Here’s some kabuki history for those interested: Kabuki is thought to have originated in the early Edo period, when the art's founder, Izumo no Okuni, formed a female dance troupe that performed dances and light sketches in Kyoto. The art form later developed into its present all-male theatrical form after women were banned from performing in kabuki theatre in 1629. Kabuki developed throughout the late 17th century and reached its zenith in the mid-18th century. In 2005, kabuki theatre was proclaimed by UNESCO as an intangible heritage possessing outstanding universal value. In 2008, it was inscribed in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Oh, are you so lucky to have had the opportunity to have that experience! My twin brother and I would absolutely love to be able to see this show. FF X holds a special place in our hearts, it's our favorite ff game. Even though I myself have never played the game, the two of us have spent many times together with him playing and me watching him. It's always a lot fun for us. I would be crying if I could see this lol. Auron, Yuna and Kimahri are my favorite characters.
I was just there last night! Such a great show! Just be prepared for the long sitting. The short 20 min break are a godsend. Take the time to walk around and stretch. People were definitely limping a bit after the show.
That is awesome you were allowed to film some footage of the show. Gameplay-wise, I liked Rikku, because she could make some destructive Molotov cocktails with her compounding skill. Character-wise, I liked Lulu. It was adorable the actress was holding the Moogle plushie, which was her weapon in the game.
Thank you for sharing with us! Your Yuna earring is so cool! FFX is such a special game to me. I did my first part-time job as a high school kid, worked my ass off to save up and bought a PS2 just to play FFX. FFX is that game that I forced my poor high school friends to watch FFX's FMVs with me, learnt Japanese language and moved to Japan eventually. Such fond memories. My favourite character is Yuna but Lulu is my MVP character when playing through the storyline. I find it funny that Seymour has to fight so many characters. So busy of him! XD Man, I totally know what you meant by the ending. This is why FFX is my favourite Final Fantasy.
I dunno if you saw but they released a livestream and you can purchase a ticket to stream it and rewatch it for 10 days. They also subtitled it in English for international audiences. I think a ticket for the full show (both acts) is about $36 USD but you might want to double check that.
I adore both kabuki and the Final Fantasy franchise and this is a match made in heaven. Although Final Fantasy VII is my favorite because of Sephiroth (I mean with such an epic theme like One-Winged Angel, how can you NOT root for him?), this show is a love letter to Final Fantasy X. It's even better that the seats rotate as the story progresses, similar to Carousel of Progress at Disney World! And the merch and snacks are out of this world. That program cover is beautiful! And the drinks are mesmerizing! Who knew a donut...could look so STUNNING! It's nice that there are multiple breaks in between, not just because sitting for that long can be a bit uncomfortable and so it's nice to get some fresh air, but doing these breaks to give you multiple opportunities to buy exclusive merch, snacks, and bentos is smart to make profit.
Thank you so so much for sharing this video! FFX is my favorite game in the world and though I couldn't make the show, I wanted the merch! However its hard to find online and theres little to no information about it. I was so happy to find your video so I could get close up footage of it. I'm so happy you got to see the show in person!
Thank you SO much for allowing us to experience this!! I wish I could experience the whole thing, it seemed so amazing. From the costumes to the make up to the back drops, they did such an amazing job bringing the game to life. This brought tears to my eyes, I loved it!!!
Wow! I’ve got some deep love for FFX, so this is just such a monumentally special thing to experience, even as indirectly as here. Thank you so much for bringing us into it and sharing it with us! Man…hearing those kabuki renditions of the soundtrack, and seeing the choreographed evolutions of those turn-based battles, is just next-level awesome. So, so cool 😍
I'm sure it was worth it and very beautiful. I can't really see myself putting aside an entire day for an 8 hour show. 😅 were there any Chocobos or Moogles? maybe in the form of giant puppets?
OMG Chris, I'm screaming internally. I really like the Takarazura theater culture, I know their style from a very young age, but I never saw what a Kabuki show was like. It's so cool and even when it's intertwined with POP Culture, it still shows a lot of what kabuki theater is in its essence. So cool. Thank you very much!
God i LOVE FFX, It was my 1st FF and my Favourite and it was the game that made me become a FF series fan, I cant forget the 1st time i unlocked Anima and Yojimbo and my god the SOUNDTRACK was so damn good, Thanks for taking me down Memory Lane.
Wow, this is so cool and something that I will probably never see stateside. The part with Yuna sending and the music got me right in childhood feels. I can’t believe I first played FFX first the first time over 20 years ago 🥲 Great video as always, thanks for taking us along with you!
I almost never comment, but when you asked who our favourite character was, I HAD to answer!!😅 Forever and always, Lulu! Thanks for bringing this event to us!
I was thinking this was going to be 4 hours, but 8 hours really is a "Traditional Kabuki"! I really wanted someone to eventually make the Wano arc in One Piece into a Kabuki Stage Show. I think with some animatronics, some classic special effects and puppetry, along with lighting and such could make an incredible, Lion King, level attraction, that could go on world tours and what not... but I think even if it went 8hours, the story might be too complicated, because while a lot is self-contained in the Wano arc, major set up and plot points are outside of it. I think if it was a 3 part production, it probably could work... but that's a hell of an investment... I just think it'd be amazing. Part 1: would need to be a play that could cover Return to Sabaody, Fishman Island, Punk Hazard, and Dressrosa, and probably string some things together to make Sabaody and Fishman Island more connected to Dressrosa and Doflamingo. (It would also need some big abriding, unless this in itself was split in two parts. I think at a minimum you maybe could cut Fishman Island, even though things come up from there later to Dressrosa, and let the send off from Sabaody be the introduction that leads to Punk Hazard, but then have Fishman Island be portrayed through flashback segments in the Whole-cake Island part) Part 2: would be a broadway-style musical that would cover Zou and Whole-cake Island (As stated, maybe with some parts from Fishman Island sprinkled in to give context when needed. I think the problem with doing too much Fishman Island would be the effects would get expensive fast for a more unrelated story, but the parts that are needed... maybe it is best to show flashback in that way) Part 3: would be the classical Kabuki translation of the Wano Arc. I feel like it'd be the first real serious stage show with serious sequels in different mediums, but it would be so much fun. I know you don't read One Piece, but really, I think if Shueisha was Disney they'd be on it, because they could do some Lion King levels of all ages fun. (That or it could turn out a disaster like Spiderman turn out the Lights... but really, I doubt that. The narrative is relatively traditional. Effects would be bombastic, costumes and puppetry would be off the charts, but not too new/bleeding tech, nor require too crazy stunts. People would laugh, they would cry, they might shout (probably not in Japan, lol), and as long as there is a great musical producer they will be bopping as well.)
Saw this on Tuesday the 11th(second to last day) show was super amazing....diehard fans don't need to speak japanese to know exactly what's going on in the story...all the exclusive swag was nice but not as nice as acrylic stand you got for free for being a SS ticket holder
Fun fact about Kabuki, it was considered "low brow" in comparison to Noh theatre. Which is funny as now Kabuki is more well known than Noh. While I love both theatre styles Noh holds a special place in my heart as it was the first Japanese theatre style I saw in person!
I wish I could go, but I just can't justify spending that much money on one show right now ;____; well here's to hoping they do kingdom hearts one day xD
I really appreciate that you are showing everyone on your channel how awesome theatre here in Japan is. Would love to see more of it!! Takarazuka and 2.5jigen stages are definitely worth watching. P.S. Goods and food are awesome as well🤣
That's insane the actors performed for that long even with breaks! Legendary! Thank you for giving us the inside scoop to this amazing show!

I love FFX so much and I'm so bummed I'm missing out on this. Thank you for showing us a bit of it

@@AxisOAnarchy omg thank you! I'll look into it!!
Amazing! What an achievement this is happening 20 years after it’s release 🎉
Ok this is the best surprise ever…this game is so special, and I can’t believe how artfully it translates to the stage. Thank you for posting ❤

I hope someone is able to scan the program! I'd love to read what it has to say about the production and characters ...
I happened to be in Tokyo when they were showing this, so I escaped one day to watch the full show. It was incredible!! 😭
Despite knowing nothing about what’s going on story wise in the show it’s still beautiful to watch!
The lagoon drink looked heavenly!❤
The costumes look fantastic! Thank you for sharing this. 😀💖🙌
Thank you for watching! The costumes are soooo good.
Just hearing the Zanarkand song at the beginning 😭😭
Lovely. Thanks. Music so soothing.
Thank you for watching!
I know that some kabuki places give you like a tablet where you can see a translation into English. Did this have one?
The music got me too, hooray for nostalgia!!

Thought they were talking about an anime series don't forget LEGEND OF DRAGOON
Tidas outfit ... incredible! I didn't appreciate his outfit in the games but this Kabuki one is great. Thanks for sharing a bit of your experience.
My favorite character from Final Fantasy is probably Aerith however if we're talking about 10, Auron.
Is the show really 8 hours? 😮

FFX/X2 are my fave games of all time. Wish I had enough money to go see this live. Also where did you get Yuna's Earring???
Oh my goodness! My favourite game ever! I walked down the isle at my wedding to To Zanarkand!
OMG I LOVE THAT!!!
@TDR Explorer it was great, because those who knew...knew and those who didn't just thought it was pretty music :)
If there's an official place of garten of Banban and everything it could be cool if you go
They even have Braska
That looks beautiful ❤and I don’t even know the game 😂
It's gorgeous!
Fave has to be maester seymour!
Thanks for sharing this. I've been a FFX fan for so long, with this kind of shows could go overseas

@@Pezint ok
Do you play XIV, btw?
I have since 2010!
@@tdrexplorer just generally curious, what race do you play as? 😲
Would’ve loved to see this in person! Just gotta make my way to Japan someday! Btw…fave character is Auron!

Greetings from korea 🇰🇷 😊❤
Thank you for watching!
I don’t know the game in any way but I did enjoy the music and dance
The music is excellent and the performances too! I love it. Thank you for watching, Paula!
I really appreciate that you are showing everyone on your channel how awesome theatre here in Japan is.
Would love to see more of it!! Takarazuka and 2.5jigen stages are definitely worth watching.
P.S. Goods and food are awesome as well🤣
Do you actually play XI or is it just "a Final Fantasy so close enough" for that shirt? The Destiny Destroyers are adorable on it!
8 hours its only 20 mins long
That is one heck of a time commitment. The stage work looks utterly stunning though
Moogles and Sephiroth (I know he's not in it but i like him 😅) . They are my favourites .😊 what a sweet idea for a show ❤
I loved that they were able to do this!
Kabuki? I think I prefer No theater
Mmm, I do not like how you pronounce Tidus's name...
