I was in the Lowfields Road, just a kid of fifteen with some friends of me Dad. I remember when the ref blew for full time, Bremner was on the ball about twenty yards out from Stepney's goalmouth, trying to dribble around Greenhoff. At the sound of the whistle everyone paused, then Bremner just shrugged and carried on playing. This galvanised the Man U defenders back into action, and they all played on for another half minute.
Because... football. Like lads in the street, and it's getting dark, and Mum calls you in for your tea.
    Yeah yeah. In a minute...
    Never give up.
    Billy Bremner.

I was I2/3 years old and boy did I love this team and “The Doc”, just up from the second division playing really great attacking football with two great wingers... I was going to almost every game home and away in them days. I dunno kids ticket prices then were a lot less than a quid.

There should be a documentary about how players celebrate goals throughout the years. The 70's seems to be about the one arm in the air while running or two straight arms in the air whilst jumping one time celebration. Things we never or rarely see today.

    • @Underhills
      @Underhills 4 роки тому

@Iain Botham There's so much to read from the way players celebrate goals. The double gunshot from hip level is saying "I nailed it!", or the Brazilian thumb sucking telling everyone "this is my playground".

Great match this. Our first season back in Div.1 and we did the league double over Leeds, who were still a force to be reckoned with, even though their stars were aging. I noted the pitch side hoarding saying Man Size Jobs In Mining at 1:05. Ten years later, they were all gone and a great industry was dead.

Good watch. Lesson in trying to take the net off when a chip would do. Good to see Steve Coppell causing trouble. Most underrated player England or United ever had. Walk in to the team today with a big bucks pay packet.

Coppell was a fantastic player, he's almost always the standout player in United clips from this era. Well him or Hill on the other wing. Wingers make good teams great!

You are so right, Coppell one of my 3 all time favourites from watching MUFC
Completely underrated, genius on the wing, he could beat players with his speed and trickery, cross different types of balls, brilant passed and my he had a great shot and an eye for goal.

I think this was the first time I ever watched a Man Utd and the reason I supported them. I was five at the time and remember watching a game on telly with my older brother who was a leeds fan. To annoy him I decided to support United. This must have been that game. Been a United fan for forty five years ever since that day!! 😀

Last years of great Leeds team not helped by selling 2 top players to your rivals. McKenzie a mercurial player but he & Bowles I'd stick in the England team. Big Jack should have been Leeds manager & that Man Utd team would have vied for the title with Liverpool & won some but oh no the Doc got out his thermometer & went, Sexton stifled that team with hard defenders. Crying shame & I'm a Leeds fan!

As for comments of leeds took over old Trafford in 2010- so what in these sanitised days of escorts/segregation and jail for swearing you sold a large allocation of tickets....well done.Boro are bringing around 12,000 to the league cup game next week, means nothing today....

@A A Leeds took more in 1979 when Connor scored just short of 57,500 that day all the scoreboard and a 3rd of the side when flynn got the winner the attendance was 45,000 plus because of bad weather. Best day at ER was 1980 Man U outside chance of title last game of season Man U had all the lowfields and half of the south stand aggro before during and after for hours, Happy days 😉

Leeds quite literally took over OT in 82? Leeds didn't play at OT in 82 - they came on Wed 30 Sep 81 (bringing very few fans as I remember) and were relegated at the end of that season.

Is it just me or is it the lack of quality of leeds goalkeepers during the best era of leeds players. Im an avid leeds fan but never understood why they never really had a decent shot stopper we wouldve won so much more.

Yes im not a Leeds fan but i still believe the Leeds 2 to 11 under Revie was the best English outfield 10 in my 49 years watching football but the lack of a great keeper certainly cost them the 1970 cup final
