The big problem I have with Remembrance Sunday is that it implies all the worst things happened in the past. War is happening NOW and we need to sort things NOW. Surely that's a better way to remember those who lost their lives in wars of the past?

aragornthebrave it implies nothing of the sort. It is for us all to remember the sacrifice of the few for the many. What big problem is there to be had with that.

Taliesin Freund that’s obvious, they also sacrificed themselves, because they signed up, they were not conscripted.

Taliesin Freund In August 1914 the British Government called for an extra 100,000 volunteer soldiers to come forward. They got 750,000 men by the end of September, and by January 1915 more than 1 million had joined the armed forces voluntarily.

@@lwil1226 The big problem is that most people are crying about something that happened 100 or 70 years ago, thinking everything's OK now, when it isn't. It's much easier to do that compared to taking action to create peace for today.

    • @lwil1226

aragornthebrave really, the world is a far more peaceful, prosperous and freer place than it as ever been. Remembrance Day recognises all the fallen from 100 years ago back to the present, and if you forget the past you’re more likely to repeat its mistakes. A lesson the ideologically possessed leftists, could do with learning as they try to smash everything in their path in their search for their utopia. We’ve already been there and we know what happens. If you’re not quite sure, read the gulag archipelago, rereleased as a timely reminder those ideological fools of the left of histories worded horror. An entirely socialist construction, people like yourself and the fools at Novara with their faux empathy. Good day sir.

Maybe if Michael was sat in the middle and the guests either side it would be easier to keep them facing the mic

Love the show. But sound levels all over the place. Wish this could be normalised after going live. Gary, your job must be so hard!

ultrasonic sound social politics is poison and is dangerous. There is nothing new about you’re ideas, it’s all been done before and you only have to count the corpses to know how it worked out. They have just rereleased a book that deals with the consequences of you’re floored ideology called The Gulag Archipelago. Get yourself a copy it will be quite an education for you.

    • @lwil1226
      @lwil1226 5 років тому +1

ultrasonic sound I do oppose any kind of Marxist doctrine because I am aware of history. In fact they have just rereleased The Gulag Archipelago which as part of you’re education you might like to read, and you will see from that document where you’re foolish ideology leads. I am by the way working class and I don’t vote, because nobody is selling anything remotely of interest to me.

The Murdoch Press is trying to do the same thing in Australia. Virgin Australia was moving ahead with a "thank you for your service" on flights, but actually veteran groups have critiqued it and Virgin has had to backtrack and consult on it.

Interesting play on words and symbolism when you know that poppies produce opium, millions have fought and died in the opium wars and trade since 3400bc, Afghanistan is the biggest producer of opium, the Bitish and USA govt were once ( and probably still) the biggest dealers of opium worldwide, the French grew it and had an opium trade route, and opium makes HEROINE.
So we celebrates heroism with the poppy.
To my mind, this makes us all look even more foolish and deluded than we are already.
Why does no one ever raise this point?.
This story about poppies suddenly growing over the flattened trenches??? Told to us like some romantic story.
    I don't get it.

Listening to Joe speak, my ex who was a military brat is making more sense to me now, i was confused of his attitude when i was dating him.
At the time when he used to big up the military and speak out how useless civilians are, i just couldn't understand him because every job in the country is a service to it's people. Therefore, every job is worthy of respect but he did not see it this way.
He didn't pass the entrance test for military so the next important job he believed was becoming a police officer, which he ended up doing.
I still couldn't understand him at the time, his a bright man, went to university but was never interested in any graduate jobs, kept on saying im working class, no one will hire me for middle class jobs and i don't belong to a rich family who owns their own business where i can work like rich people's children.
Now listening to Joe everything is making sense to me.
His up brining, being brought up in a military base mentally kept him in his class and taught him civilian jobs were not worth.

War never ends, we just have more advanced weapons that in the past, and in 2012 i created something on here about wars. If anyone did want to view it then simply just type in the search bar above this title.......War is not heroic
