@GTRSv I agree, but a lot of that is down to the R32's 4WD(?) system as well as more engine weight is over one set of wheels. Those give it a large advantage of the line. The Ferrari driver may have been just as good, but it was much harder for him not spin.

AWD, on the r32 is not able to be used in low or high (4wheeldrive is available in low or high) and 4wd is mainly available on SUV's and trucks. AWD, on many cars cannot be turned off and does not have basically two differnet drivetrains where on a truck, 4WD, you can have it off and be using RWD, AWD you cant do this, and the you enable 4wd and both axles will now be pulling the truck.

Its worth it. Would be a quick Golf AWD with this engine

The one thing I still wonder is how well the guy pushing the Ferrari knew how to shift and how well he could accelerate it, and the converse with the Golf operator. Strap a twin turbo on a 24V VR6 GTI or especially an AWD R32, and you transform these already fairly quick cars into something VERY sick and formidable!
Agreed, but regardless what the driver of the Ferrari does, it will not be able to get traction while applying max power like the awd R32. The R32 will understeer and plow in the corners which sucks, but the AWD helps it get off the line with the pedal floored, no concern about tire spin (after 1/6th a spin/rotation, Haldex sends power to the rear wheels, or under high torque load (accelerating)). The R32 will also plow through snow though. Not even VW fan, just AWD in general.
Well Scuderia VS SLR. The 0-60 and 1.4 mile times are so close (almost the same) that it comes down to the driver. They were extremely close in three different tests. Top speed goes to SLR with 334 vs 317. Here is a drag race, it's not a Scuderia and it means nothing not on a track. But you got SLR, Audi R8, F340, and even an LP560. It doesn't matter how well he drives, the tuned up Golf is always going to win. The camera is closer to the Golf so it should actually appear slightly behind at this angle if they were level. Instead it appears clearly ahead. Also the Golf is only 20cms shorter and starts half a second earlier.

go to an area like BC where the ground is often uneven. drive around in a ferrari and a golf... then see which one needs a new bumper because it's "on top"

The thing is though, when are you ever gonna get a chance to do that when driving around the streets? Nope, bottom light was on for a good half a second before the R32 even moved. He was actually pretty late, with a .435 r/t and the Ferrari was even worse with a 1.052.

Maybe at laguna seca, but not here on the 1/4 mile. The awd and twin turbos will help the R32 off the line, and i'm pretty sure the ferrari (even with a good driver) would no be able to catch up. Both nice car, just meant for different things.
Lets take this test to the full mile circuit and see who wins. I love how people max out their cars to get to 0-100 in like 6 seconds but then after that it's all down hill

This actual golf was built by HGP in germany and has legendary status. check this video out, this car came to england in 2005 and beat everything it came up against including the BMW M3 in this link. It clock 0-60 in 2.88 seconds and will smash any Ferrari!!

Well... any affodable performance car can be built to run crazy 1/4 miles. But they will never have the pedigree of an exotic. Don't get me wrong I am not dissing the R32 or any other tuner car out there, cause I myself had 2 WRX's and now drive a MS3. A lot of my friends like popular tuner cars too but one simply can't deny the pure prestige of an exotic ride. As if anyone would pick a R32 over a Ferrari if they had the choice to pick 1.

It wouldn't make a blind bit of difference to be honest. Twin turbo R32 with 4 wheel drive pushing a good 4 possibly 500BHP vs. a (more than likely) stock Ferrari 360?! It never stood a chance unfortunately. It was owned from the go!
When I was a kid my father boughr an VW Mk4 1.9 TDI.When watching this video,I thought I would beat Ferraris.Good times and good dreams. Now cars have crazy horsepower and it got to the poing being boring.Useless cars,nothing else.Good for straight,but nowhere else. Stock R32 is good to drive,handling is the key to car,not the quickest straight line.
And by the way, on of the most iconic and greatest supercars to date, the McLaren F1, was powered by a V12 from BMW, all motor. Please don't sell me your crap that Ferrari is the ultimate car company!

Some of these Golfs easily push out more power than Ferrari's so I'm not surprised it won and the Ferrari had a poor start. But it's just physics, AWD = more weight and more friction.
the strong point is not the engine power, a shelby gt has more and is way cheaper, it's the overall balance and precision, on a corner the golf would go straight in the tyres if it tried to follow the ferrari
@UltraFighter18 If you take a similar car, 1 with AWD and 1 with 2WD the 2WD will be a fraction quicker. The reason is that if you measure the power at the wheel on both cars the AWD will have less power than the 2WD purely because the AWD system "drains" more power so to speak. It's not an opinion, it's a mechanical fact. A typical example is the Ford Cosworth, the 2WD is always favoured.......now that example would only apply to a vehicle with the same power at the fly.

just because its awd doesnt mean it has more potential. However, if cornering in snow, then ok. But on a track, a ferrari will take it easily. Gotta factor in balance, powerband, and tire grip. The ferrari is just a better platform.

@luminaeus AWD usually bogs down at launch, something to do with the mass of the drivetrain being heavier since your driving all four wheels

How much extra power and torque is that twinturbo giving? A standard R32 would have struggled even with the better start.

you guys are all talking about a driver mod but you dont know what kind of numbers that TT R32 is putting down. the HPA r32 does 0-60 in 3.2

I'm into that as well, I've been modifying Skylines for the past 10 years thanks. I don't own and wouldn't want a Ferrari over any Skyline I've built and owned, but seriously, between a Golf (modified or not) and any Ferrari there's no comparison IMO.
in a straight line, and probably ride like an ox cart. i bet the weight distribution is just superb.

@JudaPante 4WD is not good to have in a dragrace because it wastes abit of power to the frontwheels witch only spin because the weight moves back as the car start to move.
Look carefully at the traffic light. it seems pretty obvious that there a dealy between the left (VW) and the right (Ferrari).
I dunno, look at 0:58, there's no way they're lined up. Also I think the Ferrari driver did ok-ish, maybe 60mph in 4.5 secs, it's just the golf has 4wd, is lighter and has more power.

@Sido1884 Sorry, no, you're right, I mistook the golf r32. When I looked up videos I looked for 'W12' golf with like 650 bhp, different cars.

the question is... when your driving down the road doing the speed limit, which would you rather be in, just a little golf or a Ferarri? thats what your gonna be using it for most of the time anyway, im sticking to the Ferrari. looks a million times better

Not saying that the Golf isnt quick and being 4WD etc but that 1/4 time of 4.85 cant be right!! The record for a drag car is 7.824 - according to Wikipedia
its so funny to read all these complaints from teenagers insulting and judge the driver of this ferrari in the video. they are simply trying to make it sound like they should actually be the owner of the car. jealousy. not to mention those saying the ferrari car is worthless etc. all this while the driver and his friends had a great time that day. he probably had a beer too much when he did the race with the driver and his volkswagen, probably his friend too anyway and he too had a great time

this is awesome, golf's are awesome simple cars heh.. the ferrari driver started late but yet i think the r32 would have won anyway.. hell of a car... i love ferrari and vw's this is splendid :D and obviously the ferrari on high gears would PWN the little golf still is a badass car

don't forget they don't race each other they race the clock
just because its awd doesnt mean it has more potential. However, if cornering in snow, then ok. But on a track, a ferrari will take it easily. Gotta factor in balance, powerband, and tire grip. The ferrari is just a better platform.
