be her name considering "Hel" is a title
I wonder if the punishment she administers to the sinners and criminals was in tribute to the punishment Loki has to endure for causing the death of Baldur and setting into motion the events of Ragnarok?
Oh definitely, there has to be a connection there. Personally my interpretation is that after Narfi died, Hel let him torture the evil like their father is tortured.
Can you do in next video about Forseti ,Vidarr ,Skadi ,Baldur ,Nanna ,Bragi ,Njord ,Freyr ,Garm or Nidhogg ? It will be Magnificent & Amazing 👑🤩🤗😃😋👑🤩🤗😃😋
If Hel is Hades’ Norse Equivalent does that mean that she’s a neutral god like him? I’m not saying all gods of the underworld & death are always neutral I’m just curious what her alignment is.
Yes mythology of Rome, Greece, Norse, Asian, Egyptian it's all related and stories are all very alike I learned in an audio book about Hermes. The Greek messenger of God's
at the scene starting 2:06 the trickster god Loki suffered this exact same punishment as a result of him killing the beloved Asgardian god Baldur with a simple mistletoe dart
Here's a funny video idea how about you make mythology what if basically the stores in mythology if but what if they took a different turn Like for example the story of Hephaestus trying to sleep with Athena but in that what if he would have gotten her pregnant

I agree. I like that depiction of Hel in Gaiman's book.
As a Norse Pagan, I take on this view of Hel.
I've got that book on audio, I love Neil's narration of Norse Mythology. It's on par with Mythos and Heroes by Stephen Fry.

At this point hel is just becoming evil in this video
In Valkyrie Connect, she usually goes on adventures with Skuld

Loki's kids(both from Sigyn and Angrboda) didn't deserve their fates.
In Norse mythology the parents of Hela (Hel) are Loki and a giantess named Angrbooa.
There was no dishonor in going to Hel. In fact, most people went to Hel. Only those who actively died in battle, referred to as the Einherjar, went to Valhǫll.

And as I've said before: No!!
Honestly agree but I don't think they will since there's so little info.
0:27:Angrboda with her children, that is so cute. Where's Loki when his kids needed him?
He’s taking the role of the father that went away to get milk.
@@enderethan144 Pretty sure both Loki and Angrboda hid the kids away in Jotunheim so that nothing would happen to them
I wanna see the Slavic gods like, Perun, Dažbog and Veles
💛 all your videos mate👍
The great and amazing goddess of the underworld perfect
is basically the ancestor of Batman's "double face", they have the same face (the family look is noticeable)

I absolutely love this, & I greatly appreciate the sheer diligence of your channel to keep delivering us all such high quality content.❤

Hela is the Norse Goddess Of Death💀.
wow that's beautiful this history Valhalla Ragnarok i love that brother father.

This is Hela interesting.
I'll see myself out.

Non c’è da dimenticarsi che Hel aveva considerato Odino, come nonno 👴🏻 e per ringraziarlo gli regalò due corvi 🐦⬛.
I don’t understand how dying of old age is dishonourable
Tragic irony that in their efforts to prevent Ragnarok, they ended up sowing & nurturing the seeds to make the world changing event inevitable.

They got Loki looking like Shiva from the Hindi pantheon lol.
Fun fact
Even though it's a german legend, they say that krampus is hel's son
That came from a fantasy book.
1:48 netflix adaptation
I thought you said Odin gave her control of Helheim in Niflheim, not that she was exiled in Niflheim in another video.
So hela from the Otherside, i must have called a thousand times
God Bless Everyone Have Faith In Christ Amen ✝️❤️🙏
Hella interesting
What are the three best mythology books to start with?
I wonder if she is sad and lonely there or happy and calm
What’s your source on the punishment for criminals? Not necessarily doubting, I’ve just never heard that before.
This video is Hela cool.
In the movie she was odin first born so technically Loki’s adoptive sister 👧
She wasn't in God Of War: Ragnarok!
at the scene starting 2:06 the trickster god Loki suffered this exact same punishment as a result of him killing the beloved Asgardian god Baldur with a simple mistletoe dart
I always heard of Jormongandr being male...
A three-legged horse!?!?
How does that work???
I DONT BLAME IN THOR MOVIES GUYS SORRY MATE
But comic book readers knows Loki and Hela true relation.
I agree that
Wat?! 🧐
Oh yes Loki's daughter I remember in Marvel Comics when Thor got her pregnant
Or when she dated Thanos😅
Not Hela, just Hel. Enjoy your videos, though.
Her you say the snake is a female?
How she dies???
why does this make me wanna listen to Metallica....
