I love Slick Rick! He’s such a kind, giving person. He’s *AAAAALWAYS* by Fine Fare Supermarket by Baychester Avenue (where I lived for some years) and 233rd Street in The Bronx, giving out $100 bills. I’ve never been lucky enough to get any money from him, but he and my cousin are really cool and I chit chatted with him a few times or walked by his house and saw him or his mom. He’s really down to earth. Really lovely, cool, mellow guy. I’ve loved him since I was a child living in Jamaica and used to listen to The Ruler’s Back and The Art Of Story Telling, back when I hadn’t a clue that we’d become neighbours! Truly a Legend. ♥️🙏🏾
They used to say Tooting but when you check it Tooting and Mitcham are next door to one another. In fact its one whole straight road from Brixton through Tooting, Colliers Wood straight into Mitcham. All my S.London dons stand up
@@diamondwest35 kinda straight road, you got to bust a right turn at Southcroft Rd to go into Tooting from Brixton via Mitcham Ln, but I know what you're saying
@@N1NJAKIDD You can go that way but if you cut across to Oval Station its one straight road (it runs parallel with the route you're talking). I take this route on the regs 😀

This is the first time I've heard him speak (not rap) How cool is his voice. I didnt know back in the day when his song came out that he was from the UK. The hood didnt travel to Europe like that. Maybe Jamaica.
I been a slick rick fan from the beginning before his solo Lp when he was with dougie fresh and just found out he's blind in his right eye... Since a toddler.. Always thought the patch was a hip hop fashion statement.. Wow..
Want to know a mind fuq...If you listen closely he always MCs in a British accent when in the early 80s, and 90s and early 00s. A lot of UK Rappers did so in an American accent.
His accent is purely American but the way he pronounces certain words you can definitely tell there's some British in there. When at 13:43 he said "2019 hiphop" his British accent when he says 19 is pretty prominent. I'd still consider the guy American but it's great knowing he originally came from Britain.
Know what'd I mein - 😂😂 super slick - to leave and do a hybrid UK/USA when no one had done it - it takes balls to be fresh and new and try new things against the status quo - d'ya know what di mean ?
His mixed London/NewYork accent is still mad to me lol.
he left the uk when he was 11, so it'll still stick
Maaad
Sounds like Mike Tyson lol
He kind of forced the British ting nowadays, you can look at his interviews from the 90s and his accents totally American
It’s fascinating - not pretentious at all though. He’s an original.
Who else is glad that the pionner of Hip Hop has FINALLY been interviewed by DJ Ace?
This guys voice is iconic. Proud to be British even more because of Slick!
Hybrid British/New York accent is dope 🤣

A true legend! Slick Rick. He does not get all the props he deserves.
How did people not know he was British? He sounds almost straight up British on Children's Story. Later on he started to pick up the NY accent.
British accent definitely
It’s like he’s got a mixture of the British accent and the American accent.
I'm glad he corrected the fake info that's been floating around for decades saying he was brought up in Brixton when in fact he was from Mitcham
