It's amazing that even a small zoo in europe can outclass several zoos in America.

Very nice video. I am from the Czech Republic and I have been to Jihlava Zoo several times. A lot of great people work there, they know how to get and breed rare species of animals, but unfortunately the zoo's main problem is money and also quite limited space for expansion. But still, it's a very nice zoo

I didn't know this Zoo before and therefore I am really happy for your Review Video 😊
And while this Zoo is not the biggest one and there are definitely Zoos, that can provide larger enclosures for the animals, but most of them look nicely designed and are well structured for the needs of the animals 😊
And as always I really like your Style of narrating your Videos and that you have always a critical view if there are enclosures, that are not fitting for modern standards of animal keeping anymore or things like only indoor enclosures.
All in all, great Video as always and I look forward to your next Videos 😊

Hey, I´m from the Czech republic and I love ZOOs and I also love your videos. I agree with your critics about the Jihlava ZOO but it´s still one of my favorites. I´ve visited every ZOO in the Czech republic and my other favorites are Zlín ZOO, Hluboká nad Vltavou ZOO and Ostrava ZOO. I live near Liberec and i think Liberec ZOO is not very good because it´s very old (the oldest ZOO in the Czech republic) and the enclosures are not very good but it has a lots of potential in the upcoming reconstructions.

Hi, I am from Poland and I am a big fan of zoological gardens.
I really like watching your UA-cam channel. You inspire me to visit the next zoological gardens, especially in Germany. I have been only in five until now - Cottbus, Hoyerswerda, Goerlitz, Dresden and Leipzig. Leipzig is great. Gondwanaland and Pongoland are amazing. The really interesting collection of animals. I have to get back there. Next year I want to go to Chemnitz..
I suppose that my list of visited zoological gardens is shorter than yours but I didn't have a possibilites to travel for many years. Until now I visited 35 "serious" zoological gardens. 12 in Poland, 12 in Czechia, 5 in Germany (as I wrote), 4 in Slovakia and 1 in Austria(Vienna) and Hungary(Budapest). In one of your last videos you have briefly wondered about Czechia zoological gardens. I can confirm that Prague is absolutely amazing in my opinion. Gharials, Tasman devils, wombats, shoebilled stork, brown hyaena etc. I need more than one day to see all the species. I have never been in Plzen but the other zoo which I recommend is Zlin in east Moravia. Amazing, modern zoo with many storsk, hornbills and vultures. You can also see there kiwi, sloth bears, jaguars, geladas and Malayan tapirs. Really good is also garden in Ostrava near Katowice with amazing exhibitions for many monkeys. In Dvur Kralove you can see African collections (many ungulates) and go to the safari. They breed protels(aardwolfs), as in Zlin.
What can I recommend in Poland? I think of three gardens. First of all, the zoo in Opole which is very modern and breeds gorillas and okapi. The second one is the Polish legend - zoo Wrocław (Breslau). This is the old garden with many modern exhibitions - for example with a huge pavilion for African animals. You can see in Wrocław many mammals and one of the biggest reptiles/amphibians/fishes collection in Europe. The third garden is a zoo in Łódź in central Poland. The garden was rebuilt in recent years and presents many rare animals - for example Malayan tapir, Malayan bear, giant otters, lesser kudu etc.
My "favourite" garden is Silesian Zoological Garden in Chorzów due the fact that I am living 2 kilometers near to it. Zoo had financial problems for many years and is not the best I have ever seen. But now it is on the correct path and refreshes many exhibitions. We have a new pavilion of rain forest + penguins, white rhinoceros, 10 species of antelopes (for example bongo and gemsbok) and many monkeys. The biggest success of last years was the birth of wolverines, cheetahs, red pandas and lions. I also invite you to visit the garden:)

I do appreciate that the brushtail possums have outdoor access in Jihlava. I saw brushtail possums in Hof, Wilhelma, and Budapest, all of which kept the animals indoors and visitors did were not interested in seeing the animals they cannot see, especially at Hof where the exhibit hall smelled.

Smaller zoos which also worth a visit are Veszprém, Miskolc, Szeged (the larggest one by area), Palics, Kecskemét (the smallest one), Tisza tavi ökocentrum (about the local fauna, especially fishes), Pécs, Győr, Debrecen, Jászberény, Gyöngyös and Tropicarium (a small one in a mall)

also another decent to good zoo in the netherlands is Eindhoven zoo(formerly dierenrijk)

I am from Czech Republic and in my opinion the Jihlava Zoo is pleasant to visit and has a really interesting collection of animals for such a small zoo. But I have to admit that some of the exhibits are really terrible (pygmy hippo, house of beasts and the new monkey exhibit (they have already moved in). For example, there is a large area next to the pygmy hippos where the llamas are now and I find it a shame that it is not used for the pygmy hippos or some of the beasts. The general problem with this zoo is the limited space they have to work with and where they can build new exhibits.

    • @experiencethezoo
      @experiencethezoo  7 днів тому +2

Some one else mentioned, that they are planing a new pygmy hippo house.

@@experiencethezoo It is only some kind of concept, real plans should be know this year. Owner zoo is Jihlava city and they decided to invest money in an unnecessarily large and second ice hockey stadium, so the zoo had financial problems for several years. Only now is the Vysočina region, where Jihlava is located, starting to help a little, and with its help, for example, an outdoor enclosure for a sand cat will be created. Before, Jihlava was led by people who only had the zoo for bragging rights and did not want to give the zoo funds for development. In addition, the zoo has now received money from a Russian bank that was frozen there due to the war in Ukraine.

What is a "desert cat"? and why do they have two of them? When I google it the only animal that comes up is sand cat.
The animals in the video look like African wildcats, but that would mean the zoo has three wildcat enclosures. It doesn't make any sense.

Oh, you skiped super rare blue duikers in African part😢. There are 2 pygmy hippo oudside exhibits, but new hippo house will be bulid in near future, how zoo say in one comment on they facebook. Same for tigers. And zoo also build outside exhibits for sand cats.
Giant otters are really deram of director. The samll calwed otters will go out from zoo, if giant otters really happedn.
And yes, it is nessecary to keep all these species (cats). The space is ok. Jihlava have more pallas cat then whole UK. And if this zoo like Jihlava stop breed them, they are disapeer from European zoo. Jihlava "hold" by this way many species. I think you want for animals more, then they really need (small cats). Yes there are in Jihlava "stupid" things like you say in bears (which should have 2 outside exhibit too), cat house is also not ok today, but persian leopards, snow leopards or small cats are deffinitly ok in my opinion.
