The real benefit to a 200m dive watch is if your boat sinks while you are on the dive, you can go down and get your watch later. I have enough crap hanging off me when I dive, don't need to know the time when my computer will tell me.
I did dive to - 40m with my 200m Diver à long time à go ..but i don’t plan to do thé sale with a GMT
No one ever dives with a mechanical watch anymore when the electronic ones are so much better. Divers are just for show now.

Wearing mine. Mikan Orange. This is the one. Absolutely pops. This is the first video that I think really captures it (no surprise here that FT can shoot a watch like a boss). In photos it looks flat but it's a really dynamic, fiery orange. Somehow the orange, grey, black and gold all go together. It's louche and distinctive. Big fan.
Great video! I appreciate your upgrade ideas. One day I may. However, I am enjoying the factory watch for now. I own the 003. This really is a great watch! I picked mine up from an AD for $400 all in. Hopefully, you all can pick yours up for even a better price. The watch wears just like the SKX. The bracelet and clasp are very comfortable. Very happy with my purchase. I am also looking forward to seeing what the micro-brand market comes up with. I bet Marc at Long Island Watch will put out an amazing option!

Nice - got my Mokan Orange for summer... Stoked. No Prospex logo! It looks way more classy than mid-low end Prospex without that AliExpress logo. The orange is crazy vibrant - not really caught on camera. One of the best orange dials I've seen at any price. It pops big time. My only criticism is the display caseback - give me a 1mm thinner watch anyday, but as you say - an easy swap. This is an insanely capable, wearable watch for the money and the 24hr hand always re-aligns when running. Gyp at the price of this, haters!!
This is a great release, and so tempting. If I don't end up getting a Black Bay GMT later this year (as in I choose a different watch), I may get one just to have a GMT. I also hope they get put in some Prospex models. Pepsi King Turtle GMT anybody? A Save the Ocean GMT? I would love to have a sapphire crystal (without modding), and I've even come to enjoy the utility of the cyclops on my King Turtle. The mod options are great. I have seen that the bezel is a tiny bit different, so the current bezels may not be able to go on there. I think with the 24 hour rehaut, a 60 minute dive bezel mod will be popular to allow timing (obviously not for dives, since this isn't a diver). I do like the Sharp Edge GMTs, but they're maybe a bit busy overall. These are just so clean. I hope Seiko uses the Sharp Edge GMT movement in some other GMT watches. That could be very interesting.

Fantastic looking watch for sure. Just compare to SKX it is not Diver's 200m. I was about to buy new GMT, but instead I bought also new model SNE593P1 For similar price, it has Sapphire glass, screw down crown, prospex series logo, and Diver's 200m WR.
I would gladly pay extra for a sapphire, for a better clasp and for lumed ceramic bezel.

I like it because it’s clearly a Seiko. I have a Squale 1545, and it’s a great watch, but I don’t like that it’s a GMT Master homage. I bet Marc at LIW will make a version with screw-down crown, sapphire & a nicer clasp once he gets ahold of the movement!

Wow, one of the best performing Seiko movements I’ve seen from a modern Seiko out of the box on the Timegrapher.
Amplitude will always drop when a watch is turns on its side. There’s more friction from each pivot. Picture spinning a ball point pen on its tip. Then picture trying to spin the pen on that same axis but with the side of the pen making contact with the paper. More contact area. More friction. Amplitude drops. Either way, a very healthy set of numbers. Much better than the three SKX’s I’ve owned. The two my mate has owned, and significantly better than his Samurai which was so far off the mark it was a joke.
I do like the Seiko SSK001 black model and my online research shows the lowest price is US$255 including free shipping and no sales tax. MSRP is US$475.00.

I wish Seiko made the crown a screw down model.
Improve the friction bezel as it turns too easily and make it uni-directional instead of the current bi-directional.
Change the bottom cover from see-thru model to a solid metal.
These needed improvements will not raise the price drastically. I think most owners will agree with my fair criticism.

I was disappointed this doesn't have a screwdown crown - not that I would even wear it in the bath tub let alone diving - but then it's not a diver's watch at all. It's more of an explorer's or traveller's watch so the lack of a screwdown crown and bi-directional rotating bezel is totally acceptable.
It does have a bi-directional rotating bezel!

If you are not a diver why aren’t you satisfied with 100m water resistance.
For the people that have never dived, do you know how demanding is to descend to 100 meters? Most recreational divers would be able to do it and even for professional divers it will be a challenge. I personally am not a big fan of diving because its claustrophobic feeling. So why do u need 5000 meters water resistance when going down to 10 meters is what most people would be able to do??? Yeah divers’ watches look rugged and bulky, good for guys but most people don’t dive, they don’t even snorkel, so why do u need more than 100m? It’s paying for nothing!
I much rather have features I would use like GMT, better bracelet, sapphire crystal etc etc. Wannabes trying to play the 007 or Aquaman when they can’t even swim in an Olympic pool for one hour nonstop.

I don't know...the top 5 list of what I don't like about this watch coincides with the top 5 list of what I like about the SKX. I don't mind the cyclops, however.
Sadly there are already 4 months waitinglist in the Netherlands for every colorway of SSK Seiko 5 GMT

Seiko is not very generous for Sapphire glass, AR coating, Signed crown, Solid end links, Milled Scissor Deployant Clasp and so on...

I bought and returned. The bracelet is very cheap feeling. Pictures and videos the watch looks cool, but even around the $400-$500 range in my opinion still overpriced.
I don’t know where you looked at but here in japan those watches are perfectly made, looks even better in person, japanese costumers are really picky and i have never been hearing anyone complaining about it
@@noelbonilla37 I am in the US. I purchased the watch because it looks beautiful online and in person. The issue is the cheap bracelet that has no weight to it and it makes the watch feel out of balance. I am thinking this is why the watch is maybe on the cheaper side is because Seiko saved $ on supplying cheap bands.
Anybody know if aftermarket skx007 parts, bezel, sapphire glass fit on this watch?
They might physically fit, but the bezel on this is a bi-directional without clicks. So there is likely a different design for the spring, either just using the bezel gasket for friction, or a bezel spring similar to a Vostok. There is likely no drilled out holes for a bezel click spring to fit and allow it to work, or perhaps even stay in place. That’s before even considering if it’s the same diameter.

Need a 40mm or 39mm version for people with small wrists.
It will be even more out of proportion with that thickness. Just look for a different watch/brand

@@seanp7871 it can be worn by people with small wrists because of the short lug to lug. But I this the short lug to lug combined with the thickness of this version make it disproportional. The original SKX was about a millimetres thinner which made it great to wear. 5kx and especially this one are too top heqvy

Seiko won't add a sapphire crystal, milled clasp or a ceramic bezel. Why? Simple. People are buying their watches in droves so why would they change anything?
It is true! These are selling sooo fast. But hardlex has a rating of 8 on the mohs hardness scale. Sapphire a 9. So hardlex is pretty decent. Not your typical mineral crystal at 5ish on the scale.

Are all GMT watches “pilot” watches? This does not strike me as a pilot’s watch at all. I mean, Omega makes a Planet Ocean that is certainly not a pilot’s watch…
No, but likely not for the reasons you think.
This Seiko GMT is far more useful to a pilot, in the fact that UTC is able to be accurately read at a glance (that 24 hr scale sub-dial) and in that you have a rotating bezel to set destination local time - a far better way than to have to constantly pull the crown out on what are (mostly) essentially dual-timers. Besides, pilots do need to know their local home time as well. A tourist, not so much.
You need to also mention the san martin 200 dollar gmt
But also mention the 2 types of gmts people complain about and say this isn't a true gmt, I believe this is a collar gmt
People need to shush about sapphire omg like when it comes to seiko at least the hardlex is the best ever its a tool watch after all and shatter resistance is also a way of measuring a watch, also people like me with small wrists like hardlex too cause its WAYY lighter

Seiko changed the way they do serial numbers on Seiko 5 Series. Purely a manufacturing reference now.

The Seiko 5 is a good looking watch. However, San Martin SN015 GMT has higher specs, and around $100 + dollars less in cost. It has a 4hz (ETA clone) movement, sapphire crystal, screw down crown, 200M water resistance, better overall finish of case and jubilee bracelet (with screws not pins) and milled clasp, bi-direction bezel with click, anti reflective coating, super bright lume on dial AND bezel... I feel like there is more, but you get the idea.
Do you know if this would fit in a dresskx case?
It should swap right in but I have not tested it. Only thing is the movement is a hair taller I believe. So if you put a slight dome sapphire it should seal the deal that it will fit. But you would need a 24hr chapter ring as this watches chapter ring will not fit the dresskx. they have different slopes and size.

My first seiko 5 sports GMT had a misaligned GMT hand. The GMT hand was out fifteen minutes against the hour and minute hand. The replacement one lost time.

At the second position of the crown, the hour/minutes hands can not be rotated without the rotation of GMT hand. It is a big mistake for GMT watch.

Almost none of the SKX mods fit this watch, they are very different.
so much hype on this watch #1 because Seiko gave a ton of them away to "influencers". #2 the GMT is the simplest complication after the DATE. It is NOTHING to make a GMT watch. You don't even have to change the movement. 2 small parts and another hand turn any movement into a GMT. #3 almost no one who owns a watch needs a GMT. I travel internationally several times a year and have no desire for a GMT because it is SHIT to look at the rest of the year trying to figure out what time it is. Sorry Seiko, but this is a gimmick, too many free watches sent to morons who will promote it, and generally a bad watch concept.
I have no interest in a caller GMT. It's only relevant for people who can't add or subtract.
Modifying a watch isnt for everyone. Such a joke at this price point to have hardlex. People who say they dont care have never had a sappphire crystal, because the difference between the two is so pronounced
