Thank you thank you! I called a repair man in January, four months ago, and it was $160 house call to clean the drain. He didn’t find much, but I was happy to have a working washing machine again. This morning I started a small load and am getting this error again! Instead of paying another $160 I am going to check it myself. I’m a single mom and don’t bring home that much. Thank you! I wasn’t sure where to start after clearing out the drain hose failed to solve the problem. I found a kid’s sock, plastic bead necklace, two dollar bills, countless mini hair bands, about $2 in change, a dozen lego pieces and a wad of hair. Before I got the trap out I had to catch well over a gallon of dirty water; I wasn’t expecting that much. Thanks again, you saved me a lot of time troubleshooting. I had no idea these had a trap.
Thank you SO MUCH!! We had called a repair company & they did not even open the back just said order drain pump-my husband followed your video & he found 6 masks stuck-after removal the washer was FIXED!!! We can not thank you enough !!!!!!!!!!
Not the same model exactly, but made me aware enough that there was a drain filter that even existed to help me quickly solve the same problem. Over 45 years old, never knew about a pump filter. Many thanks!
Had the same error code but was surprised my filter was clean and did some further checking. Found that the drain hose was clogged. This was located where the plastic holding bracket that bends the hose towards the tub. I had removed the bracket and tried to straighten the hose and was amazed that it broke off some large chunks of liquid detergent buildup inside the hose. I bought a new hose and re-routed the hose without using the same holding bracket. When I connected the hose to the washer I made sure the hose was straight with a slight angle downwards toward the drain tub. The end of the hose was bent 45 to 90 deg angle downward along with zip ties to keep everything in place. This will prevent any future clogs/buildup of detergent water just sitting in the hose. Working perfect.
Your experience is a great example of why the F9 E1 error code shows up. The error code is a long drain error, meaning it's taking too long for the washer to drain the water. If after 6 minutes of trying to drain the water out of the machine the water level pressure switch does not reset, the ACU ( main control board ) will shut the cycle off and show the F9 E1 error on the user interface display. Under normal circumstances the washer should completely drain within 2 minutes. Thank you for posting your experience. It will help others who might discover the filter is not dirty, but something else was delaying the tub from draining.
@@marttho53 Question I have for you is.. Do you know how to set the water level? Pressure switch has no screw driver turn settings. If you know how, please inform
OMG I thank God for YOU!!!!! I have Been dealing with my washing machine and these codes going on and off for about 4 months now. Thank you so much for this. I feel like a real man! FYI. For those having trouble loosening the filter, take the rubber handles of pliers between and use it to twist it. After turning about a quarter you can use your hands
Thank You! Couldn't find a repair company to come and look, so I found your video and we are now back in business. The next step was going out and buying a new washer at $800... Can't thank you enough for posting this!!
Thank you! We have had ours for 9 years and never cleaned that filter! I found 15 coins and some hair pony tail bands. After cleaning it out and assembling it back together it had no error and worked great. I will be checking that filter more often!
I genuinely appreciate this. With all the Covid-19 hysteria, the last thing I needed to lose was my ability to wash my wife, children, and my laundry. Followed your steps and it's working like a charm now. Thank you very much for posting this.
GREAT instructions. THANKS. I would tell EVERYONE, "ASSUME THE WASHER IS FULL OF WATER!". Needed a pan AND towels AND a shop vac. LOTS of dog hair in the trap. Works great now.
I appreciate you posting this. I completed the task of cleaning the filter quickly, and now that I feel confident about it, I'll be doing it more frequently.
I'll add my thank yous to this extremely helpful video. Between my son and myself, we managed to wrestle it away from the wall, get the back off (and back on) and clean out the filter. I was ready to find another washer. You saved us money and we have a sense of accomplishment. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Oh my good grief!!! I have been trying to troubleshoot the codes on our washing machine for the past couple of months. My farm friend told me about the filters a day ago, as she had similar issues a couple of years ago. She showed me on her washing machine, which, how convenient for her, happens to be in a nice spot on the front. Our machine, the whirlpool front loader, happens to be rather more labor intensive with filters hidden obscurely underneath, in the back, behind the panels. Fantastic. Thank you, Sir, so much for your detailed video!!!
Thank you, this worked like a charm and I was able to fix my washer. I wanted to add a couple things for folks who may be generally unacquainted with their washer, like I was before trying this. -First, the removal of the drain hose is sort of glossed over here, but you can take it off using pliers to cinch the spring together, slide the spring off, and then easily pull the hose off by hand. -Second, my washer had a LOT more water in it than is shown here, even though I'd shop-vac'd the standing water out of the machine before trying this. I recommend getting a VERY big pan, and also a shop vac in there if you can fit it, as you are unscrewing the filter cap, to avoid a minor flood. Thanks again!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I hope every task you do works seamlessly in perpetuity and you never lose your footing on ice. You are a kind and generous human for sharing with us 🥰
First, thanks for the video. It was easy to follow and fixed my problem. Now to explain my problem in a bit of detail. My problem was that I had the F9 E1 error and it would not reset after turning off the power and waiting many minutes. When I plugged it back in, the Door locked light was on and I was not able to drain or select any other cycles. I had a load of clothes sitting in water and a 10 day wait for a service technician. After reading the comments about how clogged everyone's filters were, I thought that maybe the error would reset after cleaning the filter, especially since my machine is many years old and I have never cleaned the filter. So, following your video, I cleaned the filter. It was not too dirty, actually. I then put it all back together and the error reset itself when I plugged it back in. Thanks again for making and posting the video.
Thank you for posting this - was thinking i would need to call a technician but decided to google it first and so glad i found you - i was able to handle this easily myself and get the washer working like a charm again! Appreciate it!
Followed step by step and I was shocked how easy this was. Turns out I had .35 and some bra pads, many fruit snacks wrappers that lodged themselves in drain on bottom. Thank you for your video. Took me 35 minutes from start to finish.
We have a Whirpool front-load washer, were getting error codes E03 and F08 (which aren't even listed in the manual!), and this solved the problem. Thanks!!
@@marttho53 There were five nickels, four pennies, a fair amount of long hair, and some unspecified goo in the filter. Not too bad considering we've had the washer for three years now. Quite a bit of water did drain out when the filter was unscrewed. I'm just very displeased that my machine's favorite error codes and "how to clean the filter" aren't covered in the manual.
@@chelsieanttiladotson8426 Yes, the engineering is not user friendly. Many complain about the difficulty of access (why not a front panel access?) and a very poorly written manual. I found all my info online but still had to guess how to remove the back panel. Others discovered how to access the pump from the bottom by tipping the washer on the side (very hard to do in my opinion). Glad you found some coins and other . . . stuff. :)
Thank you for the video. Washer been messing up for the last two weeks with them codes. Took the filter out and good gravy it was plugged. I've had this washer little over a year now and I too will check filter every six months to prevent this problem. Appreciate it.
Thank you for posting how-to and where to locate the filter. I saw a video of a different model on TIK TOK and know I need to do mine. I just didn't know where to look. A few repair people suggested to me that I actually empty that filter every 6 weeks for optimum performance and to help extend the life of the motor in the washer. (Every 4 if I had a larger household)
Thank you for sharing. I recently had to clean the filter again. I wasn't seeing the error code but there was water left in the tub after completing the cycle. The smell is what I noticed first. I shot another video, not yet edited, where I recommend a regular cleaning schedule.
4 even 6 weeks sounds like overkill. I think you can get the right cadence by seeing how clogged you are after 3 mos then adjust accordingly. This matters more or less depending on how much maneuvering room you have - if you have easy access and the time sure 6 weeks go for it.
You are a LIFESAVER! Thank you for sharing your experience! A few months ago my daughter and I looked for the filter and couldn’t find it. Manuals never even spoke of it whatsoever.
Thank you so much for the clear instructions. The only issue I had was unscrewing the drain cap. I ended up using pliers to turn it. My filter was full of lint, a bandaid and a sinus blister pack. 😅😅😅
Thank you for helping people out with the video. I have the exact same model and error. Now I can try to clean that out and see if it works. I've had mine 5 years, the error just started. Thank you again!
Man, thank you so much for posting this!!! It really helped a lot with our problem, we suspected something got clogged within the washer but didn't know how to fix it. Your video saved us from a professional coming over (especially with COVID-19 these days). I hope you have an amazing day, stay safe!
Thank you so much!! My washer works again! I found two toddler socks, a necklace, a miniature car track, and a nursing bra pad that I searched everywhere for months ago
I this video saved me so much money. Instead of calling a repair person I was able to do it myself. Seems like once a year I have to clean out that filter. No fun… my next washer will have front access to the filter! Thanks again!

Thank the lord for your video!!! I had to clean up a ton of water once I got that filter out but no repair call and my money is still in my pocket!! You rock!!
We went at least 4 years before cleaning the trap. Got the error code last night for the first time. Great video. Was real easy to clean out based on your video. Filled with mostly lint, a dollar bill, some coins, and a sock !!!
Thank you so much for posting this 💗. I have to call my home warranty service guy out almost every 6 months for this. It was getting to the point of wanting a newer model washer because every month's was getting excessive to keep calling him and being charged for a $75 service fee. Thanks again.
Thanks for the great video. Saved us a service call. Not sure why Whirlpool would not put a front access on this washer to make it easier to clean. But big thumbs up to you for posting this.
Thanks helpful, it worked. My complaint is Whirlpool sucks to design a a machine that it Requires this fix without easier access, it’s a clear repairmen delight.
Thank you for making this video. People should also check the rubber seal around the washing machines door. There’s small ports where water drains as well and they tend to clog.
As others have said, thank you for this video. I have no idea how people before the Internet or video age were able to maintain anything. Though you made this video 4 years from the time I viewed it, it’s like you made it just for me. I feel like I can now join the International Society of Dudes. 😄
Thanks so much for the easy to follow video. Just moved in and our washer was having this problem. Found four cloth masks, a nickel, a penny, and a toddler’s sock.

Hey Lindsey. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. And I’m honored to be your UA-cam dad. I’m sure he would be proud that his little girl fixed it herself. I know I am. ❤️
I can't thank you enough! I agree with many of the others below: Terrible design, and NO mention of it in the owners manual! I went to look for the filter and was really frustrated. It's like Whirlpool wants to ensure their appliance repair people stay in business. I will never buy another one of these washers, and I'm very annoyed at Whirlpool. But I am totally enamored with YOU! Thanks so much for helping us in such a meaningful, practical way.
Thanks man. It worked for me. In my case there was a foamy bra cup stuck in the filter from the previous owner. If she had big ones, there would be no need for fake foamy fillers and ultimately no filter issues. Big ones all the way.
Thank you for this. I am not handy your video helped me a lot. I took out the filter and found a bunch of smelly water, a popsicle stick, a metal hair clip, and some buildup. Hopefully it works better after a cleaning.
Thanks to you, I was able to fix my machine, and I really appreciate it! I was shocked to find 9 face masks and 1 reusable absorbent pad clogging the drain!
Thank you Sir. My washer has been in constant use for almost 5 years and the last week or so has been throwing this code. I have a professional coming to look at it Saturday but just stumbled across this video so going to try pulling the filter tonight to see if it fixes the issue. I appreciate the content. Stay tuned for updates.
@@marttho53 well, I'm pretty sure we found the problem. The filter was absolutely covered in dog hair from my Husky / German Shepherd. Oh, and there was a quarter in there also. running a test cycle now but feeling confident it'll have solved my issue. *fingers crossed*
fixed! working good as new once again after this very quick fix. Guess I'll have to add this on a regular maintenance schedule going forward. thank you
This was it for us as well! I found some drywall screws, paper, tweezers and a good amount of change in there! Working like a champ now! Good to note my screen/trap was so stuck in there I had to really pull on it to the point where the hand nut seperated from it and then I had to work that tray loose. Tip is to put these two back together before placing back in the pump housing.
I've been fighting the E1F9 error for a while now and TBH wasn't too excited about delving into appliance repair but the back came off easy enough and I was able to twist off the filter with only the mildest of single sylable profanity. I was hoping to find it jammed with lost Kruegerands or maybe a couple of wayward $50s but found only a half dozen bobby pins (who still uses bobby pins?), a penny ground down to the size of a dime, and some globs of unidentifiable lint. There really wasn't much in there but apparently it was enough to cause problems as I ran a cycle and it made it all the way through without an error code. Whatever you do unplug it before you start and you should be fine.
GREAT video. Saved me! I found 2 bra inserts, bracelet, pony tail holder. Was completely blocked! Easy to follow and honestly was not hard at all. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing how to do this! Our washer was basically out of commission without your help. We found all sorts of stuff in our strangled filter from a hair tie to three coins (one was a French franc and none of us have ever been to France!)
greatly appreciated, one suggestion for anyone who does this and has wee kids is to put a diaper down to catch any extra drips. more absorbent than a towel

Great video. Walked into the laundry room with the washing machine beeping and these two codes flashing. Actually nice that you can put a catch pan under clean out to catch water. My old one that you accessed through the front didn’t have any East way to catch the water.
I just want to really thank you for this video and a better version of this problem then the other videos on here! I just did this last night and followed your steps from the day before of watching this. You saved me a huge service call wait and probably a $200 service bill as well.
@@Priority57 I don't know, sorry.
OMG I thank God for YOU!!!!! I have Been dealing with my washing machine and these codes going on and off for about 4 months now. I refused To call the service people and decided to just shut the washing machine off and restart. It would always act up right before the spin cycle. Not sure why it took me this long to find your video but you are definitely an Angel sent by God. This video helped me save tons of money. May the great Lord bless you and add much favor to your life and your family. God bless you and THANK YOU!!!!!
Glad my video helped. Blessings!
Thank you for this!
Have been getting this error with EVERY load last few days- This makes total sense. Video shows exactly what to do- how to address- makes me feel like EVEN I can handle this! 👏👏👏we shall see!
Let us know how it goes!!
Thank you so much for posting this video! I might have eventually found the filter, but your video will have helped me make short work of it. Not to mention the savings in repair costs. I am so glad that there are kindhearted souls like yourself out there helping everyday people with DIY repairs. I wish you all the best!
Happy to do my small part!
Great video! I want to compliment you on your hair! It’s the same color as mine! And I can fix my washer now, with no repair bill! Thank you so much!!!
This video saved us so much money calling a Plumber! I encouraged my husband who is not that handy to watch this video because it was a simple fix and it worked!!! It was so much stuff clogging the filter!! Thank you so much!
You are welcome. Happy to help.
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!! I WATCHED YOUR SHORT CONCISE VIDEO AND WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE YOUR REAPAIR. I'M A 46 YEAR OLD MOM AND WAS ABLE TO EXECUTE THIS REPAIR ALONE AND SUCCESSFULLY. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! YOU SAVED ME SO MUCH MONEY, HARDSHIP AND TIME!!!! GRATEFULLY! JENNIFER L.
Happy to help. Way to go!
I was losing my mind! Thank you so much for posting this. I was on the verge of tears when we found your video. 30 minutes later and the sweet sound of a happy washer fills my laundry room. You rock!
Funny. We both have same issue at the same time and find this video.
Christi Rodriguez Happy to help!
Thank you so much! Your video was so helpful and easy to fix my washer with the help of my daughter.
Thank you so much for this. I feel like a real man! FYI. For those having trouble loosening the filter, take the rubber handles of pliers between and use it to twist it. After turning about a quarter you can use your hands
Glad the video helped and thanks for the advice!
Thank You! Couldn't find a repair company to come and look, so I found your video and we are now back in business. The next step was going out and buying a new washer at $800... Can't thank you enough for posting this!!
Glad to help!
Thank you! We have had ours for 9 years and never cleaned that filter! I found 15 coins and some hair pony tail bands. After cleaning it out and assembling it back together it had no error and worked great. I will be checking that filter more often!
Congratulations!
I genuinely appreciate this. With all the Covid-19 hysteria, the last thing I needed to lose was my ability to wash my wife, children, and my laundry. Followed your steps and it's working like a charm now. Thank you very much for posting this.
It happened to me during this hysteria! Time to go fix it.
If you have a pressure washer, you’d at least have the kids and the Mrs. covered even with a protracted washer outage.
GREAT instructions. THANKS. I would tell EVERYONE, "ASSUME THE WASHER IS FULL OF WATER!". Needed a pan AND towels AND a shop vac. LOTS of dog hair in the trap. Works great now.
Thank you, sir! My husband and I were able to fix our washer tonight without issue because of your video. Much appreciated!!!!
Excellent!
I appreciate you posting this. I completed the task of cleaning the filter quickly, and now that I feel confident about it, I'll be doing it more frequently.
That’s great! We have a large family so I clean mine every 6 months.
So happy for you and your son! Congratulations on a job well done.
Common view that the engineering team was having a bad day when they designed the rear access. Glad the video helped.
Hey Craig! Great recommendations! Thank you!
Awesome video !!!
Easy fix !!!
Thanks for the additional tips. :} And watch out when you first remove the filter: our kid's sock made a splash!
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I hope every task you do works seamlessly in perpetuity and you never lose your footing on ice. You are a kind and generous human for sharing with us 🥰
@@AlyAbabua thank you for the kind words.
Thanks for the detailed comment. This will help others that feel ‘stuck’ and need a little encouragement to keep trying.
Thank you for the simple video. I was getting ready to destroy my washer with a sledgehammer. You saved my washer and the cost of a new one
Thank you for posting this - was thinking i would need to call a technician but decided to google it first and so glad i found you - i was able to handle this easily myself and get the washer working like a charm again! Appreciate it!
You are welcome!
Followed step by step and I was shocked how easy this was. Turns out I had .35 and some bra pads, many fruit snacks wrappers that lodged themselves in drain on bottom. Thank you for your video. Took me 35 minutes from start to finish.
You’re welcome!
We have a Whirpool front-load washer, were getting error codes E03 and F08 (which aren't even listed in the manual!), and this solved the problem. Thanks!!
Happy to hear you are up and running again! Error Code F8 F3 means that there is excess water in the washer. Was the pump filter dirty?
Glad you found some coins and other . . . stuff. :)
This video was exactly what I was looking for (and the exact washer model # too). Hello from Wisconsin! Thank you for the video. Much appreciated.
Hello from East Tennessee. Glad the video helped!!
Grooooss. Thanks. You just saved me the cost of a new washing machine. Good on you, mate.
Glad to help. Visited your channel. Love the squirrel mama and kitten video!
@@marttho53 It worked! I pulled a baby sock, clumps of material, two nails and $1.37 in change out of the filter.
We had the same experience. Glad the video helped.
Can’t thank you enough for posting this video. My husband and I are not the best at DIY repairs but this one was easy thanks to you!
Glad to help.
Thank you so much for the clear instructions. The only issue I had was unscrewing the drain cap. I ended up using pliers to turn it. My filter was full of lint, a bandaid and a sinus blister pack. 😅😅😅
Congratulations! Yes, sometimes the cap can be quite hard to unscrew. And it's not in the most easy to reach place.
You found a wealth of goodies! Glad to help.
I this video saved me so much money. Instead of calling a repair person I was able to do it myself. Seems like once a year I have to clean out that filter. No fun… my next washer will have front access to the filter! Thanks again!
Hey Ava. You are welcome. Our next washer will have front access also! 😉
Holy crap! That was a lot of crap in my filter. I followed your directions -- tons of clogging in the hose and in the pump filter, including the color-fast sheets that we will not be using anymore! You da man! And, you saved me big bucks on a house call from the service-man.
Glad it helped!
Just did this. THANK YOU. You saved my family a week of misery waiting for the appliance guys to come take me for a ride.
Just fixed my washer with your help. Huge help with 4 kids & a ton of laundry. Thank you!!!
Fantastic!
This is one of the most helpful videos on UA-cam. I suspect my repair person would have charged me for a new pump. Thank you!
Glad to help!
Your video fixed our problem quickly with ZERO expense!! The video was clear, short and exactly what we needed. Thank you very much!!
Amazing video. Quick and to the point w good visual and audio quality. Saved me at least a cpl hundred dollars if not a thousand! Thanx for sharing
I’m glad it helped you and saved $$$
This was perfect, thank you. I found my clog. 3 small socks, a necklace and a popsicle stick. Ah, life with children.
Steven Richardson Awesome! We found some “interesting” items as well. 🤣
Im about to pop mine open after two years with kids lol a little worried to see what I find.
I also had a popsicle stick!
So contrary to popular belief, it was, in fact, the washing machine that ate the socks and not the dryer 🤔
I got some socks and enough change for a coffee
Thank the lord for your video!!! I had to clean up a ton of water once I got that filter out but no repair call and my money is still in my pocket!! You rock!!
Paula O Glad to help.
We went at least 4 years before cleaning the trap. Got the error code last night for the first time.
Great video. Was real easy to clean out based on your video. Filled with mostly lint, a dollar bill, some coins, and a sock !!!
Nice - getting paid to do the work! :) Glad it was helpful.
Thank you so much for posting this 💗. I have to call my home warranty service guy out almost every 6 months for this. It was getting to the point of wanting a newer model washer because every month's was getting excessive to keep calling him and being charged for a $75 service fee. Thanks again.
You are welcome!
Thanks for the great video. Saved us a service call. Not sure why Whirlpool would not put a front access on this washer to make it easier to clean. But big thumbs up to you for posting this.
Thank you so much for this walk through! As someone who never took apart a washer before, this was super helpful and I was able to fix the error.
Happy to help!
Thanks helpful, it worked. My complaint is Whirlpool sucks to design a a machine that it Requires this fix without easier access, it’s a clear repairmen delight.
Common complaint Robert. Was not designed for the DIYer.
Ha! Welcome to the secret society of Dudes and Dudettes😂
Thanks so much for the easy to follow video. Just moved in and our washer was having this problem. Found four cloth masks, a nickel, a penny, and a toddler’s sock.
You are welcome! That was quite a haul out of that filter. No wonder it gave you an error code!
Thank you so much!! We had this exact issue tonight, and it was an easy fix thanks to your video!
Thank you so much for this! My dad died a few years ago...and this is something I would have called him about. Imma just gonna call you my UA-cam dad today!! I'm so proud of myself for fixing it myself!
Hey Lindsey. I’m sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. And I’m honored to be your UA-cam dad. I’m sure he would be proud that his little girl fixed it herself. I know I am. ❤️
I’ve watched over an hour of videos before finding w washer whose design was similar to yours. Thank you so much for posting this video!
My wife and I wanted to thank you for this video!! It completely solved our issue! You the man!
You are welcome. Glad to help!
You're welcome!
This fix worked perfectly! Thanks so much for showing me how to correct this problem. I was amazed at how much junk was in the strainer.
You’re welcome!
Holy cow! That’s a lot of stuff in the filter. Glad to help!!
Thanks bud! Got it fixed in about half an hour and we are back in business.
That’s a long time to have this machine without experiencing the error code. Congratulations! Looking forward to the update.
Guess I'll have to add this on a regular maintenance schedule going forward.
thank you
@@Jedi054 Those are the exact same things that were plugging ours...dog hair and a quarter, lol!
Happy everything is back together. And you are slightly richer with all the money found!
Sorry no gold but maybe you can resell the bobby pins on eBay 😉
Thank you! Top of my feature list for our next washer: an easily accessible pump filter! What a terrible design.
Yep. A shared sentiment. Our family doesn't like the machine for a few other reasons as well.
I have the same washer and dryer. I bought them about 14 months ago and I just got this code last night. Thanks for saving me some money.
GREAT video. Saved me! I found 2 bra inserts, bracelet, pony tail holder. Was completely blocked! Easy to follow and honestly was not hard at all. Thank you!
You’re welcome CB. Glad to help.
Thank you so much Sir, For 2 days I am struggling with this and your video is very helpful. I am going to fix it now.
Thank you so much! You saved us the money of having to call the repair company!

Way to go Kim! Its not always easy to impress dad!
Finally a smart guy who share his skills,,, thanks my friend my machine is back
Thank you for sharing how to do this! Our washer was basically out of commission without your help. We found all sorts of stuff in our strangled filter from a hair tie to three coins (one was a French franc and none of us have ever been to France!)
You are welcome. Funny about the mystery coin! One day I should make a list of all the odd, cool, and funny things people find in their filters!
greatly appreciated, one suggestion for anyone who does this and has wee kids is to put a diaper down to catch any extra drips. more absorbent than a towel

Our filter was clogged really bad. Cleaned it out completely and threw compartment the filter sits in. Put it back together. Fired it up and it works like it's new again. Thanks again
