  • Lowering your alkalinity levels is an easy step by step process that I demonstrate in this quick video.
    Your alkalinity levels should be kept between 80 - 120 ppm.
    Keeping your pool clean and clear all season doesn't have to be hard. Visit my website at easyclearpool.com for lots of pool care and helpful tips for your swimming pool.

    Pool store told me to use ph down first? Alk 180, ph 7.8, chlor 8..what a mess new salt system pool.

      As your pH falls, your alkalinity should fall as well. PH down or muriatic acid should be a good start.

    • @jasonjanes3256
      @jasonjanes3256 2 роки тому +2

      Just a scoop of acid and leave the TA to naturally go down over time - 180 is not ideal but certainly not worth tons of chems and math to adjust UNLESS your like me and like to tinker around -

    • @jasonjanes3256
      @jasonjanes3256 2 роки тому +1

      of course they did - just a bit of acid and re-measure chems the next day -

    How long should you wait to swim after adding/balancing the alkalinity level with this muriatic acid?

    • @BlakeBuchanan382
      @BlakeBuchanan382 2 роки тому +4

      If you add a quart of acid you can basically swim instantly 2 quarts wait an hour anything over 2 quarts 6 hrs

    Do you have to dilute it? Also what is the app called I tried searching pool pal? If that’s correct and it didn’t come up

    • @easyclearpool
      @easyclearpool  2 роки тому

      No, you can add it directly and it is fine. The app is Pool Pal, but I am currently only finding it on Android and not Apple. Pool Doctor is another app as well that can help.

    After adding the acid, should I turn off my chlorine while pump runs? Or is it safe to have it still chlorine running??

    • @easyclearpool
      @easyclearpool  3 роки тому +4

      It is still safe for your chlorinator to continue running after adding the acid.

    You really should raise your pH up to about 8.0 and then add your acid. With a alkalinity at 180, you you have a fair distance to go before you’re down to 100. Raising your pH to only 7.6 Will not allow you to add enough acid to bring your alkalinity down that much it will take you a long time.
    Have you ever tried just raising your pH with aeration? You can raise pH without adding borax by airation.

      @Adam-hs4de 3 роки тому

      Ahhhh the joys and challenges of aeration! I add dry acid and keep pool open overnight to reduce aeration amount.

    My pH is normal but alkalinity is 180. Pool is very cloudy. I tries pH down and it didn’t work for my alkalinity level. Also my chlorine level is saying 0 even though I have tons of tabs in there. Help 😩

    • @easyclearpool
      @easyclearpool  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, your alkalinity and pH will lower at different rates and may just need a but more pH reducer. Your alkalinity isn't extremely out of range but could be reduced some. Have you tried adding some clarifier to clear it up? As for no chlorine readings, try and jump start it with shock to get the ball rolling if you haven't done that. I appreciate the comment! You will get there.

    • @cutie96
      @cutie96 3 роки тому +2

      To measure chlorine properly,try taking water sample deeper into the pool(since chlorine dissolves in upper layers)(flip/submerge some plastic bootle to take the sample...)...MA afterwards

    • @jasonjanes3256
      @jasonjanes3256 2 роки тому +1

      Water can actually reach a point where it can not hold certain levels of chemistry, "chlorine lock" - Just partially drain the pool halfway and then refill and then sanitize with a NON-Chlorine sanitizer - THEN slowly raise Chlorine back-up - Tablets can't solve Chlorine Lock -

    • @drdrew3
      @drdrew3 2 роки тому

      The tabs are 50% chlorine and 50% stabilizer (cyanuric acid). If you put in “tons of tabs” your stabilized level is probably sky high making chlorine ineffective. Get your water tested for CYA

      I am a new pool owner; first year opening it/ I noticed after shocking that it actually caused it to be cloudy. Flocculant worked for me- lots of vacuuming on waste and adding water also bc of it being on waste but at least the particles weren’t filtered through- it has cleared the cloudy and it’s finally straightened out. It was a last resort but worth it. Good luck.
